brentwood home inspections: Photo of the Day... - 08/04/09 06:56 AM
Good home inspectors will use all their senses while inspecting a property. The other day, while inspecting a more "experienced" property in Brentwood, I could feel that the master bath area had a noticeable slope. Mental note to self - something is definitely amiss under the house.
Needless to say,

brentwood home inspections: My 2¢'s Worth - Some Things Just Don't Register - 06/20/09 05:01 PM
Earlier in the day I wrote a post about about rehabbed properties and where there are areas where the contractors will skimp, and pass less than desirable workmanship or practices on to the unsuspecting public just because the public normally doesn't know any better.
Although crawl spaces need to be vented,

brentwood home inspections: I Don't Want to Hear It - It Will 'Kill the Deal'... - 04/02/09 06:54 AM
Every now and then I get a call from a mortgage company to go out and re-evaluate an issue that that an appraiser found while doing a re-fi. Yesterday was one of those days. It seems that because of the 'mortgage meltdown' lenders are scrutinizing issues that were not so

brentwood home inspections: A Job in the Hand is Worth More Than He Who Hesitates... - 02/26/09 04:43 AM
Okay! So I blended two old adages. Today, we have blended families, blended drinks, so why not blend adages? Sometimes when you can't find what you need, one needs to be creative and think out-of-the-box. Who knows, I just might start a new fad or a new quote. Blended adages!!

brentwood home inspections: Christmas Is Over, But the Eye Candy Isn't... - 12/27/08 09:08 AM
Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I really enjoy driving around the neighborhoods looking at all the eye candy. The brightly lit houses, dazzling colors, can bring out the kid in anyone. Even though Christmas has passed, I still enjoy going around and looking at the Christmas lights in

brentwood home inspections: Perfect in Every Way... - 12/21/08 05:32 AM
We home inspectors seem to get a bum wrap. We often get rebuked as being too picky, picky, picky and that we are constantly finding fault with stuff (real technical term here), making work much harder for real estate agents. Well, we ain't ALL that picky, there a few houses that

brentwood home inspections: A Little Common Sense Goes a Long Way... - 10/24/08 06:57 PM
Older properties in Franklin, TN can pose challenges to any home inspector in this area. However; with a little common sense, costly repairs can be avoided while rehabbing, especially during the painting process. There is no real good way to remove paint from a contaminated outlet like this once it is

In our hurry up, get it done quick society, it is not uncommon to see "tradesmen" take shortcuts when building our new houses. Generally speaking, if something does not look right, it typically isn't. While inspecting a new construction house in Nashville, TN I ran across a wooden block by a

brentwood home inspections: If Walls Could Talk... - 10/14/08 04:12 AM
I like to inspect older experienced houses. They have been around for awhile, and if walls could talk, I am sure that they would have a lot of interesting tales to tell. Tales like how this garage lighting system came about. Were the lights something that the neighbor was throwing away

brentwood home inspections: Photo of the Day... - 10/09/08 04:39 AM
Why is it that unhandy home owners or other wanna be tradesmen think that they are electricians? With so many self help videos and home improvement books on the market showing the correct way to do things, invariably, I run into impromptu wiring methods that are down right dangerous. The wiring

brentwood home inspections: Pawning Off Crap... - 10/08/08 07:34 PM
I have written several articles on the dangers of flexible plastic ducting being used as dryer venting. Although this material has been banned for years for this application, I still run across it from time to time, especially in older properties where the dryer system has been in place for decades.
