columbia gorge: Family Day hikes in and around Beaverton, Oregon: Day 2 – Wahclella Falls Trail (The Columbia Gorge) - 11/02/11 12:51 PM

Day two of our family hikes to learn, have fun and get some exercise took us to the Columbia Gorge about 40 miles outside Portland near Bonneville Dam. Now, this was our choice for out date today as it was our 17th wedding anniversary.

Now this wasn’t too difficult of a climb even with a 6 year old and we even saw kids younger than that making this trek. It is a mile to the falls and back and I do have to say well worth the hike, especially if you like to take pictures. If the kids weren’t … (21 comments)

columbia gorge: The Oneonta Gorge… At one time was the gateway for cars to the east - 02/09/11 05:38 PM

Prior to the 1940’s this bridge and tunnel were the path that cars took east and west before bigger, better roads were built and eventually Interstate 84 was put in. In the 1940’s though, before ways to shore up the safety issues, they had to close the tunnel because of falling debris. Today it has been re-opened as safe as ever as a hiking trail along the historic Columbia Gorge Highway.

If you are up for a good hike, there are many, many hiking trails in the Gorge that are beautiful with plants, animals and amazing waterfalls. (So … (9 comments)

columbia gorge: Even though we came home early Monday, we went back out yesterday to get more pictures - 10/06/10 05:17 AM

Yesterday you read about our ventures in camping with our new tent trailer and how my daughter ending up having to go to urgent care. Well, she is on medication now and all is good and so we decided to head back out to the Columbia Gorge, do some more hiking, some geocaching and even a little picture taking.

View up by Ponytail Falls If you are ever in Oregon, I suggest you take the quick drive up the gorge and check out the whole Multnomah Falls area as it has some of the most beautiful hiking trails and … (15 comments)

columbia gorge: Though our camping trip did end earlier than expected, I still got a couple good pictures - 10/04/10 01:25 PM

Yes as with all our vacations something must go wrong with it and this little test run with our new tent trailer was no exception. Good news is it really wasn’t anything wrong with the trailer itself, but rather one of my kids. We were forced to come back and visit the urgent care facility with our youngest. (She is alright, just too much acid in the tummy)
But, while we were only camping for about 36 hours, we did get a couple good pictures for you to enjoy, hopefully next venture will be a little longer and have a … (24 comments)

columbia gorge: Don't get depressed because of the rain, enjoy the beauty that it has to offer - 01/20/10 03:59 AM
The one thing most people don't like about Oregon is one of the main reasons I love it so much! The Oregon rain brings some of the greenest forests in the world and some of the greatest waterfalls to take pictures of. Imagine being able to hike year round and get shots like this.
Oregon has some of the most and the best hiking trails in the world and I wouldn't trade them for the world or the sunny weather. Here is a picture from Horse Shoe Falls area just up the gorge near Multnomah Falls and if you are looking for … (13 comments)

columbia gorge: Oregon's Columbia Gorge - What a sight - 10/13/07 10:34 AM
Yes it is true, I wore a leash everyday during the summer when I was toddler. You see, both my parents are teachers, and during the summer months my dad worked as a camp ranger in the Oneonta State Park and Campground.
The reason for the leash was, when I was one and a half, while hiking on these trails with my parents, I thought I would take an adventure that wasn't on the map. I fell off the trail and fell down a cliff onto a ledge. Lucky for me, I was stunned, and didn't move and fall the rest of … (5 comments)
