wwwminothomecom: Pictorial Tour Of Roosevelt Park, Minot ND - 08/09/08 09:39 PM
I feel Roosevelt Park is Minot's most under acknowledged park and one of the least heralded attractions. This is a GREAT Park with something for the whole family. A part of the Park is the Roosevelt Park Zoo which I have acknowledged in an earlier post so this post will concentrate on the Park itself. Please enjoy, all 30 some pictures were taken on August 9th 2008.

wwwminothomecom: Look Out for that Wienie! - 08/08/08 03:04 PM

It was another Father - Son day. I try to have a Father/Son day and a Father/Daughter day at least once a week. Don't get me wrong, I am married to and live with my kids mother but I try to have at least one special day a week with each one. My father was a workaholic and I think just like some other "aholic" behaviors this can be hereditary. I did not get to know my dad until I was in my 40's and by then I really wasn't to interested anymore. Even though I think I'm … (6 comments)

wwwminothomecom: Oh NO Paris, what did you say! - 08/06/08 07:40 AM
Oh NO, she said what! I woke up this morning to the BIG news of a Paris Hilton statement. As I said I just woke up so I hope I have this right. There were two things that caught my attention. Number one was that she didn't like being compared to Barack Obama (am I wrong or doesn't she have that backward). Second and most disturbing is she called John McCain "White Haired Dude" twice. Oh NOOOOO!
The Press has twisted any and every thing they possibly can, and a few things that could not possibly, into race discrimination. Now Paris … (25 comments)

wwwminothomecom: Civil War, State vs State Humor - 08/04/08 04:45 PM
I used to travel a lot before I became a Realtor. I covered every inch of North Dakota calling on Churches to see if they were interested in a Pictorial Directory of their members. While ND boarders 3 other States and Canada I found it odd, but fun, that the residents on our Western boarder had a war of State jokes going with Montana.

At this point I can only remember one of the zingers which was told to me by a priest in Beach ND. Beach is a town right on the boarder with Montana. So the joke goes:

wwwminothomecom: It's pronounced My-Knot, not Minnow! - 08/02/08 09:30 AM
At least in North Dakota we pronounce Minot as My-Knot. Until a close friend of mine made fun of people pronouncing Minot as Minnow I had not really noticed. Now over the past two years I'm wondering if anyone outside of North Dakota knows how to pronounce it properly? Maybe in Minot Massachusetts they say Minnow.
Our town slogan might help: "Why Not Minot".  Wouldn't you know that our beloved soldiers (and I mean that, we truly love our soldiers and their families) at the Minot Air Force Base have a reply: Freezin is the Reason". Keep in mind these wonderful folks … (3 comments)

wwwminothomecom: Is Your Advertising Legal? - 08/01/08 07:27 PM
Are your Real Estate ads  legal? Prior to my recent change of brokers I checked with our State Real Estate Commission about some legalities of advertising. I found it unbelievably restrictive. My past broker did not contribute a dime to my advertising so I always felt why promote him? I was also curious about some activities that other agents used so I asked those questions as well. Instead of giving you the whole list I have just included a few. After reading them it should be clear that your broker owns your butt when it comes to advertising (at least in ND anyway).

wwwminothomecom: I Am Moving My Office and License - 07/30/08 10:22 AM
I have applied to move my license from my current broker to another broker here in town. Many factors worked into this decision and I'm sure I am making the correct choice. Also I am working on my brokers license and this change will eventually lead to me owning the agency, I hope. If you have questions about my future please feel free to call or email me. I will post more about it as the procedure progresses. Thanks,

wwwminothomecom: Re-Visiting a House - 07/27/08 11:45 AM
I have a buyer who has been getting discouraged due to the run/demand for houses up here in oil boom country. He has made offers on two houses (one a full price offer) and has not won either offer. For those of you who are new to my blog the area I work in, Western North Dakota, is growing in leaps and bounds. With the oil boom and the announcement that the Minot Air Force Base is expanding by 1200 troops and their families there is a buying frenzy between those who need a home and investors who want to rent … (3 comments)

wwwminothomecom: Realtors and Photography - 07/25/08 01:49 PM

I've noticed from many of the Active Rain communities "About Me" biographies I've read that a lot of us are photography hobbyists or professionals. I really enjoyed seeing the photography submitted to The North Dakota State Fair when I was there on Wednesday. I am a member of the local camera club, which I joined hoping someone could show me how to use my camera. I have noticed that a lot of people posting pictures to the MLS could use some lessons in photography. Don't you love those pictures of a toilet? My favorite is the shot of a corner … (9 comments)

wwwminothomecom: ND State Fair, Only 36 hours left! - 07/25/08 01:23 PM

Tomorrow is the last day of The North Dakota State Fair. Come up and have some fun (if you are in Canada come down and have some fun)! Our family had a GREAT time last Wednesday and I know you will too. I'm not sure but I think it closes at midnight on Saturday (7/26/2008). As always they will close with a fantastic fireworks display. Now check out my clowns below.

