A new piece of equipment...
I got myself a new piece of equipment the other day. No not for the office. This new piece of equipment is for me... and actually cost under $5....
Here’s why: I’m like so many others at the beginning of the year that cry - I’ve got to do something to get into shape!!
But here’s me - start - go great guns - slack off - quite. I’ve joined fitness clubs, wellness centers, tried owning home equipment but nothing sticks.
So what’s this new piece of equipment I bought? Are you ready.... a pedometer.
That’s right a pedometer. It doesn’t burn calories, it doesn’t tone my muscles, it actually doesn’t promise me anything.
It just tells me the truth.
Here's a question for you; do you know how many steps a healthy adult is suppose to take each and every day to be considered active? 10,000. Ten thousand steps a day. Now you may THINK you walk around a lot - but unless you walk/run for about 30 to 60 minutes a day you don’t come close. I didn’t. But I secretly told myself that since the notion of walking 10,000 steps per day for health and weight loss was popularized originally in Japan, maybe their steps were shorter.... um no.
That’s where the pedometer comes in. Wearing it forces me to make a chose - park further from the entrance door or fight for the closest one. Take the elevator or walk up/down the stairs. Sit ALL day in front of the computer OR take a 10 minute break every couple hours and walk around (preferably outside). And with all the places here in Wake County to take advantage of our fantastic weather there's no exscuse NOT to get moving!
So where am I on my daily journey? Only up to about 4,000 steps a day. I have a ways to go. But I like this new piece of equipment. It’s not intimidating.
Want to start a walking club here in the Rain? Grab a pedometer and we can track our miles - let’s walk ourselves healthy!
