Did home values fall this year in your city?
Chances are they did.
Nineteen of Orange County’s 34 cities had decreases in taxable property values this year, meaning that tax revenues owed to those towns also will be less in the 2010-11 tax year, the Orange County Assessor’s Office has reported.
The declines are based in the main on falling real estate values, with most of that being homes.

Short sales up 74% in SoCal region - 07/13/10 12:55 AM
During the first five months of 2010, the four-county region had 12,906 short
sales, up from 7,405 in the same period of 2009, SoCal MLS figures show.
Short sales are increasing as lenders become more amenable to approving
deals rather than letting homes go through a costly foreclosure.
Here's how those numbers break down in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties:
•Riverside County had 3,444 short sales this year, the second-highest number in the region. That's up 116% from 2009, when the county had 1,593 short sales.

Congress Approves Tax Credit Extension - 07/01/10 08:18 PM
Approximately 180,000 U.S. homebuyers — and nearly 18,000 in California — just got a reprieve from a deadline to close escrow by Wednesday or lose out on a federal tax credit of up to $8,000.
Thousands of California homebuyers now have a shot at piggybacking the federal credit with up to $10,000 off their state taxes as well.
The U.S. Senate signed off late Wednesday on extending the tax credit deadline until Sept. 30. The House had approved the measure the day before. News services are reporting that President Obama is expected to sign the extension into law shortly.
