homes: The key to getting more business is simple… Answer the phone! - 09/27/11 02:33 AM
Sounds crazy doesn’t it? But, how many of you don’t answer the phone when a potential client calls you? Think about it, do you really answer the phone when you aren’t busy? Well, I keep getting more and more clients because of agents who don’t answer the phone.

I would love to be the first agent these people talk to, but even if I’m not first, second or third, as long as I’m the last agent they talk to that is fine by me. When a person calls me and sounding completely frustrated and says “Thank you, you are the … (94 comments)

homes: How much is peace and quiet worth when you buy a home - 08/04/11 11:50 AM
How much is peace and quiet worth when you buy a home? This was the question some of my newest clients had when they purchased a home. Why did they have this question? Well, the house they were buying was one of the most expensive in the city and would have been the highest priced home sold in the last six months upon close.
Despite all that, they had to have this home, it was a worry when it came to the appraisal, but they were buying the home as well as the peace and quiet that came with this home, … (14 comments)

I keep hearing buyers say they are waiting on a deal when buying a home in Portland, Oregon. Well, you need to stop hanging around and looking and open your eyes and start buying, because they are all around you!
You see right now there are probably 3 new that came on the market today and new ones are hitting the market everyday that are great deals. But, because you are hanging around waiting, they are being looked at and being bought by others that realized they were deals.
You see, if a home is well priced, they aren’t … (8 comments)

homes: When is a 2nd bathroom, not a second bathroom? - 04/03/11 02:36 PM

As you look at a blank piece of paper would you call that a work of art? As you look at a raw piece of land, would you call that a park? Is an items end result even if never started what we should call it? Can I call a tree a pencil or a tooth pick even why it stands in the forest?

Seems stupid I know, but as I walked in to a listing last week this is how my client approached the master bedroom. WHY? Because is this a bathroom or a closet? The listing paperwork … (16 comments)

homes: Even with the real estate market spinning out of control, with the right agents, you can still be left with a smile on your face. - 03/24/11 02:30 AM

With all the doom and gloom in the real estate market you would think not a single house is selling anywhere, but that just isn’t the case. The fact is, we are seeing a record number of homes sold by my team, The Friendly Home Team at Knipe Realty in Washington County, Oregon.

Though many people feel the market is spinning out of control, just like this picture, my clients come out of the crowd and can be seen with smiles on their faces as they either sell a home through us or find that perfect home for their … (14 comments)

homes: The Oregon City Falls and the end of the Oregon Trail - 03/17/11 02:45 AM

Oregon City is one of the oldest cities in Oregon and many consider it to be the end of the Oregon trail, though many did end their journey here, there are still many miles to the Pacific Ocean. I do have to say with the beauty of the falls and the Oregon City area, I think I would have probably stopped here to have the very tough journey they all took to get here.

homes: Give the gift of life, donate blood today, it really is that easy! - 02/10/11 09:35 AM

Spring break is coming and with vacations, sporting events for the kids, the time to donate is now! Sometimes it doesn't seem that important. But, with time off for kids, more accidents happen. The American Red Cross needs your blog, no matter the type. So, before spring does arrive and you think "Oh, I'll donate blood next week" and then next week never comes. Donate today while you have time and are thinking about it.

Donating blood is quick, easy and like I said only takes a couple hours. Then the rest of the day or … (12 comments)

homes: Did the Superbowl and their advertisers miss a huge audience? - 02/07/11 01:49 PM

As Realtors® we all know that social media has become huge, yet during the game, commercials and even the half-time show yesterday, I didn’t see anyone using social media to press their products. I have to admit I was surprised, especially from GoDaddy. (They did say for more, go to GoDaddy.com, but that was about the extent of it.
Why not send fans of the commercials to your Facebook page or Twitter account where you can stay in contact with them on a daily basis rather than once a year at Superbowl time? What about the NFL, what … (15 comments)

homes: Underwriters are asking tougher questions, they aren’t picking you! - 04/04/10 09:56 PM

Every day it seems my clients are having a harder time getting a loan to close because of all the questions and proof being required by underwriters today. But, I do have to say that I don’t think this is a bad thing. Between 2005 and 2009, there were case after case of people who got loans because the underwriters weren’t asking the tough questions, they were just taking people on their word.

So, what was the problem? It seems that some of word coming from clients wasn’t their word! What was happening was brokers were falsifying documents to … (10 comments)

homes: Has the online MLS made real estate more like EBay rather than Better Homes and Gardens Magazine? - 08/25/09 11:10 PM

I don’t know if any of you remember Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, but it showcased beautiful homes that looked great and they were something most people would want to own. But, what happened to those days?
Now, we have EBay and it seems buyers are more about price than they are the actual home and what it has to offer. The MLS seems to be a place you can look at homes and list them from lowest price to highest and the lowest price wins, no matter what is actually being offered.

Can or will we ever … (10 comments)
