radnor lake: A Safe Place - We All Need One... - 02/10/14 06:15 PM
Radnor Lake located off Granny White Pike and Otter Creek Rd in southern Davidson County is one of the crown jewels in the park system in and around the Brentwood area. Nestled in the Overton Hills area just a short drive from my Brentwood home, it is my ‘Fortress of Solitude’ and my 'safe place' to relax and get away from it all; when life gets the upper hand and beats me up.
Radnor Lake has an interesting history. Originally it was used to provide water for the the steam engines and livestock passing through the Radnor train yard … (18 comments)

radnor lake: Friday's Fotos ~ It's the Sharp Eye that Gets the Shot… - 03/24/11 10:36 PM
Friday's Fotos ~ It's the Sharp Eye that Gets the Shot…It's not unusual to see several photographers on my morning walk around the lake. Oftentimes, we aid each other, telling them where wild life may be lurking or there is an interesting shot around the next bend. Since, I am usually walking at the crack of dawn, I often see things that are often missed by others. Walking the south shore, I saw several camera toting jocks hoofing it down the beaten trail, lugging what seemed to be several tons of cameras and lenses. Asking the usual, "Anything interesting?" "No, haven't … (48 comments)

radnor lake: Radnor Lake ~ Tennessee First State Wildlife Area… - 03/23/11 11:22 PM
Radnor Lake ~ Tennessee First State Wildlife Area…Radnor Lake State Natural Area was the first of its kind here in Tennessee. Needing a place to furnish water for steam locomotives and livestock for the Rador Train yard, the L&N Railroad purchased a track of land in the Overton Hills area of southern Davidson County in 1914. Originally used as a private hunting spot for railroad executives and guests, all hunting was banned by 1923 and declared a wildlife sanctuary. In 1962, a developer purchased the property with the intent to build subdivisions overlooking the 85 acre lake. Public outcry to preserve … (28 comments)

(not so) Wordless Wednesday…Have you ever been walking or doing something and get that feeling that you were being watched? Yesterday, while engaging my morning walk at Radnor Lake Wildlife Refuge a few miles from the house, I had that feeling. Who - Who-o-o-o-o's out there I queried?About 20 yards off the path, I saw the culprit nestled in the fork of a tree. Thankfully, I had long glass on the camera and was able to get a few good shots. Who-o-o-o knows, maybe I'll get lucky and see something different on this morning's walk...

radnor lake: Good Night ActiveRain... - 02/13/11 10:40 AM
Good Night ActiveRain...Today was one of those picture perfect days here in middle Tennessee. Temperatures in the mid 60's, plenty of sunshine and cobalt blue skies above. After what seemed to be eons of gray, cold, snowy days, this was a sight for sore eyes.  Folks came out of hibernation and headed for parks and walking trails all over Nashville and Williamson counties. Now that warm weather is heading our way, hopefully, the real estate market will start heating up too...

(not so) Speechless Sundae...
It has oft been said that practice makes perfect. And so it goes with everything, especially photography. I've been wanting to get out and play with my new camera, but the weather been anything but cooperative.   Yesterday was absolutely Gaw-Gis Dahling. Blue skies, abundant sunshine and above freezing temps prompted a walk around Radnor Lake Wilderness Area in Southern Davidson/Nashville Metro. There are several mistakes in this photo. But the whole purpose of the shoot was to learn, analyze and make adjustments. Hopefully, I will learn what's under the hood before warmer weather sets in...

Wordless Wednesday - Well kinda sorta... Wow! Hump day already? Where did the week go? I don't know about you, but this week has been a blur. Rarely does one get an opportunity to see the otters in Radnor Lake, but occasionally, I do get lucky...

radnor lake: Friday's Fotos - Be Sure to Wash Behind Your Ears... - 06/11/09 10:58 PM
On one of my daily treks around my favorite hiking trail not too far from the house, I came across this pair of does giving each other a bath. One must have been saying to the other, "Be sure to wash behind my ears good..." Can't wait until Sunday to get you foto fix, then "Friday's Fotos..." is the group for you. Dedicated to all you camera buffs who periodically get into their right mind if you know what I mean. Rules are similar as with the other groups - but with a slight twist. Let the fotos do the talking … (15 comments)

radnor lake: (not so) Speechless Sunday - Take Time for You... - 06/06/09 10:14 PM
(not so) Speechless Sunday... Because the summer selling season keeps coming at us in a fast and furious fashion, is it any wonder that many start getting a bad case of burnout? Let's face it, no matter what you do in the real estate market, we are all in the same boat we just man different oars. We all market, we all do our respective jobs, and we are all in this business because we like real estate and it is a a great way to earn a living. Because we only have a few short months to make the bulk … (22 comments)

radnor lake: My 2¢'s Worth - The End of the Day - 06/06/09 01:20 PM
As the long rays of the late afternoon sun start giving way to the cooler part of the evening, nothing is better than a nice quiet stroll by a peaceful lake. One of my favorite places to go is one of the hidden gems in the Davidson County park system - Radnor Lake wilderness area. Tonight I found these turtles coping the last warm rays of the day... radnor lake: Otters in Radnor Lake... - 11/05/08 10:02 PM
One of this areas well kept secrets is Radnor Lake wild life refuge, the States first "natural area" located in the southern end of Davidson county off Otter Creek Road. With its 1200+ acres and miles of walking trails with various ranges of difficulty, it is great spot to walk and take in nature. There are parking lots located off the entrance on Granny White Pike and another off Franklin Road. Due to heavy pedestrian traffic and the poor condition of the road, no car traffic is allowed between the parking lots except for the park rangers.
For years, I have … (17 comments)
