The day after Memorial Day… - 05/31/11 12:06 PM
Memorial day for some is nothing more than a day off work, others like myself it is a day to remember those soldiers that have falling in the line of duty for my freedom. We are lucky here in Portland to have the Willamette National Cemetery, a cemetery dedicated to thousands of veterans from all wars. There are over 130,000 presently buried at Willamette National Cemetery.
Now, what is an awesome site is on Memorial Day weekend, every one of those graves is given a flag. That is a lot of work and what is also a lot of work is … (11 comments)

Focus and your target - 05/30/11 11:44 AM
I’ve written other articles on marketing, your target audience, niche marketing and our aim. But, what about you, how focused are you on you? You may see your target, you may be spending thousands on adverting, but unless you stay focused yourself,  no amount of marketing will ever matter.
See my son? He isn’t focused on a video game, he isn’t thinking about what he is going to have for dinner, he is focused on one thing and one thing only, how he is going to get that batter struck out. He is so focused on that pitch and where it … (20 comments)

OK, waves of maroon are beautiful this time of year - 05/29/11 10:12 AM

As we drive through many parts of Washington County right now your eyes are taken over with the sea of maroon with fields and fields of flowers. A beautiful sight for sure, but there is one problem, what are they? A lot of times there are signs along the road saying what a flower is, but for some reason, not on these and despite spending hours online trying to figure it out, I am still at a loss to what kind of flower they are. This leaves me to relax, take my allergy medicine and just sit back and enjoy … (8 comments)

Thank you to those who gave your life so we could have ours in freedom - 05/28/11 02:05 AM

I would personally like to thank those who gave their lives so I could have the freedoms that I have today. But, as we know this weekend is to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep my freedom. I would also like to thank those families that lost these loved ones and let them know that it was not in vein and I thank those service men every morning when I wake up for the freedom they have given me and pray we never lose another service man or woman in the fight to keep those freedoms that … (41 comments)

Time to laugh at my youngest and pretend we can’t understand half of what she is saying - 05/26/11 02:31 AM

Yep, my youngest just lost her to front teef (Teeth) for those of you that can’t speak 7 year old with no front teeth. I loved this age with my other kids, though didn’t look great for pictures, it did mean that I could have some fun with them when we asked them to say certain words and then pretend we can’t understand them.

How to avoid the BLUE TARP discount when selling your Oregon home - 05/24/11 12:12 PM
How to avoid the BLUE TARP discount when selling your Oregon home! What, you don’t know what the blue tarp discount is? The blue tarp discount is that immediate $10,000-$15,000 price reduction a buyer has in their offer on your home because of that ugly blue tarp on your roof that is keeping the rain out, because your roof seems to have a hole in it.
Now, there are times this can’t be avoided, especially if you have had a large item come crashing through your roof, but if it is just small leak it can be fixed and usually if … (13 comments)

The sun has finally arrived in Oregon and with it, it brought some beauty - 05/24/11 02:14 AM

The last six months have been wet, very wet! Our rivers are at flood stages and our patience with the rain is at an end here in the Pacific Northwest. I think out of the last 150 days we had some 135 days of rain. WAY TOO MUCH if you ask me and my family who like to be outside and do outdoor things. But, finally we got our son and it looks like the flowers were waiting for it as well.

Are you missing your target? - 05/22/11 11:30 AM

There are lots of reasons to be missing your target, but do you know why you are? I’ve had two coaches in my life and sometimes they see things differently about my career than I do. That is why I hired them, they look at my business to see what I can do better, looking from the outside in. Like my daughter her, she didn’t realize that she was closing her eyes and it has made the difference between a strike and a huge hit! So, here is to that huge hit and to my real estate coaches who have … (17 comments)

I have my eye on you! - 05/21/11 10:35 AM

Most of the time when you get within 5 feet of a robin, they would be gone, not this guy, he was going to stay right there! But, he was going to keep his eye on me, just to make sure I wasn’t going to do anything other than take his picture. I do appreciate him letting me do that, as I do like taking pictures of birds. (Maybe he knew that – lol)

Sometimes I even get jealous of what my clients have - 05/20/11 05:22 PM

This was the view yesterday afternoon from one of my client’s homes. The sun has been missing here in Oregon and though the rain has made for some amazing snow levels on Mt. Hood, actually seeing it from Portland lately has been something we just haven’t been able to do. But, boy the sun was out yesterday and Mt. Hood couldn’t help show herself off and I couldn’t help but be jealous of this view.