wwwminothomecom: Active Rain, Active Morning, has me thinking Insurance. - 07/23/08 07:35 AM

I'm writing this at 7 am this morning but the story really starts around 4 am. I'm not sure what woke me around 4 am but I could not help but notice that it was non-stop lightning, little or faint thunder. I layed half awake for the next hour until I got up and put the dog out and much to my amazement there was no rain yet the lightning was still non-stop and the lightning buy this time was getting loud. Then there was a BIG one, big enough to scare my 8 year old out of her bedroom … (3 comments)

wwwminothomecom: Say Anything Blog - 07/20/08 12:24 PM
I just came from a clients home as I was there to get his acceptance of an offer. We were causually visiting and he was telling me about all the time he spends blogging and helping a friend out with a novel. Much to my surprise he told me that his political blog has had a lot of national attention and in fact Rush had mentioned his blogg twice just last week. Rob also broke the story of national left wing talk show host Ed Schultz starting a bar fight and clocking a woman in the bar.
If you would like … (7 comments)

wwwminothomecom: Every One Loves A Parade - 07/20/08 12:12 PM
Yesterday Minot North Dakota had it's annual Fair Parade. Not quite the Massey Parade but tons of fun and candy for the kids. This year I think we had a smaller the usual parade with approximately 200 entries. Three full hours were more then enough for my kids (and me). As the name of the parade implies, "The Fair Parade", this is also the week of the State Fair held here in Minot ND. The fair runs for ten days and ends July 26th so you still have time to get here. It was pleasing to hear some of the performers … (7 comments)

wwwminothomecom: Kids Wierd Ideas - 07/18/08 09:21 PM
Like all kids, my 6 year old and my 8 year old (especially my always inventive 8 year old daughter) come up with some unique ways to entertain themselves.
I'm going to explain this one first because it makes the picture even sillyier. This was a game of: I will swing on my belly from the tree swing while holding a swimming noodle and try to bean you while you are in the pool trying to splash me. Got it? I'm pretty sure my son didn't.

wwwminothomecom: Real Estate Tax email going around. - 07/17/08 09:32 AM
The following is an email I received from a friend. It speculates as to what will happen with Real Estate related taxes depending upon who is elected. Again I will stress that it is shear speculation.

wwwminothomecom: Why Own a house when you can own HISTORY? - 07/15/08 03:08 PM
Why own a house when you can own a Historic Home. This home was built on this location 125 years ago. It is one of the oldest homes in our fair City and most certainly one of the most dreamed of homes by those who have had the pleasure to walk through it. Just look at that 3 story tower that houses the Master Bedroom at the top and tell me you can not imagine it being YOUR bedroom. This awesome structure has many upgrades including central air and electrical updates. While the interior is currently set for retail it still … (2 comments)

wwwminothomecom: Rockin The Bakken! - 07/13/08 10:03 PM
Don't you wish this was your family photo? These two old Norwegian brothers struck oil in 52 and are making more millionaires in North Dakota today then anyone would ever believe.

I decided to investigate how the biggest oil find of the century (or ever) became known as "The Bakken Formation". Well meet Henry and Harry Bakken along with ?? their mom??. For the almost kinda sorta fascinating story click on the logo below:

What caught my attention is somewhere in the article (part 1 or 2) is that this oil is 2 miles down. Now how did these … (1 comments)

wwwminothomecom: Hang Out With Our Dik Dik! - 07/11/08 12:47 PM
When talking about BIG attractions there is nothing like our Dik Dik. Hang with the animals in Minot. Visit The Roosevelt Park Zoo and see our Dik Dik this weekend or any day the Zoo is open. Our Dik Dik is only 2' long (average) so it's not the worlds biggest Dik Dik but for many it's the only Dik Dik they may ever see!

The Kirks Dik Dik looks like a tiny deer. For more information on the Kirks Dik Dik visit the Roosevelt Park Zoo in person or at their website http://rpzoo.com/animals/view/Kirks_Dik-Dik .

wwwminothomecom: Yea! We Found It!!! - 07/02/08 09:50 PM
If you have ever had buyers that looked at every house in and near their price range three times, consume nearly every day for three weeks, buyers with more then one "very" active child, low-ball several listings, ask for the Sun Moon & Stars, then you know why I'm celebrating tonight. We just had offer number umpteen accepted! Now I know we haven't closed yet but by God I'm celebrating and I'm sure they are too, so tip one to us if you will,

wwwminothomecom: SEX & LAUGHTER - 06/29/08 07:51 AM
We all know that sex seems to be used to sell everything. I've seen several posts on Active Rain this last week about being "sexy" in Real Estate and of course my favorite was the post with the Hottie that came with the house (even if one contributer deemed her demonic looking").
But what about those of us that aren't so hot (anymore). Now when I walk past a mirror I wonder "How did that happen?". Every day I declare I'm going to get that American Gladiator body back (yea that will happen right after my hair grows back).
On to … (10 comments)
