UCF economist: Recovery to be slow, gradual
OCALA, Fla. - Sept. 20, 2010 - The good news is, the worst recession since the Great Depression is over, an economist told business leaders in Ocala. The bad news is the path to recovery looks like it will be slow and gradual, according to Sean Snaith, director of the Institute of Economic Competitiveness at the University of Central Florida.Snaith spoke at the 52nd annual meeting and luncheon of the Ocala Marion County Economic Development Corp. at Hilton Ocala. He said forget about traditional depictions of peaks, recessions, troughs and recoveries shaped like the letters V, … (0 comments)

Shadow Inventory - 09/21/10 04:09 PM
Where is the shadow inventory?
WASHINGTON - Sept. 20, 2010 - For the last year, the real estate industry has been talking about shadow inventory and the coming flood of distressed properties. Where are they? Here's what's happening, according to a recent paper by Alan Mallach, a senior fellow the Brookings Institution:

· Banks are getting better at managing short sales.

· Investors are aggressively buying up properties, sometimes in bulk, directly from the banks or at courthouse auctions so they don't … (1 comments)

I'll take it as good news! - 09/07/10 03:47 PM

Economy's looking up - for now
WASHINGTON - Sept. 7, 2010 - Never has mediocre looked so good.A steady flow of not-entirely-terrible economic news has eased worries of renewed recession and shifted the political spotlight from the Federal Reserve to the White House."The August data we've been getting has been encouraging. ... It's very likely that the economy continues to move forward in the coming months," said economist Bruce Kasman of J.P. Morgan. The economic news increasingly has a bipolar cast to it. One day, a downward revision to the second-quarter growth rate makes a double-dip recession look like a real … (2 comments)

Hurricane Season - 09/01/10 04:57 PM
As we have hurricanes brewing in the Atlantic I am remined of my last hurricane season in South Florida. It really made our decision to move to Tallahassee easy. The emontional toll the preparation and actual hurricane takes on a family is unmeasurable and thats even if you don't get any real estate damage from the storm. Here is a link to help everyone get a plan together to help ease some of the stress. http://www.floridadisaster.org/
Stay safe this Hurricane Season!!