You know you are in trouble at the DEQ when this is the guy in the line in front of you - 05/11/11 01:47 AM
It seems to be coming up on that time again where I need to take my car through the DEQ hoping that it will pass the emissions test. Crossing your fingers as you wait in line for what seems like forever, waiting for the thumbs up or the sorry, hope you don’t get a ticket on the way home because we can’t give you tags for this, I just won’t pass.
But, when this is the guy in front of you, you do have to wonder how long the wait is really.

With all the recent rain here in Oregon, I believe we are at 56 out of the last 65 days, land slides are becoming a huge problem. Especially for those who build upon rivers and mountain sides.
Though they have a great view, the place where they built is slowly being washed away. Now, my parents have been lucky, they have the view, but no signs of errosion yet. Now, their neighbors on the other hand, have loss the use of their deck by order of the county.

Real estate is like a balancing act, but it is so worth it for me - 05/07/11 01:51 PM

Do you think of your real estate career as a balancing act? Trying to juggle, listings, buyers, family and life? I know I certainly do, but when I get to the end of the path knowing that I successfully balanced it all that day I feel a little bit of self satisfaction just like my daughter does here in this picture. She could have taken the sidewalk, but you know it was a lot more fun and exciting this way, that isn’t for everyone and either is sales, but for me, like my daughter “I LOVE IT!”

Sometimes you just can’t wait for the clouds to move - 05/05/11 11:22 PM

As I hear a lot agents complain about not having enough business I also see them doing nothing to change it. To make it in this business or any sales business you can’t wait for the clouds to part, you need to make your own sunshine or in our case here let it rain! I’m not going to wait for the business to find me, I’m going to go out today and find it and make my own sunshine! Won’t you join me?

Oregon started a venture that has now lasted 11 years! - 05/04/11 10:25 AM
Eleven years ago on May 3rd, 2000 in a small rural Oregon town a game of sorts, a worldwide scavenger hunt had begun. You see on that day back in 2000 “The Original Stash” was placed and since then 11 years has passed and some 1.3 million other stashes has been placed and a plaque has been placed next to the “The Original Stash” and the world wide phenomena of Geocaching had begun.

Hear is our family out Geocaching and we have to say it is a great experience for any family to try as it really bonds you … (4 comments)

One man’s shack is another man’s castle - 05/03/11 01:33 PM

As we were driving through the county the other day looking at a possible listing that I got a call on we came across what was clearly someone’s castle at one time. (Not taking the listing, but that is for another story) My kids thought it was so neat and wondered why we didn’t have one. I had to remind them that we don’t have any big trees in our yard and the only ones close are under and HOA that just won’t allow that! But, they now have ideas for our backyard. They won’t tell me what they are, … (23 comments)

Hope you don’t mind me saying what a nice body you have… VROOM! - 05/02/11 10:46 AM

Yes, I know it is un-PC to tell you that you have such a nice body, but take it for what it is, a compliment. Because your lines are beautiful, you are something that I desire and I want for myself. Who helped you? How much did it cost to get looking that way? Wow, is all I can say to all your hard work you put in to such a car.

You see, I’ve been going to a lot of car shows lately looking for idea, help, inspiration so I too can have my 1951 … (25 comments)

Sorry, Starbucks, you just aren’t this beautiful or I would be writing about you now! - 05/01/11 11:59 PM

Starbucks sells coffee, but Coffee Creek in Oregon City, Oregon of South End Rd gives me peace and a chance to bring my camera out. Now, this isn’t a place you can really stop, sit and enjoy the falls, but it does give those who live in the area and drive South End Rd every day something beautiful to look at when going to and from work.

That sounds weird, what is it dad? Son, that was what freedom used to sound like! - 05/01/11 11:07 AM
While watching my daughters baseball game the other day there came an unusual sound from the sky one that I had heard at air shows many times, but my son didn’t recognize. It was the sound of two engines from a World War II bomber.
Now, we weren’t sure why it was going around in circles around us over and over, but we didn’t notice a film crew packing up as we were leaving. I have a strange feeling that it will be on an episode of TNT’s “Leverage” next season.
I love watching “Leverage” even though it is supposed … (6 comments)
