Why would I say I love the number 5? Well, today the number five means so many thing, starting with today January 3rd, 2012. You see today is my 5 year anniversary on Activerain! Yes, 5 years of commenting, blogging and friendships.
But, let’s look at how the number five goes way beyond this 5th anniversary today! One thing I love about Activerain is making new connections with other members around the country. One way of meeting these new people is finding new bloggers that I haven’t discovered yet and getting to know them through their posts. Also, another way is new people finding my posts and then commenting on my posts.
When someone does that, I will then check out their blog and comment on their posts and hopefully they have shared something about themselves that lets me know who they are and what they are about. Each and every blog post is a small look into … (7 comments)

blogging: OK, I admit it, I got overwhelmed and forgot a few steps in getting readers to my blog

Since December 8th, I have had a very tough time blogging and I even really stopped using Twitter and Facebook. But, what that really did is lowered my readership and even lost me a few local Twitter followers.
As many of you know, I’m not all about getting the most followers, but getting the most local followers. The only way to do that is to write about local events, family, hiking, restaurants and other local happenings. As one of the top bloggers on Activerain and even before I was one of the top bloggers there is something that I’ve always used my blog for and that is to get my clients more services for a discounted price or free! How, do you ask? Simple, I use my leverage and Google juice to bring more clients to other people in my network.

blogging: Ask for help now, not when it is too late!

I love real estate. I love teaching and I love social media, but often when I’m asked how to use it, it is because someone is about to leave the business and they are really too late to the game and just scratching and clawing for a way to stay.
Why not ask before that point? Many people are volunteering to help.Check out the Activerain Ambassadors, these are people that want to give back to the community, but only can help those who want to be helped.

For the past two years, I have had pretty much a daily routine, one post in the morning, on in the evening, but this last Saturday afternoon I posted a “I don’t feel like typing Saturdays” post and then went for over 48 hours without a post.
Well, starting this morning, I started getting calls. The first one was more of a question if Activerain was working properly and didn’t ask where I was, but the next four calls all asked if everything was alright since I hadn’t posted in a couple days. Why is that most people leave real estate as a career? It is because they can’t stand not knowing if they are going to be able to pay their mortgage next month? Everyday I wake up and realize that I have one of the greatest tools right at my finger tips and unless I have lost my internet connection, Activerain is right there waiting for me. But, when I started over 2 years and some 1200 posts ago, I was just looking for a way to take my farm letter and make it online. I just accidentally stumbled upon Activerain and boy, am I glad I did.

blogging: Funny, I didn’t think you needed to blog

A year ago we had an office meeting and my principle broker wanted me to talk to the rest of the agents about blogging and what it could do for their business. During that meeting I was amazed at how many agents told me that they didn't need to blog, they were busy enough.
Well, 2008 has ended and there were months that I had more sales than some of these agents had all year and those sales were mostly from my blog. Now, 2009 has arrived and our offices have become one office and our 34 agents have become 9 agents.

Why do I say this? Well, I have been in a slump lately with blog ideas because I was stuck in the house because of snow for two weeks and I needed something to come out. I then thought about Benjamin Franklin as I watched a special about him and his life.
You see he had many ideas, but not all of them worked and even a lot of the ones that did, we never saw. Why was this? Well, in a nutshell, a lot of these were good ideas, but they just didn't have any practical use in the real world. … (8 comments)

blogging: Ahhhh – My blog well has run dry and I’m getting depressed

Yes, the "blog post Zen master", as I've been called by a couple of you, now has no more posts saved in his Activerain post well. You see, in the past, I have boasted that I have anywhere between 20-40 posts pre-written, ready to post at any time.
But, today that well ran dry! I wasn't sure what to do. I went to the gym and that certainly didn't help, so ended up watching cartoons with the kids. Then I went to my room and fell asleep on the bed. I'm showing clear signs of depression.

My daughter is in the 4th grade, and as many of you know, my wife and I homeschool our kids. However, my daughter has started to not like a certain subject...Compositions! I have to admit, in school, neither did I, but I told her that everyday, when I blog, that is exactly what I'm doing. I'm writing a new composition. Everyday, she sees how much I enjoy it, so I made a deal with her.
