professionalism: You Might Consider Another Line of Work - 10/02/11 04:21 AM
Jeff Foxworthy has, “you might be a redneck.”  I have, “you might consider another line of work.”
If you are a real estate agent or a loan officer and:
1)      You don’t put your client’s needs ahead of yours; you might consider another line of work.
2)      You don’t return phone calls on a timely basis; you might consider another line of work.
3)      You are not getting properly trained; you might consider another line of work.
4)      You don’t like people and you can’t treat everyone exactly the same; you might consider another line of work.
5)      If you … (66 comments)

professionalism: You Want a Guarantee of Profit From Your REALTOR®? - 04/05/08 11:59 PM
I have been asked many times what kind of appreciation in value a buyer should expect from the purchase of a property?  I have also heard other agents asked that question.
I have been quite shocked and amazed how many times an agent was willing to stick their neck out and predict the market.  No intelligent agent would go there period.
I bet there are many folks out there who bought properties three or four years ago and were told how much money they should make, to now be foreclosed on or be in a short sale.
I will share historical data with clients and … (22 comments)

professionalism: Why Publicly Write About Bad Agents or Bad Business Practices? - 01/24/08 03:09 AM
Yesterday, while going through my e-mail I had a message from a really great client who found me through Active Rain.  Towards the end of his message he stated:
"It seems business is good based on your blog. I still read it regularly. Keep up the great stories, especially the ones about the bad agents. Makes me feel all the more appreciative I found a good agent when I bought my place!"
The public is reading our posts.  Why should we be writing about bad agents and posting it publicly?  Some may say we are airing our dirty laundry.   Some may say … (62 comments)

professionalism: VA Loans - Even Experienced Agents are Clueless at Times - 01/23/08 07:46 PM
I am amazed how many times I come across and another agent who has been in the business for a long time (over 35 years in this case) and still does not seem to know what they are doing.
I had a somewhat frustrating one last week.  After showing my buyers many properties over a few days of looking we found the one they wanted.  The seller's agent informed me they were expecting two other offers.  We put together a clean offer with no extra contingencies.  They are using a VA loan and the lender is picking up the non-allowables, leaving no … (25 comments)

professionalism: Buyer’s Remorse - 12/24/07 07:15 PM

One of the things we have all faced is buyer's remorse.  Buying a home is extremely stressful for most clients.  We in the profession who do this on a daily basis can easily treat the process of buying a home like a routine act.  It may be for us, but not for our buyers.  This is the biggest thing they will buy in their life in most cases.
Did they get the perfect home?  Did they get it at the right price?  How will they ever make those huge mortgage payments?  What if something bad happens like the roof leaks.  Being … (33 comments)

professionalism: REALTORS® Want the Love - 12/04/07 06:03 PM

So many times I see other agents getting themselves in situations they should never have gotten themselves into.  Many are just not professional, but there is another group: Those who need to be loved.
Most real estate agents want everyone to love them, so they do what they think will bring them the love.  Being loved is a need we all have, but it can be a big problem when that need is placed ahead of being a professional.
How many times have you gone against your better judgment to appease your clients?

professionalism: Know What You Don’t Know! - 10/05/07 03:14 PM
One of the issues I run into with new people in our business is they many times are so green, they do not know what they don't know.
It is dangerous to enter this or any business with little to no training and blindly head out.  If you are a new real estate agent or a new loan officer, let me give you a couple of tips that may save you a world of hurt.
Find a good company and broker to hang your license with.  Find someone well established in the business who offers additional training.Budget money for training.  Take industry training … (13 comments)

professionalism: Expecting Professional Behavior, The Story Gets Worse – Part 1 - 07/14/07 04:08 PM
Since writing the blog post yesterday where I referenced three agents who I have had bad experiences with in the last few weeks one of transactions is now at the next level.
One of the things I dread about dealing with a bad agent is not just the problems they create while in the transaction, but the long term hassles that may come from it.  I have an escrow with a principal broker on the other side.  Until 4 weeks into the escrow I thought he was a figment of someone's imagination.  I have never seen, spoken or even got a returned … (6 comments)
