hawaii chess federation: 2011 Hawaii State Chess Championships - 09/03/11 12:45 PM
This Labor Day Weekend I will be wearing one of my other hats, that of Hawaii Chess Federation president.  The Hawaii State Open Chess Championships will be held at the Ohana East Hotel in Waikiki.  The time control will be Game/ 120.  (Each player will have 2 hours on their clocks to complete of their moves.  Giving a total of 4 hours for each game.)  Pawns will be down range at 9:00am this morning.

hawaii chess federation: Mililani Scholastic Chess Player Wins Big in Las Vegas - 12/31/10 07:29 PM
Evan Zheng, a Mililani Middle School student traveled to Las Vegas to play in the 2010 National Open Chess Tournament and is returning home with $6078.00 in his pocket.
Evan was one of several Hawaii chess players to compete in the event.  Being an open tournament there was no age restrictions, Evan competed with adults in his rating section.  After 7 rounds Evan finished in clear 1st place in the 1500 and under section ("C" class) with a score of 6.5 points (6 wins and 1 draw).

hawaii chess federation: Mililani Wiz Kids Shine at Hawaii Chess Championships - 03/24/10 12:23 PM
Stephen L. J. Mau from Mililani High School goes undefeated to finish as the State High School Chess Champion!  Stephen stepped in this year to fill the big shoes of 2-time National Champ Robert Lau who graduated from Mililani High School last year.  Under Stephen’s leadership, Mililani High School finished tied with Kamehameha Schools as the team champs.  This is the third straight year the Mililani High School team has finished at the top of the heap at the State Championships.  Teammate Ryan Jose` Palomares finished tied for the top 11th grade spot.

Hawaii Chess Kids Do Well at SuperNationals Tournament
A small group of youngsters representing Hawaii performed extraordinarily well.  Over 5,000 youngsters gathered this weekend, representing 47 states, for the Super Nationals, grades K-12 (all Nationals combined) in Nashville.  Even though there are lower rated divisions, all Hawaii players competed in their respective Championship Division, the highest available for their respective age/grade group.

The 2008 Hawaii State Open Chess Championships will be held this weekend at the Outrigger Ohana East Hotel.  Even if you are not playing you are welcome to come as a spectator.  they will also be practice games going on.  See you this weekend!

Well known Hawaii REALTOR®, Randy L. Prothero will interviewed on local TV show, The Kukui Connection as a guest of State Representative Marilyn Lee. 
He will be wearing one of his other hats, that of Hawaii Chess Federation President and head of the "Chess in the Schools Program".
                                                                     
The show is scheduled to play three times this month.  It can be viewed on local TV channel 54 or through the station's website at the same times.

On a personal note: My oldest son Daniel played for the Mililani High School team and came home with the team state title and my youngest son Jacob tied for the 1st grade state title.

hawaii chess federation: A Sunny Day of Chess and Real Estate in Hawaii - 01/20/07 08:01 PM
I am writing this post from the Gazebo at The Town Center of Mililani, while running a rated chess tournament today.  I am wearing the official Hawaii uniform of shorts slippers and my Century 21 golf shirt embroidered with my information on it.
A realtor friend of mine questioned why I take an entire day off to run these events?  "Aren't you too busy to be hanging out at the mall all day"?
What that agent doesn't seem to grasp is that:
