10591: Fotos on the fly – Stormy weather in Tarrytown NY - 10/04/11 05:20 PM
A brief bout of flu has kept me from blogging.  But a few days ago I mentioned how stormy the weather has been.  Well sometimes stormy skies can have an eerie beauty about them.  So when I saw this kind of surreal light over a cloudy sky along the Tarrytown lakes – I stopped my car and took a couple of photos.  Here is one of them.  You really see the clouds almost rolling in and the sun TRYING to peak through.

10591: Fotos on the Fly – Tarrytown NY - 09/25/11 04:41 PM
Ok – I like taking photos – I admit it…Any excuse to photograph towns and villages in the area will do.
One of the most picturesque towns in Westchester is Tarrytown NY.  Many people fall in love with this town because of its central location and unique character.   With respect to location, it doesn’t get any better than this!  Located right on the Hudson River, an amazing sunset is served up every single night!   Futher, Tarrytown is an express stop along the Hudson Line.  Just 35 minute to Grand Central Station and you are in midtown Manhattan.   With I-287, I-87 and … (4 comments)

10591: Bark & Meow of Tarrytown NY – The Best Dog Bed Ever! - 09/20/11 03:41 PM
Although I often talk about merchants in Westchester NY, I don’t often discuss specific products found in these stores. But being a dog owner with two Siberian Huskies and a Siberain/Cattle Dog mix, I am in a good position to be judging the quality of dog beds.  So I can say with total confidence that I found the best dog bed EVER at Bark & Meow in Tarrytown NY.

For much of my adult life,  I have been seeking the perfect dog bed that doesn’t get frayed, torn, chewed or otherwise destroyed within the first three months of use.  Maybe … (2 comments)

10591: Fotos on the Fly: Camouflage in nature… - 09/19/11 03:17 PM
Today I was reminded that nature sometimes clothes it creatures in the most remarkable ways.  I was at the Dog Park at Kingsland Point Park and was admittedly on poop patrol – cleaning up after my dogs.  While I was looking in the brown leaves on the ground…one of the leaves suddenly started hopping along the ground.   There it was ….. a tiny frog….so well camouflaged that I would never have seen it if I hadn’t been really focused on the ground.   I only had my phone camera – but here it is…can you even see my little amphibian friend?
We … (23 comments)

10591: Fotos on the Fly – The Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow river front post-Irene - 09/04/11 04:42 PM

It was just last week that Irene ripped through the tri-state area dumping a foot of water, strong winds and leaving flooding, downed power lines, and chaos in its wake. Although Westchester NY got off pretty easy when we consider what happened elsewhere, there were sections that were heavy hit.  In many ways I assumed that the River Towns and particularly the river front area would have been a prime target for damage.  I heard nothing on the local news about Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.   There was some discussion of downed trees, but nothing serious.  The eastern portion of the … (4 comments)

10591: Fotos on the Fly – Tarrytown Train Station – Tarrytown NY - 09/01/11 04:32 PM

Today I found myself on the River Walk with a friend that I hadn’t seen for a long time in Tarrytown.  Sadly, my photos on the River didn’t work out because my camera was on the wrong setting.  However, on my way home I decided to check the progress on the Tarrytown Train Station.
The Train Station is just steps away from the new development  Hudson Harbor – a new luxury condo development that is selling very well.  The renovation at the train station has been part of bigger project to revive the river front.  Various development projects have been … (2 comments)

10591: Coffee Labs and the Lagond Music School – Great coffee and entertainment… - 05/22/11 03:23 PM

Last night I decided to spend some quality time at Coffee Labs on Main Street in Tarrytown NY. after dinner.  It is often a very nice place to relax, grab some bandwidth and enjoy the live music that is offered on Friday and Saturday nights.  I arrived fairly late because I had gone out to dinner with friends, but the band was still playing.  They were from the Lagond  Music School located in Elmsford NY.  The performers were all very young to my middle-aged eyes and the quality of the music was excellent.
The Lagond Music School is a not-for-profit … (1 comments)

The other day I  found myself near Tarrytown in early the evening and I decided to see what the was happening on the River Walk.  When public monies go into planning a project -it is always hoped that the public will enjoy the space.  Reclaiming the shore along the Hudson for a long River Walk was a brilliant idea and I was pleased to see that the public was taking full advantage of the weather and the area.  There were many people walking, … (3 comments)

10591: Hudson Harbor – Tarrytown NY - 01/20/11 09:09 AM
Hudson  Harbor – Tarrytown NY
One of the largest developments on the western side of lower Westchester is Hudson Harbor – Tarrytown NY.   The complex is beginning its second phase but there are still some units  available in phase one for purchase.
Hudson Harbor  is located right on the Hudson River against a major portion of the Westchester’s Hudson River Walk -A trail  which will ultimately  extend the length of the county along the Hudson River when completed.  This development is a combination of luxury townhomes as well as condominium flats. Interspersed between the town homes will sit a complete … (1 comments)

10591: Hudson River Sunsets - Boating & Kayaking in Sleepy Hollow - 10591 - 07/16/08 07:51 PM
I happened to be in one of my favorite places last night - the Sleepy Hollow dog park in Kingsland Point Park. As I was leaving I saw all the boats on the Hudson River. One thing about being around the river towns such as Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown and Irvington of Westchester is that there is always a beautiful view. On a bright and warm summer evening its possible to see kayaking and sailing along the Hudson. Tonight was such a night and as luck would have it, my trusty camera was on-hand. I was even lucky enough to catch the … (12 comments)

