Have you driven by the Mallinckrodt building on Ridge Road near Lake Avenue and wondered what they are like inside?  Does it feel like the former convent it once was, or the school it was converted to?

The Winnetka Park District has a wonderful program called Tour de Winnetka - a healthy and fun way for you and your family to visit the Winnetka parks.  There are four self-guided tours ranging from 45 minutes to 2 1/2 hours depending on how much time you spend at each park.
Packets detailing suggested tours and information about the parks are available at the Winnetka Park District office at 540 Hibbard Road (847-501-5779.)  The packet contains tour maps, park guides and park history.

In Wilmette, as of today (July 18, 2010) there are currently 178 homes for sale - these homes are priced from a low of $270,000 to a high of $4,195,000.  The most expensive home is very near the beach, but not actually on the water.
Wilmette is more affordable than Winnetka, Kenilworth and Glencoe - in fact, 117 of the 178 homes for sale are listed under $1 million.  Some are new construction homes, but the majority are older homes, many of which have been substantially renovated and updated.

Winnetka's Sidewalk Sale starts this Friday and continues Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. with a little extra pizazz this year.  There will be the usual great bargains to be found in the three shopping areas as well as some New Orleans jazz music.

There must have been a fire sale event in Wilmette in June - almost twice as many houses sold than in the previous month of May.  Winnetka saw an increase of 54% in sales, Northfield increased sales by 200% (2 in May, 10 in June.)  Glencoe was the only village that saw a decrease in total sales, from 13 in May to 9 in June.
However, Wilmette recorded 52 closed sales of single family residences in June - a huge increase from 27 in May.  Winnetka - 28 closed sales      … (2 comments)

It's that time again - fireworks, barbecues, parades, block parties and bratwurst.  For Winnetka, it's their 123rd celebration of the Fourth of July!  Weather will be fair with a high of 87 degrees and a 30% chance of thunderstorms.  There will be lots going on all day long - here's a rundown for Sunday, July 4:

Working with a lender before you start looking for a home is one of the most important things you can do.  Great advice here:

     The headlines of an Associated Press article found on MSNBC.COM this morning shouted "MORTGAGE RATES AT LOWEST IN FIVE DECADES".  This article reported that the last time we saw rates this good was in the 1950's.
      But also reported within the article?   Low rates are still not causing much of a stir amongst consumers.  They're just not taking action.
