fridays fotos: Friday's Fotos ~ 03.02.12... - 03/02/12 03:04 AM
Friday's Fotos... Life is tough when you are a beach bum. You walk from one side of the island to watch the sun rise, have a few 'Ritas, cop some rays and then walk to the other side and watch the sun set. You know, it is really exhausting pushing down the shutter release. I reckon I'll just take it easy today and not over exert myself. Chow! Y'all have a great Friday. I will... Fridays Photos... Wow! Friday already? Where does the time go? Yesterday, was one of those days where I kicked back a little and played hookey from work. Tennessee, with its abundant streams and forests is truly a remarkable place to live, work and play. A friend of mine has this place about an hour out of town and I have a standing invitation to, "Come out and 'set' a spell". I did. Kinda nice to soak the tired puppies in the cool clear water and have the cobwebs washed away as well...

Friday's Fotos... Yesterday was one of those rare, picture perfect days for this time of the year here in the middle Tennessee area. On the way out to a job in the Spring Hill, TN area, I once again eyeballed this old barn next to the defunct Saturn plant. Every time I would go by, I would look, study, and tell myself, "One of these days..." Yesterday was that day. Bright warm sun, cobalt blue skies, contrasting colors; what more could a shutter bug ask for? I'm not sure whether it was the texture of the faded, peeling paint or the

Friday's Photos...What I find interesting is how we look upon and perceive an object. We can all look at the same objects and see them totally different. But then, that is what makes the human race to the finish line so interesting. Our colors, tastes, opinions, viewpoints and how we see the ordinary we encounter. I often get envious, when I gaze upon the artistic works of others and wish I could be more so. I reckon we all have our talents. Walking through the entrance of the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, I had to stop and take this shot.

fridays fotos: Friday's Fotos ~ Up a Lazy River... - 06/10/11 06:09 AM
Friday's Fotos ~ Up a Lazy River... Can you believe it? It's finally Friday. After last week's short week, activities and the busy schedule made this week seem even shorter. Time is really fun when you are on the fly. Kinda makes it go by quicker too. Needless to say, the Nation has been in the grips of an unusually hot spell for this time of the year. Seems like the dog days of summer have arrived and summer didn't get the message that it is supposed to be here. Strange weather. If you don't have to work, do like I

Friday's Fotos... There is something nostalgic about seeing old Jukeboxes that takes me for a drive down memory lane in my red '64-1/2 Mustang and cruising the drive-in's with my buds. Simpler days, when we would hang out, order cherry cokes, burgers and fries and listen to the thumping sounds booming from the corner of the joint. There was something about the glowing, colorful lights, the stacks of 45's, the highly polished chrome, even the buttons that beckoned you to get your 1 play for a dime, 3 plays for a quarter and 7 plays for a half dollar. Today, these

Friday's Fotos... There is something about a wind mill that stirs thoughts, feelings and emotions of early life in the Prairies. Silently standing as the lone sentinel; sill, ever faithfully guarding his post today just as he did eons ago, he scans the horizon, watching, ever watching. To me, these lone, forgotten, sentry's are as much a part of Americana as Grandma, base ball and apple pie. Once dotting the landscape by the thousands; now, they are few and far between. If only they could talk, what stories they could tell of the life, love and the hardships the early pioneers

Friday's Photos…The photo pictured below is nothing new. I posted a similar photo about a year or so ago when I returned from a seminar in Vegas where I had the opportunity to meet fellow Rainers - Robert (Vegas Bob) A.Swetz and John Novak. If you look closely, there are three things unique about this picture. The first thing you may notice is the lack of traffic along the Vegas Strip. Yes, the old shutterbug was up at the "whee" hours of the morn, gear in tow, dazed and totally confused, wandering somewhere behind the pixels as I am prone to

fridays fotos: Friday's Fotos ~ Early Songs of Spring... - 02/18/11 06:20 AM
Friday's Fotos ~ Early Songs of Spring...I'm not one to wish my life away but I'm counting the days to when I can say "BUH-Bye" to Old Man Winter for awhile. The unusually warm days we have been treated to here in the middle Tennessee area has me thinking about the first harbingers of spring - Crocus and Daffodils. I am already starting to see their green heads starting to break through the soil as they begin to wake from their long winter's slumber. Soon, they will adorn their velvet gowns and perform their magical ballet as they bow and dance

fridays fotos: Friday's Fotos ~ A Trip to the Photo Shop... - 01/07/11 06:15 AM
Friday's Fotos ~ A Trip to the Photo Shop...After a hard day a work, I often like to take a stroll through the aisles of the local Photo Shop. While there, there is no telling what flights of fancy, lampoons or wild stuff will jump off the canvas. I say this, because before the invention of television, folks entertained themselves. They read, often to each other, learned/played instruments, painted - they increased their brain power by keeping it active. Today, folks want to be entertained. They sit like a bump in the Barca Lounger, mash buttons on the remote, and partake

