business: Are you watching your competition? Well, they may be watching you! - 04/16/12 02:02 AM
I love knowing exactly where allmy leads come from, who isclicking on what, how many page visits it takes to get a prospect toclick andthen how many clicks it takes to get a lead. (It really is a numbersgame) But,you know what? I also know that buyers aren’t the only ones checkingout myblogs and ads, because I track IP addresses.
Just in case you don’t know IP addressescan tell you a lot about a person andsometimes your competition doesn’t realize that what they think theyare doing anonymouslyis anything but! Now, does this bother me? No, not at all, heck I teachclasseson … (13 comments)

business: Where is your path taking you? - 01/22/12 05:55 PM
One thing I love about hiking isthat I get to spend some great quality time with my family. Often when we go out, there is no destinationin mind, just that we want to have a fun time. I’m really glad we have hand held GPS devices to help us find out way back.
Though I love the venture, I do know that in business taken risks can be either very profitable or very expensive. Doyou have a path you follow and do you have a compass to keep you on course and help youfind yourway back?
Tomorrow, I’m going to try a little something … (7 comments)

business: Wow, you are a part time agent? - 01/22/12 11:56 AM
Last month my team closed a transaction with a buyer’s agent that was one of the easiest closes we have ever had. They answered every emailand took every one of my calls and got things to me promptly, everything you want to happen when doing a short sale.
Well, now that the transaction is done, I wanted to call this agent and thank them for their hard work. She then told me she was a part time agent and I was floored! I thought for sure she was full time andhad been in the business 20 years! (Her clients were lucky to have … (10 comments)

business: You real estate agents have it so easy! - 01/21/12 04:40 AM
“You real estate agents have it so easy” that is what I heard from someone the other day. I asked them what made them say that?Theysaid “You work 5-10 hours a week and make hundreds of thousands of dollars, now don’t tell me that isn’t easy”
WOAH THERE! You think I work 5-10 hours a week? Now, thereis your first mistake. Yes, every night I have made the decision tohave dinner with my family at 5:30 and yes I do go to the park with my kids often for blogs and yes, I do spend a lot of time at baseball practices … (60 comments)

business: I love the number 5! (Thank you) - 01/03/12 09:42 AM
Why would I say I love the number 5? Well, today the number five means so many thing, starting with today January 3rd, 2012. You see today is my 5 year anniversary on Activerain! Yes, 5 years of commenting, blogging and friendships.
But, let’s look at how the number five goes way beyond this 5th anniversary today! Back in June I took a trip to Seattle to speak at Raincamp and I loved it as I got to meet many new friends, but there was one thing I didn’t like… The pictures, you see, I realized how much weight I had … (117 comments)

business: The road looks clear and straight for 2012 (Are you looking where you are going?) - 12/19/11 05:08 AM
As the sun shines on my business I still forward and to the future and as Corey Hart put it “My Future is so Bright, I Have to Wear Shades” But, that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop looking forward and stop looking for obstacles in the road.
Rather than sitting back and just enjoying the ride, I’m actually makings calls, sending letters, door knocking and blogging and those are the map to where I’m going in 2012, I’m not just going to sit behind this wheel and see where the road takes me. All these things are the road map … (9 comments)

business: Are you changing with the times or are you doing the same ole things that aren't working? - 12/17/11 01:41 PM

A lot of agents look at their business once a year and re-evaluate what they need to do in their business to make it successful. Now to me this is a huge mistake! I look at my business every month and if something isn’t working, I will eliminate it. If you don’t evaluate your business and continue what is working and eliminate what isn’t, you to like this general store will become obsolete.  How often do you look at your business?

business: I know you are watching me and I am also watching you! - 12/17/11 09:29 AM
One thing I love about Activerain is making new connections with other members around the country. One way of meeting these new people is finding new bloggers that I haven’t discovered yet and getting to know them through their posts. Also, another way is new people finding my posts and then commenting on my posts.
When someone does that, I will then check out their blog and comment on their posts and hopefully they have shared something about themselves that lets me know who they are and what they are about.  Each and every blog post is a small look into … (7 comments)

business: If you want business, you can’t hide from the public - 12/12/11 04:25 AM
I hear it from agents and mortgage brokers everyday “I want more business, do you have any ideas?” Well, I have some ideas, the same ideas I’ve been giving you for the past 4 years and you wouldn’t listen then and I’m hoping you will listen now.
Referrals can be a huge part of your business, but if that isn’t getting you enough business right now, then you need to generate new leads. But, sitting in the office waiting for the phone to ring isn’t going to get you those leads unless you are doing something to make that phone ring.

