New NE Phoenix Listing: Remodeled Gem on Huge Lot in the Chaparral High School District! - 03/24/08 10:36 PM
A remodeled home on an 18,000 square foot lot in the Chaparral High School District for less than $500,000?!!! Am I kidding?  Nope!  This might just be the best value in all of Northeast Phoenix and Scottsdale.  The land alone is nearly worth the asking price!
(Yes, I am aware there is a big pile of gravel in the driveway!  It is destined for spreading around the sport court in the back yard.  The seller is such a reasonable fellow that he won't even make the buyer do it!)
One lucky buyer gets far more than land value, however.  This 4 bedroom, 2 bath … (10 comments)

One - 03/22/08 05:07 PM
One is the disjointed gait of
Purposeful lunges and pinwheeling arms.
One is the raucous squeal of
Triumph and warbling wail of defeat.
One revolution of the earth around the sun
Puts one candle on your cake, son.
One familiar waltz for the old man
Is your very first tango.
Your cloudless sky
The only rival for those baby blues.
Your smile fills voids that never were.
Time doesn't notice,
But I do.
And I will.
When one becomes two,
And two becomes forever.
Happy Birthday, Wy Wy.
Daddy loves you.

MEDIAN HOME VALUE IN SCOTTSDALE PLUMMETS BY ... 1.9%??? - 03/16/08 12:30 PM
According to an article in the Arizona Republic on Saturday (3/15/08), the same publication which has been trumpeting the wholesale demise of Real Estate values in Maricopa County for the past year and a half, the median value of homes that sold in Scottsdale in 2007 showed a 1.9% decline from 2006.
 1.9%???
This is the precipitous value decline that we have been hearing about here in Scottsdale?
The same article goes on to say that the town of Carefree, second only to Paradise Valley in highest median values in Maricopa County, actually saw an increase of 6.7% in the median home value from 2006 … (18 comments)

Georgia On My Mind - 03/06/08 08:24 PM
I can't use my right hand to turn the key in the ignition because the splint gets in the way.
I have to shake hands with my left.
I flipped off the entire gym when I attempted to perform a bench press yesterday.
Admittedly, I do this last one all the time.
Don't even get me started on how long this post is going to take to type.
Before I regale you with my tale of woe that led to my present condition, however, allow me to share everything that went right last weekend.
My precocious eldest niece was turning three. Cake, ice cream and a … (37 comments)

Jason's Friend Still Needs Our Help! - 03/06/08 01:32 PM
For those of us who have been following the story of Jason Crouch's good friend, David Wilder, it has been a roller coaster of emotions.  His plight has been well chronicled by Jason and others, notably Melissa Grant, here on Active Rain, but please indulge this brief summary.
David, by all accounts, is one of the good guys.  Upbeat, talkative and just enthusiastic about life in general, he faced the daunting diagnosis of throat cancer recently.  Among other things, he lost his tongue and vocal chords to this insidious disease.  This was only half of the battle, though.
David did not have health insurance at the … (18 comments)

Tee it Up! Golf Courses in Scottsdale, Arizona - 03/04/08 06:56 PM
Scottsdale and Golf go together like peanut butter and jelly.  Like Sam and Dave.  Rest and relaxation.
Listed in the 2006 Robb Report as "America's Best Place to Live for Golf," scratch players and weekend duffers alike make the pilgrimage to play Scottsdale's traditional and target desert courses every year.  Many end up purchasing a second home or moving here altogether for nothing more than the amazing variety and plentiful choices that the Valley provides a golf enthusiast.
Averaging 330 days of sunshine a year, few and far between are the outings that must be cancelled due to inclement weather.  And for those … (18 comments)