Friday's Fotos...Last weekend, the Nashville Pond Society had their annual Parade of Pond tour. The route took folks on a tour of ornamental ponds that showed a range of sizes, shapes, property values and settings. Some were owner designed while others were designed by professional landscapers located in the area. There is nothing better than listening to the sound of rustling water, mindlessly watch the koi swim; as you chill while sipping your favorite beverage. A-h-h-h-h.... fridays fotos: Friday's Fotos ~ Shooting Butterflies... - 08/27/10 07:15 AM
Friday's Fotos ~ Shooting Butterflies... What's there not to like about flowers - flying or otherwise? At the end of a hard day, it is relaxing to grab "ole Faithful", go out in the back and shoot butterflies, birds, flowers and what else that happens to wander within range of my viewfinder. There is a knack and a technique for shooting butterflies. You don't have to go chasing all over the lower 40 like Laura Cerrano did in one of her recent posts. I will share some of these tricks and techniques on tomorrows My Megapixels Are Bigger Than Your Megapixels.

Friday's Fotos... I keep pushing the limits of my "old clunker" camera body that has served me faithfully the past 5 years. Having rolled the odometer more times than I care to count, I keep pushing beyond it's design capacity, by relying on techniques I learned when film was king. As my prayers for a new body go unanswered due to less than stellar market conditions, I enlisted the help of a friend. Since he is a natural, maybe the "Man Upstairs" will listen... Friday's Fotos ~ 2 for the Price of 1... As is typical for this time of the year, work has slowed down as folks prep for the long holiday weekend. I typically welcome this time as an opportunity to recharge my batteries and get into my right mind. What better way for anyone to get into their right mind than to go shoot something. The lavender around the bog pond is in full bloom providing a source of nourishment for the flying flowers that frequent my flower gardens. The flowers, flying and otherwise, have been providing nourishment for my

Friday's Fotos... It's finally Friday!!! The last day of the week for the typical nine to fivers but not for us in the real estate business. Our week is just beginning. Now I typically dedicate this day to post a "speechless" or "wordless" type post, however; this week I have been having fun with my "Inspection Photo of the Day" series. So what better way to end the 9-5 week but with another, "silly things you see on the job" type post that will leave you totally speechless. This one really had me scratching my head. On a recent rehab

Friday's Photos... As the temps warm and the gentle March rains start here in the middle Tennessee area, one of the first signs of spring are the daffodils waking up after their long slumber. Yesterday, while on an inspection, I could not help but take a few minutes to stop and smell the flowers - or in this case buds. Ah-h-h spring!!! It has finally made it --- Thank goodness!!! Friday Fotos... Dragonflies. That magical, mystical creature that bridges the gap between prehistoric times and today. We see them darting to and fro over ponds and glens. Their dances on air are something to behold. Their aerial acrobatics put trapeze artists in the back seat. Even at rest, these throw-backs to prehistoric times have a sense of mystery about them. Next to butterflies, dragonflies are one of my favorite insects to capture on film. Friday's Fotos ~ Looking forward towards warmer weather... Winter. Okay, enuf is enuf. Give me 2 days of flakes and cool temps and let's be done with it. Weeks upon weeks of drab, gray skies and frigid temps makes one think of the warmer/better days not too far ahead. I am so-o-o-o looking forward towards walking my favorite wooded walks and basking in the warmth of a soft summer rain. Can it get here soon enough? I certainly hope so. All this damp cold weather is adversely affecting my positive frame of mind... Complete

Friday's Fotos ~ Let's Get With the Program, Pal...Batten down the hatches 'cuz thar she blows - the blizzard of the century will hit Nashville. Or so said the weather prognosticators. Yeah Right!!! Get out the leaf blower to clear your drive kind of thing. H-m-m-m. Somewhere between the leaf snow blowing and other tasks, it seems as if I forgot to do something. I guess that these guys kinda sorta let me know that I need to get my priorities straight... Friday's Fotos...Photography is an art form. Sometimes, the artist will see a subject and manipulate the light by using filters, camera settings or even photo-shopping to bring out the desired effect. Shooting in the field is a different story. Being at the right place at the right time is the photographers equivalent to winning the Lotto. I call it, just getting lucky. I really got lucky to capture this scene in upper Michigan a few years back... Happy New Year...