business: The grass maybe greener, but… - 11/28/11 04:01 AM

As the new year fast approaches people seem to look for change and because of that many people including agents give themselves New Year’s resolutions. Many starving agents think that the problem clearly can’t be them and must be their agency. (You know the grass is always greener) Well, I promise, just like Little Richard said the grass will be just as hard to cut.

business: How to make friends - 11/15/11 04:53 AM

One thing you need to learn how to do to succeed in any business or job is learn how to make friends. That is why I loved this quote so much! This quote and picture really says it all when it comes to making friends. If you really want to make friends, then you need to be one first!

business: Life on the farm - 10/28/11 07:29 AM

As agents are we a lot like a farmer? Life is simple, we plant our seed, we watch it grow, but isn’t that the easy part of farming? Reaping what we sow is really the hard part. So go plant your seeds, but don’t forget to reap what you have sowed this spring and now that your hard work will pay off at the closing table.

business: Controlling your destination - 10/06/11 04:50 AM

One thing life has taught me is that you choose your destination. This picture where this little girl was telling the ocean in no uncertain terms that she couldn’t be gotten! She was choosing her own destination. Do you wake up and decide that the stock market or the real estate market can’t get you? I won’t let outside factors like that affect my business! The harder the market hits me, the harder I hit back and the busier I get!

business: Do you try to go it alone? Sometime there are things even too big for you! - 09/27/11 12:28 PM
Do you try to go it alone? Sometime there are things even too big for you! That is why I think it is important to admit when you need help and reach out for it. Recently I took a trip to the coast with my family and while there I saw the biggest kite I had ever seen.
But, that kite couldn’t fly on its own just under wind power and the person who brought the kite couldn’t get it up on his own either, both needed help and both understood this and when they both got the help they needed they … (10 comments)

business: Do you treat all your clients like they are special? - 09/26/11 04:03 AM
I truly believe each one of my clients is special and I treat them all equally no matter the size of the property or how we met. But, recently I’ve seen more and more agents show favoritism to different types of clients. Now, these weren’t clients that were spending any more money, but they were referral clients from an out of area agent.
To me I think it is important to treat referrals with care because it could mean the difference between getting any more and never getting one again! But, I think you should treat all clients that way, not … (8 comments)

business: Do all your ads look the same? Maybe that is why you aren't getting calls - 09/23/11 04:14 AM

Have you ever wondered why one agent may get 30 calls from his craigslist ads while you get 1 or 2? Do you run the same ad every day, every week, every month? If you aren’t getting any calls and you aren’t changing your ad, then how do you expect to get any different results?

Changing your ad doesn’t have to be a bad thing. The key is to change it up and track your marketing. Not all ads are created equal and your job is to keep changing your ad until you get the 30 – 40 … (25 comments)

business: Where is today going to take you? - 07/25/11 03:04 AM
150 years ago you didn’t have much choice how you were going to travel, you either took a horse or you took the much faster train. Today, there are a lot of pieces of technology that represent the horse and the train of 150 years ago.
Today when you get up, look at how you run your business. No, really look! Are their things you can do to simplify your business? Is there stuff you can do to automate your business to make it more efficient without actually changing it, but actually enhancing it?
You bet there are, the question is … (12 comments)

business: What I learned this year from a bunch of 1st graders - 06/12/11 04:29 AM
It is amazing what you can learn from six and seven year olds. You would think with being on this planet that they wouldn’t have enough life experience yet to teach and old dog new things, but if you think that way you would be wrong!
I learned this year, it pays to always be ready. Be in the ready position, because you never know when the ball will be hit to you!

Another thing is practice makes perfect! Though this major league looking throw to third base was clearly an out in the making, it isn’t as it appears. … (13 comments)

business: Did you remove your sunglasses? - 12/07/10 04:38 AM

This sign reminded me of the present real estate market. I see a lot of hope, but we are in a tunnel that once we are out of it the sun will appear again. But, there are still a lot of slow moving agents in our way that once we reach the otherside of the tunnel they will be behind us because I don't plan to wait for them, I plan to pass them!
