marketing: A Picture is Worth ... - 07/13/12 07:49 AM
There's an anonymous old joke that photographers like.  "If you saw a man drowning and could either save him or photograph the event ... what kind of film would you use?"
Obviosly, photographers tend to view everything they see as a potential photograph, and the best of them also have the imagination and skill to properly compose their shots and capture them in a way that elicits reactions from those who see them.  And, that old saying that a "picture is worth 10,000 words" holds value for real estate professionals as well.

There's money in that camera in your desk … (14 comments)

marketing: You're a Content Marketer - Like It Or Not! - 04/25/12 07:07 AM
How many black hat SEOs does it take to change a light bulb?
None. Black hat SEOs don't change the light bulb. They just redirect people to a different room where there is no light.
Thanks to Hubspot.com for the joke.

We spend a ton of time, effort and maybe money in marketing on the Internet.  But, when it comes to search engines, it's all about the content.  And, whether we like it or not, we're not Realtors® trying to generate leads, we're content marketers.  Our content is supposed to attract visitors, engage them, and then offer them an … (6 comments)

marketing: CRM, More Than Just Working Leads & Prospects - 12/12/11 10:08 AM
CRM, that's Customer Relationship Management, is a valuable tool that's underutilized by many real estate professionals.  Actually, it's far more than a tool; it's an approach to doing business that builds and improves business.  Let's look at it from a straight nomenclature point of view.

"Customer"
You notice this isn't "prospect," "lead," or "site visitor."  It's customer.  So, we should immediately start out with the knowledge that this isn't a tool or process directed solely at someone we're trying to gain as a customer or client.  It's much more broad, a process that will assure that we reach not … (7 comments)

marketing: Drip Email Doesn't Mean A Flood - Effective Drip Email Follow-up - 09/13/11 04:47 PM

"Hi there!  I'm so glad that my many hours of work on my website and the money I spent on PPC, Pay-Per-Click advertising got you to my site.  Then that great landing page and form enticed you to give me your email address, and I do appreciate it.  To show my appreciation, I'm going to drown you in emails of very little interest to you, but it's really important that you read them so I'll get your real estate business.  THANKS AGAIN!"
Think of this approach pre-Internet; you would be knocking on their front door with a new … (8 comments)

marketing: Web Leads - We Don't Qualify Them - They Qualify Us - 08/24/11 09:42 AM

I found a concise definition of “lead qualification” online (with a Google search of course).  It said that lead qualification is:  “Marketing activities focused on evaluating the readiness, willingness, and ability of a lead to buy.”
My last post about Pay Per Click marketing generated questions in the comments about “qualifying” leads, follow-up, and statements that getting leads wasn’t enough … they must be qualified.  Web marketing isn’t easy, and we can get caught up in a lot of tactical maneuvering to get someone to our website.

We wade in, spend huge amounts of time and significant amounts of money to … (10 comments)

marketing: 12 Step Program to PPC Marketing Success - 08/17/11 06:24 PM
OK, before I get comments that correctly point out that every market is different, and that every marketing method has merit and value, I'll concede that now.  However, and it's a big however, even after the Internet has so dramatically changed the way people research, buy and sell real estate, there are plenty of real estate professionals who just can't seem to get out of a rut with marketing.
This post is about TIME and MONEY.  If you don't spend any money on marketing, then you can't change where you spend it ... not to mention that you're either really good … (23 comments)

marketing: The 7 Deadly Sins of Web Lead Follow-up - 08/11/11 05:31 PM
What percentage of your commission income last year came from pure website leads?
80% to 100% -  You're a lead generation & follow-up rock star! 50% to  80% -  You're doing better than around 90% of your competitors.  Keep it up! 30% to  50% -  You're doing OK, and doing a lot of traditional marketing as well. 10% to  30% - I hope you're out knocking on doors, and handing out cards. 0%   to  10% - A website is something you look at on a computer.  A computer is...
