Have you been to our most awesome outdoor pool yet this year? If not … why not? (It is at 3130 16 Street SW). At a recent South Calgary Board Meeting someone had the audacity to raise the question: “Should we close the pool? We lost $20,000 last year.”
Like many of you, I very much value our pool … but almost never use it! So I committed to using it and brought some of my triathlon training buddies to the facility. I loved our early morning swim. However, I noted some of my buddies were laughing and ‘complaining’ … (0 comments)

south calgary: Cruising Through Life … Getting to Unconscious Competence

Last year, along with my roles as a realtor, husband, and father … I set a goal to qualify for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. I also set goals around my business, finances, fun time, contribution and relationships. (Things worked out pretty well.)
In the process of determining what I want 2009 to look like, I came across some notes I took from some lecture on Maslow’s Four Levels of Learning. From my pen scrawled notes, I reflected on these levels of learning: Unconscious Incompetence; Conscious Incompetence, Conscious Competence, and Unconscious Competence.

The South Calgary Community Association has some exciting news regarding the 5th Annual Garrison Woods Calgary Inter-Faith Food Drive and are hoping you will join the team of elves.
Last December over 900 letters and bags were delivered to virtually every home in Garrison Woods. We then collected approximately 3,750 lbs. of food from our wonderful residents. We are anxious to continue this tradition however have made the decision to defer our Drive until January 2009. The Interfaith Food Bank has informed us that there is a large spirit of giving over Christmas however early in the New Year their food supplies start to run low. south calgary: Marda Loop, South Calgary, Altadore and Garrison Woods - New Gateway Coming Soon

In November or December Marda Loop, South Calgary, Altadore, and Garrison Woods will be enjoying the installation of a New Gateway Feature! Calgary Transit has finally agreed to fund the installation of this (first) structure – which will be on the east side of 33 Avenue and Crowchild Trail SW.
The design for the second structure is complete, however, the BRZ and community will have to raise the money, this installation can also proceed. The budget to do this would be around $150,000. It would be great to initiate a Local Improvement project to accomplish this. The link below … (0 comments)

Have a little one ready for 3-year-old or 4-year-old preschool next September? You won't want to miss registration for the 2008/2009 South Calgary Community Preschool program. Regular (first-time) registration will take place at 7pm on Monday, February 25 at the SCCA hall (there is generally a line-up by early afternoon!). New for 2008/2009: Children will have to be 3 or 4 by December 31st to enter the Three or Four year old programs. New boundaries are also being applied due to increased demand for this program. I love living in Altadore. I think it is the hidden gem of Calgary. We are tucked into a small pocket North of Glenmore Trail and East of Crowchild. To the West we enjoy River Park and the Elbow River. Our trails take us around the Glenmore Reservoir or all the way downtown to the Bow River. While I use my car way too much ... living in Altadore affords the opportunity to walk or cycle to all community conveniences.
