Don't Count Your Money - 10/28/11 09:04 AM
I never got into the habit of counting my chickens before they were hatched, but I remember plenty of good real estate agents that did.
Counting Your Money Is Not A Good Idea While I didn't think it was a good idea when the market was brisk, I definitely don't think it is a good idea with the current market conditions.  As the market begins to recover I believe that it is going to take the consumer a bit longer to recover.  In our marketplace I have noticed that even when a buyer finally makes the decision to purchase a property, … (10 comments)

You Don't Know What You Don't Know - 10/25/11 08:58 AM
"I know how to prospect"..."I know how to market nemyself"..."I know how to get a listing"..."so I don't need training".
You DO Need Training I constantly hear this from agents, new and old...or should I say "more experienced" agents. But how do you tell someone politely that, yes, you DO need real estate agent training because you don't know what you don't know.
Successful Agents Get Training Most new real estate agents come from another career where they were successful.  But while they may think they know what to do to become successful as a real estate agent, it's good to get … (5 comments)

Stop Being a Victim - 10/20/11 10:40 AM
As a real estate agent trainer I get to talk to a lot of real estate agents who are at various stages in their careers.
Real Estate Agent Training Is Critical Just the other day I was speaking with an agent who has been in the business for less than a year.  She was asking several questions that were extremely basic and I explained to her why she really needed to attend some of the training sessions offered in our office.
Time Management Is Key She proceeded to tell me that she has the training sessions on her calendar, but when … (4 comments)

Who's Your Safety Net? - 10/18/11 09:36 AM
"What's holding you back from doing what you need to do to be successful?" ...that's the question I asked.  After much beating around the bush, an extremely honest answer came back, "I think I'm afraid of success".
Sounds Crazy Right?  Not really.  Many new real estate agents are afraid of success.  While most of us are motivated to be successful...bills to pay, vacations to take, college to pay for...just to name a few, some agents just don't have that same motivation to become successful.  Even if they have a history of success in other fields, for some reason they seem to do everything within their … (2 comments)

Take the Offer and Move On - 10/13/11 09:15 AM
Far too often we've had sellers who say they are "motivated", however they seem to lose that motivation and start backtracking when an offer comes in that doesn't quite meet their specifications.
I'm Not Taking This Offer "This offer is insulting". "I can't accept this".  "This is absolutely ridiculous".  When an offer to purchase comes in that isn't that great, our first job is to talk our seller down from the ledge and have a conversation about the offer.  Secondly, we need to remind the seller that no offer is "insulting" (not having an offer is insulting), but every offer is an … (13 comments)
