homeowners: Number of Homeowner Tax Appeals On The Rise - 08/06/09 12:34 AM
The County Clerk Board of Supervisors estimated that homeowner appeals filed last month may have jumped as much as 85% from last year.  As of Thursday the office had received 1,854 tax filings, compared to less than 1,800 that were filed in July 2008.  
The county mailed out the assessment notices for the 2009-10 tax year in late June and began receiving appeals on July 2.  The deadline to appeal the 2009-10 assessments is September 15 and the county said that the number of appeals could double in that time.

If you own real estate in Orange County be prepared to receive a notice soon stating how much property tax you can expect to pay next December and April.  Notices could start appearing as soon as this week and every homeowner in Orange County should receive their notice by next Friday. If you haven’t received your notice by the end of this week, contact the Assessor’s Office at 714-834-2727. The statements could alert some owners that they need to appeal assessments to lower their taxes.
