blogging: I love the number 5! (Thank you) - 01/03/12 05:42 PM
Why would I say I love the number 5? Well, today the number five means so many thing, starting with today January 3rd, 2012. You see today is my 5 year anniversary on Activerain! Yes, 5 years of commenting, blogging and friendships. But, let’s look at how the number five goes way beyond this 5th anniversary today! Back in June I took a trip to Seattle to speak at Raincamp and I loved it as I got to meet many new friends, but there was one thing I didn’t like… The pictures, you see, I realized how much weight I had

blogging: I know you are watching me and I am also watching you! - 12/17/11 05:29 PM
One thing I love about Activerain is making new connections with other members around the country. One way of meeting these new people is finding new bloggers that I haven’t discovered yet and getting to know them through their posts. Also, another way is new people finding my posts and then commenting on my posts. When someone does that, I will then check out their blog and comment on their posts and hopefully they have shared something about themselves that lets me know who they are and what they are about. Each and every blog post is a small look into

blogging: OK, I admit it, I got overwhelmed and forgot a few steps in getting readers to my blog - 07/06/10 10:49 PM
Since December 8th, I have had a very tough time blogging and I even really stopped using Twitter and Facebook. But, what that really did is lowered my readership and even lost me a few local Twitter followers. As many of you know, I’m not all about getting the most followers, but getting the most local followers. The only way to do that is to write about local events, family, hiking, restaurants and other local happenings. Getting followers from around the country, unless they are planning to move to Beaverton, isn’t going to do much for my business. (Or

blogging: Are you using your blogging to get more for your clients! If not, you should be! - 06/26/10 01:39 AM
As one of the top bloggers on Activerain and even before I was one of the top bloggers there is something that I’ve always used my blog for and that is to get my clients more services for a discounted price or free! How, do you ask? Simple, I use my leverage and Google juice to bring more clients to other people in my network. One of the things the power of Activerain has always done for me is produced a lot of SEO and because of that people seek me out and try to get me to advertise

blogging: Activerain has made me so busy that I’m losing valuable social media time - 03/27/10 11:43 PM
By Todd Clark (Broker/Sales Coach) 503-524-9494 What? Social media time, what the heck it that? That is the time I used to spend on Facebook, Twitter and Activerain. Though I still get plenty of leads from Activerain, the problem actually came when I had so many leads from Activerain that I had to either service my clients, or enjoy telling people that I was out with clients, or taking classes to make me a better Realtor. Either way, something had to give. I’ve hired a transaction coordinator, but that only gave me more time to find clients from Activerain

blogging: I love to talk politics, but you don’t do it at work or in a public forum if you can’t handle the heat - 03/22/10 09:23 AM
By Todd Clark (Broker/Sales Coach) 503-524-9494 As many of you know I was a DJ for 18 years one of the things that comes with becoming a DJ is learning how to debate. (That is if you want to get in to talk radio.) But, you have to be willing to listen to both sides and you have to learn how to not raise your voice, the minute you do that, everyone knows you have lost your cool and really have nothing left to argue about. The key to a good debate is to keep a cool head, know your

blogging: Why do some agents stop blogging? - 01/30/10 09:50 PM
By Todd Clark (Broker/Sales Coach) 503-524-9494 Two years ago, when I taught my first class on blogging, I had a student… in fact she was the person that brought me in to teach the class on Activerain, because she saw I was getting business from it. Like many others I’ve taught, she put up one post and never really got back to it. A year later I was in her office and asked why she wasn’t blogging. She said, it takes too much time and I didn’t get any business from it. I said “You did one

blogging: Is just blogging to get business enough anymore to survive this market? - 01/17/10 09:53 AM
Is just blogging to get business enough anymore to survive this market? In my opinion, no! I blog … a lot and I get a lot of business from it, especially in the form of referrals both received and sent. But, is it really enough anymore if I want to survive until the market recovers and sellers are happy to sell again and the foreclosure or short sales are the exception to the rule rather than the norm? Over the past couple weeks I’ve noticed since I’ve stopped posting to Twitter and Facebook my links to my blog articles,

blogging: I've talked about voice recognition software before, but if you have an IPhone listen up! - 01/03/10 08:57 PM
As many of you know I was using voice recognition software and had a reserve of 40-75 blog posts ready to go at any given time. My down fall was I didn't have them backed up and when my car was stolen with my laptop in the trunk, I lost all my pre-written posts. (I've learned from that lesson and every Monday my computer will now be backed up) But, what I was doing was recording my blog posts and blog post ideas on a voice recorder on my phone, downloading them to my computer at night, and then

blogging: It was a little to close. I almost got to the point of blogging and being online too much - 11/01/09 11:54 PM
Can you blog and email too much? Well, today my computer tried to give me a warning that I may do exactly that. It tried to burn down my house, but luckily for me I was on the computer when the battery light came on and I decided to check what was wrong and this is what I saw. This is the wire that decided to short out and try to catch fire! Remember to turn off your computers when they are not in use or the outcome can be very different.

