Green Bay Cycles - Welcome to Winnetka - 01/26/11 03:26 PM
Green Bay Cycles - Welcome to Winnetka Since Alberto's Bicycles left Winnetka over 15 years ago, we've been without a dedicated bicycle shop (with the exception of T.L. Fritts Sporting Goods which carries bikes.)  So now a former employee of Alberto's has opened Green Bay Cycles at the coveted spot where the dress boutique, Young in Heart, used to be. Co-owners Larry Faulkner and Sam Mack opened the store in December and have been keeing busy with bicycle repairs and maintenance, and are looking forward to warmer months when people will begin purchasing bikes.  They carry two main brands of everyday … (1 comments)

What is a Home Sale contingency? Can I still See the House? - 01/26/11 10:08 AM
When you purchase a home in Winnetka, Wilmette or Kenilworth, your contract will have contingencies in it that you may want to use.  Almost universal, are the home inspection and attorney approval contingencies.  Less common is the contingency of a home sale, that protects you if you want to buy but must sell first.
Here is a great and simple explanation of what contingencies are and how they work.

Where to Get Pizza on the North Shore - Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe, and Northfield - 01/23/11 03:29 PM
Where to Get Pizza on the North Shore Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe, and Northfield

I gave up cooking on Friday nights a long time ago - after a week of working and making dinners, I just got pooped out.  Over time, Friday night became Pizza night and it takes a major holiday or event to get us off that. There are lots of good pizzerias on the North Shore, many of which we have tried, although we always seem to go back to a few favorites. Take your own night off and find  favorite pizza - here's a … (3 comments)

As a member of the large and influential group called Baby Boomers, I have often worried that my children will not reap the benefits of home ownership as I have.  Yet real estate values in almost all parts of the country has tumbled over the past two years and we don't want them to miss out on a great opportunity.
If you have been wondering how to help you children buy a home and what the tax implications are, please read on:

We baby boomers have always been a headstrong bunch of pioneers, and nothing about that … (1 comments)

This is What Happens When Your Overprice Your Home (Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe and Northfield) - 01/12/11 06:01 PM
This is What Happens When You Overprice Your Home Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe, and Northfield The importance of pricing your home properly has never been more critical.  I firmly believe that a home should never be overpriced, and at the present time we have too many houses to choose from. What better way to be overlooked, dismissed and even snickered at than overpricing when there are so many other options for buyers.   Sellers are tempted to "test the market" and I say those days are over.  Testing the market will only test your patience, determination, and sanity.  There is no … (2 comments)

Development Opportunity in Northfield, IL - 01/11/11 02:06 PM
Development Opportunity in Northfield, IL Hibbard Road Gardens at 62 Hibbard Road (at the intersection of Winnetka and Hibbard Roads) has been for sale for slightly over a year. But the recent price reduction for this 3.67 acre parcel really makes it something worth looking at.   It originally came on the market in December 2009 for $4,950,000, and is now listed for $2,375,000.  The land is zoned for residential (R-1) with no commercial or multi-use allowed, and according to the listing agent, it would appear that the village of Northfield would approve at least 4 homes on the property.  One … (0 comments)

Shopping in Winnetka - 01/09/11 03:50 PM
Shopping in Winnetka, IL

There are just some things that need to be purchased in a big box store - electronics, computers, brand names, or outdoor equipment.  But for almost everything else, there is a store in Winnetka that can meet your needs.  In fact, Winnetka has 50 retail stores scattered throughout its three shopping areas:  Hubbard Woods, East Elm, and West Elm.   Shopping locally has been touted for years as a way cut down on driving, keep the money and taxes in town, and discover hidden treasures that no mall could possibly have (or if it did, you'd … (0 comments)

The ratio of list price to sell priceis still low for the North Shore area - this means that homes are overpriced and selling for considerably less.  Wilmette's average for December was 88% which is the highest ratio, next was Winnetka at 84%.  … (1 comments)