10591: Happy 4th of July Everybody…..from Ichabod’s Landing in Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 - 07/04/08 05:43 PM
This year I spent the 4th in Sleepy Hollow near Ichabod’s Landing. I decided to go for the fireworks display after going for a hike with some friends earlier in the day. I found a vantage point and settled in – conversing with all the other “tourists” during the wait.. Since I hadn’t tried this before, I just blindly followed the crowd, trusting the wisdom of the mob! We all ended up planted just above the newly created portion of the Westchester River Walk at Ichabod's Landing. To get a good spot, you had to get there early. To a child, … (8 comments)

10591: 3rd Friday and the Tarrytown Annual Pet Parade, Tarrytown, NY 10591 - 06/21/08 02:47 PM
Friday was a very busy day for me. I had tried to attend the Annual Pet Parade last year and work got in the way...and I almost had to bypass it this year as well. But I was able to work out a very short and fashionably late attendance and was glad I did. The parade begins on Route 9 and extends down Main Street. Animal rescue and, pet products, and anything to do with pets in general was out in force. There were “Pooch Games” sponsored by Bark & Meow. Greyhound rescue was out in force with dogs that are … (5 comments)

10591: River-Walk and Ferry Landing in Tarrytown, NY 10591 - 06/07/08 03:40 PM
Recently, I wrote a series of blogs about Sleepy Hollow. One was about the Sleepy Hollow portion of the River Walk, which is a very ambitious plan to create a long linear park where one could literally walk along the Hudson River from the Putnam County border all the way to the border of the Bronx. I had several photos of the River Walk from Sleepy Hollow from Ichabod’s Landing - which is a work in progress that has stalled because of the controversy surrounding the development at Lighthouse Landing.
Yesterday, I took some time to take a walk along the … (0 comments)

10591: Pet-Friendly Condos in Sleepy Hollow: Ichabod’s Landing: Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 - 05/24/08 04:50 PM
Ichabod’s Landing is name after Ichabod Crane, Washington Irving’s  famous character from the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”  This is relatively new construction that was only available for purchase in 2004. Most  notably the complex sits right on the  Hudson River, literally steps from a swath of the Hudson River Walk that is under construction and will eventually run from the tip of Westchester county (at the Putnam border) to the border of New York City in the South (from Peekskill to Yonkers.)  The views from the River Walk are spectacular and I have a few pictures of the area immediately surrounding … (4 comments)

10591: Growing up Gosling - Whatever Happened to the Goslings at the Rockefeller Preserve? - Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 - 05/17/08 02:37 PM
A couple of weeks ago I posted some photos of brand new baby goslings out with their "parents" for what appeared to be one of their first outings in Swan Lake.  They were so small that they appeared to be like tiny corks in the water, bobbing up and down -making photos a challenge to take.
Well, the goslings have certainly GROWN.  Four are now two - unfortunately - but I am pleased to report that the two remaining are thriving in quiet beauty of the Rockefeller Preserve. They are looking more self assured, perhaps a bit too much so, … (0 comments)

10591: The Peony Monument to the Victims of Sept 11, 2001 - at the Rockefeller Preserve, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 - 05/15/08 06:49 AM
Following the tragedy of September 11, 2001,  Yatsuka Cho, a town in Simane Prefecture, Japan offered a gift of over 500 peonies to the United States as a healing memorial.  It was also a gesture of solidarity and support from a former enemy of the United States who less than 60 years ago were locked in combat with us during World War II. The peony is considered to Japan’s most noble of flowers  and is the “signature flower” for the region. The Rockefeller Preserve accepted the gift and renovated the entrance to the Preserve in order to accommodate the peonies.  Planting … (12 comments)

10591: Family Time.....Goslings at the Rockefeller Preserve, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 - 05/05/08 09:48 AM
I was able to escape to one of my favorite places for a nice walk: The Rockefeller Preserve in Sleepy Hollow. Much to my delight, the Geese had been done what geese do in the spring - produce goslings. I was able to spy a mated pair waddling out into Swan Lake with what I imagined was one of the their first times out with their "young family." Making sure all four were in tow they ventured out into the middle of the lake enjoying the late afternoon sunshine. I watched until they were in the middle of the lake. Taking … (11 comments)

10591: Spring Has Been Taking It's Time......in Westchester, NY - (Part 1) - 04/19/08 09:13 PM
For the last few weeks, I've been taking photos here and there in Westchester - waiting and watching for the emergence of spring.  It seemed to be taking its sweet time this year.  It’s been quite cool and the buds were bravely popping up out of their hiding places.   Here are some random shots I took during my travels over the past 10 days…..culminating on April 16th when I took a walk at the Rockefeller Preserve in Sleepy Hollow, NY.  One could see how green the grass was becoming and how things were just about to “pop.”  That day was quite … (11 comments)

10591: Things to Do & See in Westchester: Early Spring Walk at the Rockefeller Preserve - 04/05/08 06:04 PM
It was a beautiful sunny day on Wednesday, and I was able to get away early - so I decided to take Jade and Tundra to the Rockefeller Preserve in Sleepy Hollow, NY. The Preserve is well known as an "important bird area" and for its working farm. Tundra, being brought home towards the end of July last summer as a small pup - was only introduced to the preserve towards the end of December. So this was one of the first time she encountered a brand new animal called the COW! We were all walking along very happily when suddenly … (6 comments)