blogging: Do you need a call to action in your blog or does passive blogging get you leads? - 08/30/09 07:54 PM
Many people find agents to be pushy and aggressive. In some cases I agree, they are right, but there are plenty of agents like myself that prefer to let the business find me rather than trying to be in your face about it. I do door knock, but I rarely talk real estate when I do, I try to find out what their concerns are about the neighborhood. But, what about blogging, I was told for years that if you print a post card, a flyer, and a radio ad, you better have a call to action at the

blogging: Can I make it in today’s real estate market without a website? - 08/28/09 08:40 AM
That is the question I’m asking myself today. I’m trying to figure out if I drop my website and focus more on blogging, where 80% of my new business came from in the last 2 years, can I produce even more? You see I think with Activerain outside blogs, each blog is really its own website. Now, I am foreseeing some problems. Mainly with the width of some widgets and other applications I have on my site, but if I can figure out how to get around those limitations, I am seriously considering dropping my website and adding 4

blogging: Ask for help now, not when it is too late! - 08/03/09 02:25 PM
I love real estate. I love teaching and I love social media, but often when I’m asked how to use it, it is because someone is about to leave the business and they are really too late to the game and just scratching and clawing for a way to stay. Why not ask before that point? Many people are volunteering to help. Check out the Activerain Ambassadors, these are people that want to give back to the community, but only can help those who want to be helped. Last week I was helping with a class put on

blogging: Thanks for checking up on me… I’m alright - 07/08/09 02:18 AM
For the past two years, I have had pretty much a daily routine, one post in the morning, on in the evening, but this last Saturday afternoon I posted a “I don’t feel like typing Saturdays” post and then went for over 48 hours without a post. Well, starting this morning, I started getting calls. The first one was more of a question if Activerain was working properly and didn’t ask where I was, but the next four calls all asked if everything was alright since I hadn’t posted in a couple days. Two asked if I had actually run out

blogging: I don’t need no stinking website, I got your website right here! - 05/12/09 11:27 PM
The new age of the web is here, and though many still don’t have websites, blogs, Facebook, or Twitter accounts, they are still making it in this business just fine on referrals. But what about those of us that thrive on what the web have given us and know that in 15 years we too, can live only on our referrals? So, do you need a website? Some say yes, but I’m starting to think no. WHY? Why do we need a website? Right now I have over 1000 websites! Each and every one of my posts that is posted

blogging: Is this really possible? Do they not have internet access? - 05/10/09 07:49 PM
Today I was looking for an agent to refer, not one, but two transactions to in what I consider to be a pretty large city along I-5, with a population of just over 20,000 people. So, I do what I do every time I need to refer some business out? I go check out my favorite website of the last two years… ACTIVERAIN because it ROCKS! Well, I click on the search feature, because I don’t know the county (even though I live in the dang state) and click the city. There we go… 11agents pop up. Someone there is

blogging: Todd, what do you mean you aren’t selling real estate! - 04/27/09 07:17 AM
Why is that most people leave real estate as a career? It is because they can’t stand not knowing if they are going to be able to pay their mortgage next month? Heck I’m not selling real estate myself right now! But, that doesn’t mean I’m not making money from real estate. My friend Jason Sardi read a interview with me by Katerina Gassett, she wanted to know the low down on me, my family and my blogging, but Jason wanted to know the lowdown how I was surviving the rough market. I got a lot of phone calls about

blogging: The power of Activerain – Inspiration starts at the top - 02/22/09 12:49 PM
As many of you know, I’m a big fan of Activerain. Heck, I seem to become a bigger fan everyday! And, you also know that I’m very transparent in my posts about life, real estate and even where I plan to hang my license. Many of you know the story of me choosing a new brokerage. (I still haven’t switched yet, but working on it.) I chose a company that would let me be me. It would still give me the power to be my business, yet give me the opportunity to help others. I did find

blogging: I love what Activerain has done for my business and my life - 02/04/09 04:32 PM
Everyday I wake up and realize that I have one of the greatest tools right at my finger tips and unless I have lost my internet connection, Activerain is right there waiting for me. But, when I started over 2 years and some 1200 posts ago, I was just looking for a way to take my farm letter and make it online. I just accidentally stumbled upon Activerain and boy, am I glad I did. The first thing I started to see happening was that I was making friends online that I could send business to and they could send

blogging: Funny, I didn’t think you needed to blog - 01/19/09 12:43 PM
A year ago we had an office meeting and my principle broker wanted me to talk to the rest of the agents about blogging and what it could do for their business. During that meeting I was amazed at how many agents told me that they didn't need to blog, they were busy enough. Well, 2008 has ended and there were months that I had more sales than some of these agents had all year and those sales were mostly from my blog. Now, 2009 has arrived and our offices have become one office and our 34 agents have become 9
