cats: Decorative outdoor accessories - 03/22/13 05:24 AM

How do you decorate your fence shelves?
Here is a suggestion.  Ask your basic black and white cat to lounge attractively on it.
Placement is important too.  The draping effect is more dramatic than a straight on napping appearance.
Not only does this make good use of the space, it also looks attractive.
Admittedly the procedure works best when the cat thinks it is her idea.

cats: Potted cat anyone....? - 03/10/13 12:16 PM
Since the orphaned cats adopted our yard as their primary place of play, it has been a never ending source of amusement.

The creativity displayed is downright fun!

How many of us could come up with unusual but probably comfortable napping spots such as the one in the photo.

Ralph worked hard to repot one of our favorite plants just a few weeks ago.  Following careful instructions off the Internet, he cut the Plumaria, trimmed its roots and provided it with new soil.

We only hope that the plant is enjoying its freshened environment.  It appears that … (1 comments)

cats: Undiiagnosed lump. - 11/22/12 09:27 AM

Lumps come with some questions.  The most basic is:  "what caused that?In our house, the lump appears intermittently.  Although the location changes, the cause is always the same.It is our alpha  cat in stealth mode.  She literally spends hours tucked under one bedspread or rug or another.I wonder what it would feel like to spend hours resting during daylight hours.  Not only would it be totally unproductive, it would have no rewards.Lucky for the cat, she does not have to be productive.  For those of us who do need to produce income and results, we also enjoy … (0 comments)

cats: Highest and best use for a toe... - 10/18/12 10:05 AM

Over my lifetime I have had several cats.  I truly felt that I knew a lot about them and their habits.

Within the past year two of the cats in our life have suddenly developed a fondness for having their ears scratched.

What is unusual about that is the source of the scratching.  Both of these favorite felines have begun to lie on my foot.

One is an inside cat, one is outside.  To my knowledge, they have not observed each other doing this.  It feels really odd to have that much weight on your … (5 comments)

cats: Is you cat computer literate? - 10/06/12 12:07 PM
If appearances could be trusted, it would appear that Ralph's cat, Jazz is!

Imagine our surprise when we caught her studying the keyboard so intently!

In complete denial mode my first thought was that she had found a trespassing insect.

Although we have never doubted her extreme intelligence and incredible loyalty, it never occurred to us that the time she spent I'm close proximity to Ralphs computer was allowing her to soak up skills!

Now that we know of her intense interest,   I think I will see if she might like to write our next newsletter.

cats: Comfort is where you find it... - 08/26/12 09:58 AM

We frequently learn lessons from the wildlife in and around our home.  Case in point well illustrated!

Bathroom rugs have to be removed when cleaning the floors.

Yesterday after I achieved the completion of the task, I became distracted before putting things back in order.

When I returned to that area I found that the cat in the photo, had taken up residence under the middle of the pile of rugs.

She usually does nap on the rug by the shower.

Obviously when she found it moved, she simply adapted and had a little … (0 comments)

cats: End of our entertainment... - 07/14/12 05:10 AM
Today we found feathers in the back yard under the bird feeder.

Evidently the cooler weather inspired the yard cats to procure a bird snack.

For two years since these cats adopted our yard, we had suspended the feeding of the birds and squirrels.

We did not wish to encourage the critters to come where their lives might be threatened.

Recently we started to put out seeds again.  We thought that the cat food we furnished would keep the feline population satisfied.

Wrong!

We cannot stop the loss of the one bird,  we can stop … (5 comments)

cats: Don't forget to pack the cat! - 06/08/12 05:23 AM
During our several months of downsizing efforts we have frequently left empty boxes unattended.

This seems to be more temptation than our cats can withstand.

This one seems to be either determined to slow down our progress ,  or perhaps to remind us that she needs to go with us.

I wonder what she is thinking.

It may be that the box represents nothing more than a previously unexplored space.

If there were some way to assure her that we would not consider leaving home without her it would be less stressful to see her hunkered … (4 comments)

cats: Special Kitchen Storage - 05/17/12 11:43 PM

I don't know about you , but what goes into my kitchen cabinets is monitored carefully.

Kitchen spaces are for keeping clean and easy to access.

When I am cooking I expect everything to be ready to use.

Recently we had a couple of days with our cat who felt it was alright for her to store her cute but furry body among my pots and pans.

I have conceded other spaces to this cuddly animal .  I will not share the cabinet space with her.

She clearly does not understand.  Discipline and … (2 comments)

cats: Nap time!! - 05/08/12 05:33 AM

When we moved into this present house I had plans to use every square inch of the front window for plants.

It was one of the features that had attracted me most.

Shortly after our moving in I began to notice that our cats had other ideas about the use of the space.

For a short time I argued with them.  It did not serve any purpose other than to annoy us all.

Deciding that life is too short to take on unwarranted battles,  I wisely made arrangements to share the space.

Now … (3 comments)

cats: Warmth is where you find it!! - 12/06/11 03:34 PM
Friends and family are important for many reasons.  The ability to get close to someone seems to be a basic need. Here we see a classic demonstration of that concept.  These two cats adopted us about a year ago.  They have managed to worm their way into our hearts although we cannot allow them to live inside .  Our two eight year old kitty's adopted from a shelter in Durango would not approve. The patio allows these two to hunker down and they have achieved a very special closeness.  Usually that sort of closeness is  reserved for heart to heart friends who share … (3 comments)

cats: Fishbowl Effect - 11/27/11 10:53 AM
In our remodeling efforts we have moved several things onto the covered patio to make room to complete projects.  The arrangement seems to have been favorably received by two of the outside cats who adopted us last year about this time.
They have settled in on our patio and in fact made our back yard their own.  We resisted them at first because we had been in the habit of feeding the migratory birds and the neighborhood squirrels.  The cats gradually won us over and they have eliminated any thought of mice or rats which we did occasionally have before the … (0 comments)

cats: Even Kitty is interested in The Word! - 10/15/10 03:21 PM

What would we do without pets in our lives to entertain and amuse us?

After a stressing day of driving around evaluating properties or looking for just the right one for a particular client, it is a calculated part of our homecoming to find our two indoor cats and two outdoor cats waiting for us as. Even on the days when we have been out looking properties over , we can still count on the faithful kitty's to greet us and share a part of their day.

We secured the services of these two five years ago this … (3 comments)

cats: A Cat Named Kitty Pooh! A Day in the Life of a REALTOR! - 09/14/10 03:43 PM
The first company I worked with had a policy of having an agent from our company accompany on each showing of one of the company listings.  The theory was that the listing companies agents should know every property we represented and be prepared to present the best features and answer any questions that the showing agent might have.
On one such accompanying adventure there was a cat involved.
The instructions had been that the kitty would be secured in the half bath downstairs.  We were not to show that bathroom until the second showing when the homeowner would remove the cat … (1 comments)
