glencoe: Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Northfield October Home Sales - 11/08/09 05:54 PM
Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Northfield October Home Sales - homes sales are down for the month of October compared to September and August. But that's not unusual, given the usual end of the year slowdown. Prices continue to dip and houses on the market for the longest period of time sustained the (0 comments)
glencoe: Wiley Coyotes in Winnetka and North Shore Suburbs - 10/31/09 04:48 PM
After reading about the tragic death of a young folk singer in Canada from an attack by two coyotes, I am reminded that these wild animals should be treated with caution and never, ever fed. These amazing animals have been thriving in our urban/suburban environement. Because they look like the famiily (6 comments)
glencoe: Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, and Glencoe - Foreclosues and Short Sales - 10/10/09 04:15 PM
Just a few years ago, the bewildering words "short sale" were starting to pop up in our realtor meetings. No one really bothered to learn much about them since things like that didn't happen on the North Shore. Maybe in Evanston, Chicago, or the south suburbs.
Not so today. (2 comments)
glencoe: September House Sales for Winnetka, Wilmette, Northfield, Kenilworth & Glencoe - 10/01/09 03:15 PM
Another month, another set of stats. Sales are still below average (what is average nowadays, anyway?) Sale prices have continued with downward pressure - except when priced properly. As I've shown month after month, competitive price = quick sale and more profit. It's really that simple.

glencoe: August Real Estate Sales for Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth and Glencoe - 09/01/09 03:18 PM
The August real estate sales for Winnetka,Wilmette, Northfield, Kenilworth and Glencoe have dipped and jumped like a roller coaster. From month to month there is no steady increase or decrease that I can make any predictions about.
The one thing I noticed in Winnetka is that 2/3 of the sold homes (0 comments)
The historically low interest rates that we have been seeing in the last few years apply only to "conforming" loans, or those less than $417,000. If you need to borrow more than that amount, your are (0 comments)
glencoe: June Market Report for Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth and Glencoe - 07/07/09 05:00 PM
Things are looking up! Sales for Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth and Glencoe are definitely higher than comparable sales in May (see May Market Report.)
But if sales are up, what about prices? I've including something different in this report - the percentage of sale price to original list price. Some of (2 comments)

glencoe: April Closed Sales in Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, and Glencoe - 05/04/09 02:59 PM
April was another nasty-weather month and I wonder how much it affected the sales of homes. Certainly, the Spring Housing Market has gotten off to a slow start. Here are some closed sale stats for the month:
Winnetka: 2 closed sales
265 Poplar $740,000
331 Linden $1,250,000
Wilmette: 10 closed sales (0 comments)
glencoe: Recent Sales in Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth & Glencoe - 04/23/09 04:55 PM
I'm still wondering where all you buyers are. . . a few of you have stepped up and bought a home, taking advantage of the large inventory and deflated prices. The majority of homes on the North Shore (Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, and Glencoe) are competitively priced to sell with new listings (0 comments)
glencoe: What's Selling on the North Shore? - 04/13/09 12:05 PM
2009 First Quarter
In this year's first quarter, there were 71 sales of single family homes in Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, and Glencoe. The breakdown above is shown in the number of units sold by price range. I think this is interesting because although it shows a 67% decrease in the total sales (0 comments)
glencoe: Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, and Glencoe Closed Sales February 09 - 03/27/09 01:37 PM
Last month I wrote a post (http://activerain.com/blogsview/923418/Market-Stats-for-Winnetka-Kenilworth-Wilmette-IL) about closed home sales for Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth and Glencoe. I found it interesting that even in the current economic climate, sales were exactly the same (22 single family homes) for January 2008 as for January 2009.
Guess what? Closed sales for February 2009 (0 comments)
glencoe: Wow - What a Steal in Wilmette, Illinois - 02/25/09 05:54 PM
It's not news that Chicago's tony north shore suburbs of Kenilworth, Winnetka, Wilmette and Glencoe have been seeing a number of foreclosures. We always thought we were immune and somehow protected from the greater ravages of the economic downturn. But slowly, the MLS is revealing some disturbing area news.

Today I attended a company seminar with all the usual rah-rah, updates, and praise for top producers. I liked everything I saw - especially the soon-to-be debut of Baird & Warner's new consumer friendly website, www.bairdwarner.com.
We also had a special speaker, real estate coach and trainer Rich Casto, who's been (1 comments)

Older homes, which are abundant in the North Shore, constantly need upkeep and ongoing maintenance. If your home is older than 10 years, you may need to invest in some weatherproofing maintenance.
Finally going "green" is a popular thing - not just something to be joked about. And it's also popular (1 comments)
glencoe: TOXIC PLASTIC - Help Me Clean Up the North Shore - 11/13/08 03:59 PM
Plastic everywhere - dangling from trees, cartwheeling across streets, stuck in bushes, smushed into the ground and strung like so many holiday lights along freeway fences. And that's just what we can see - but all of it goes somewhere and that place is our planet's oceans. The majority of the plastic (1 comments)

There is no denying that statistics are cold, hard facts. Usually, they can be interpreted only one way since numbers don't lie (at least that's what my long-suffering algebra teachers told me.) So I pull numbers every few months to get a reality check on the market - is what I (2 comments)

Real estate news has been somewhat dismal for the past few months with homes sales trending downward and a resulting glut of homes for sale. As a realtor, I've wondered where have all the buyers gone? Lots to choose from and falling prices makes for an easy decision.

glencoe: North Shore Chicago - How Are We Faring? - 10/16/08 05:29 PM
A client wrote me yesterday that he had just returned from a meeting of economists last week and was disturbed by their predictions. They had made a rather convincing argument that we will not see the bottoming out of this debacle until approximately 18 months after foreclosures peak. Since they have not peaked (1 comments)
