franklin tn: (not so) Wordless Wednesday ~ Digging Up the Past... - 03/31/10 05:35 AM
Digging up the past...     In domestic disputes, it is not unusual for one party, who has a memory longer than an elephant, to start digging up the past. 10 years ago at 0822, you... Stuff like this is counter productive and accomplishes nothing.      Sometimes it is okay to dig up the past. While inspecting a property in Franklin, TN that used to be one of the battle fields in the the Battle of Franklin, my eye caught a faint glitter of something metallic. Doing a little probing, I was able to dig up some of the past.      To the … (27 comments)

franklin tn: 3 Tips for Better Holiday Pictures... - 12/19/09 07:17 AM
3 Tips for better Holiday pictures...Tis the season to take Holiday pictures and share them with your ActiveRain friends and family. Here are a few tips that I have learned over my 30 years behind the lens to have you shooting like the pro you knew you were.  #1 - Use manual settings on your D-SLR. I prefer to use Aperture Priority settings. Set the aperture to the maximum f-stop (smallest number) you have. Depending upon the lens this will generally be f 5.4 or f 4.5. This will open the iris to allow maximum light into the camera sensor. Using … (125 comments)

franklin tn: Photo Tips - Framing Your Subject... - 11/10/09 05:13 AM
Photo tips - Framing your subject... One of the easiest and most often overlooked techniques in photography is framing your subject. While comparing photos from several photographers on a video that is being done for the Cool Springs Chamber, many took a photo similar to this one of Aspen Brook Center.

Three feet to the left was a small tree. I used the tree to frame my subject and provide a total different result.

Framing your subject is a technique that can be used on people, places, and buildings. Take a moment to stop, look and think before … (24 comments)

franklin tn: Friday's Fotos... - 11/06/09 04:22 AM
The Cool Springs area of Franklin, TN, is an area that has grown rapidly over the past few years. Not too long ago, it was a wide spot in the road off I-65. An exit to get gas or change a tire on your way to Nashville. The tree filled hills, and farms that dotted this area have been replaced by homes and commerce. A little known reprise in the daily rush, is this place on Carothers Pkwy. A place often overlooked as folks rush to and fro☺☺☺

(not so) Wordless Wednesday ~ Downtown Franklin, TNDowntown Franklin, TN is steeped in history, tradition, and a unique blend of old and new. Is it any wonder that this quaint town was named one of the top 10 Best US neighborhoods by the American Planning Association? Downtown Franklin, TN is Tennessee's first neighborhood to get this designation.I will be doing a video blog on Downtown Franklin, TN later this week. This picture was a screen shot of some footage I took earlier this morning. Now maybe you understand why Hollywood wets the streets in night shots. Better reflected light.

franklin tn: Put a Cork in it... - 03/13/09 07:41 AM
While inspecting an experienced property in the Franklin, TN area the other day, I came across something that Charles, Buell, a fellow ASHI inspector and west coast blogger touched on in one of his posts about gas leaks in crawl spaces. However; there are potential problems with gas lines that most folks don't even think twice about, and that is capping abandoned gas lines. As Yoda would say,"A valve alone does not, a gas line safe make." is true. Gas valves are for the safety of you or personnel working on gas appliances as a quick convenient way to interrupt the … (11 comments)

franklin tn: Photo of the Day - Ouch! I Know that Hurt... - 03/13/09 06:17 AM
While inspecting an experienced property in the Franklin, TN area yesterday, I came across something that I do not recall ever seeing in all my years in this business. I know that this had to hurt this poor fellow... My question is do they make prosthetic tails? Steven Smith, a blogging friend of mine from the northwest section of the country has a virtural assistant called Nutsy the squirrel. Hey Nutsy... Check with some of your kinfolk down this way to see if they left something behind... If they did, I know where it is... Wishing all my fellow drips and … (9 comments)

franklin tn: Some Shortcuts Can Be Safety Hazards or Downright Deadly... - 02/15/09 07:05 PM
Remember when we were kids and often took a shortcut through the neighbors yard to get somewhere? Sometimes we would get in trouble for doing it especially if we were not careful and stepped Mrs. Jones' flower bed. However some shortcuts can be safety hazards or down right deadly. While inspecting a property in the Franklin, TN area, I came across a rather unusual situation. As part of our test for the furnace, we are required to throw the electrical shut-off on the furnace/air handling unit to ensure that in the event of an emergency or while the unit is being … (5 comments)

franklin tn: Downtown Franklin, TN - Pretty as a Picture... - 11/29/08 09:40 AM
The city of Franklin, TN was founded in 1799 and was named after Benjamin Franklin. Long the county seat of Williamson County TN, Franklin, TN is richly steeped in history and tradition. What I like about this town is that, today, it is a unique blend of the old and the new. The old downtown section, is much like it was at the turn of the century. One can walk down the sidewalks and browse in the stores along Main Street and feel like you have stepped back in time. I especially like this time of the year when the city … (14 comments)
