I’ve decided that it was time to find places to take the family on a daily basis that involved hikes that lasted an hour or two. For a combination of reason, one to just spend time with the family, two to get some exercise and third was to educate our children.  (Everything can be a learning opportunity when you home school your kids)

Day two of our family hikes to learn, have fun and get some exercise took us to the Columbia Gorge about 40 miles outside Portland near Bonneville Dam. Now, this was our choice for out date today as it was our 17th wedding anniversary.

Now this wasn’t too difficult of a climb even with a 6 year old and we even saw kids younger than that making this trek. It is a mile to the falls and back and I do have to say well worth the hike, especially if you like to take pictures. If the kids weren’t … (21 comments)

Yesterday you read about our ventures in camping with our new tent trailer and how my daughter ending up having to go to urgent care. Well, she is on medication now and all is good and so we decided to head back out to the Columbia Gorge, do some more hiking, some geocaching and even a little picture taking.

Ape Caves in Washington State, near Mount St. Helens, was formed when Mount St. Helens blew, not in 1980, but a few thousand years earlier and was flowing lava and not ash. The flowing lava, as it cooled, created lava tubes that sat undiscovered for thousands of years.
