marketing: Your New Year’s resolution and your marketing plan (Yes, they have something in common) - 01/15/12 10:42 AM
No, I’m not crazy, but I’m hoping this gets you to thinking about what you do with your New Year’s resolution and your marketing dollar in this coming year. I was once told that 85% of people don’t stick to their resolution because they don’t see results quick enough. How many of you have spent good money on marketing and quickly stopped using it because it wasn’t getting you’re the results you were expecting quick enough? Sound familiar? Yes, just like those 85% of people that give up on their New Year’s resolution, your marketing is a waste if you don’t

marketing: Focus and your target - 05/30/11 11:44 AM
I’ve written other articles on marketing, your target audience, niche marketing and our aim. But, what about you, how focused are you on you? You may see your target, you may be spending thousands on adverting, but unless you stay focused yourself, no amount of marketing will ever matter. See my son? He isn’t focused on a video game, he isn’t thinking about what he is going to have for dinner, he is focused on one thing and one thing only, how he is going to get that batter struck out. He is so focused on that pitch and where it

marketing: Taking aim! I don’t shoot to miss! - 05/08/11 08:19 PM
When I take aim with when shooting my guns, I don’t plan to miss. I like to think of everything I do, I do the same. When I pick a target audience for my marketing, I plan to hit that target dead on. Now, does that mean that I do? Well, of course not! But, what it does mean when I need to tweet my marketing to make the next shot better. When I miss when shooting, I don’t give up, I make corrections, learn from my mistakes and take another shot. My question is, are you doing that with

marketing: Is our marketing so different? Can one mistake kill your business? - 12/12/10 03:08 PM
Personally, I think marketing, in some cases, is very precision, we do the same things day in and day out. Changing our routine up ever so slightly to get a better performance, but, if we make one mistake can it kill your business? I really don’t this so. I think real estate is ever evolving and sharing of ideas makes us better at marketing and in business. But, I see it all the time, heck I’ve made mistakes and survived them. I think we need to evolve if we ever want to make more than we presently do. I’m

marketing: Silent Saturdays: Is your marketing sagging along with your market? - 08/21/10 03:46 AM
How could I not laugh and take this picture when on a major road. I saw this other agents sign hanging their and the post is being help together with duct tape and that isn’t even really doing the job! So, does your market have you sagging a little bit? It does for this agent! marketing: Can your agent do this? - 06/15/10 11:58 PM
One of the things I’m asked a lot at listing appointments is “How much marketing do you do?” Oh, how I love this question! Dear Mr. and Mrs. Seller, let me do more than tell you, let me show you! Showing is so much better than hearing someone talk about themselves. In the past 4 years since I originally started blogging, I have posted more than 3500 blog posts! Some 5000 posts to Craigslist, 150 posts to Postlets and VFlyer which send them out to over 30 other advertising sites. On and an average day I get some

marketing: Selling your home in Beaverton, Oregon? The key to selling your home is location, location, location! - 10/22/09 01:35 PM
I know you have heard it before, everyone says real estate is all about the location. But, when it comes to selling your home, what agent are you using? What is their location? How visible are they? What is their location? (Not physically, but on the internet.) In today's market, it isn't all about where the home is located, although that does help, its also about where your agent is. Look around, how many agents just have one website? How many of them have a blog? The next question is how do they use it and often are they

marketing: Not hearing the phrase “I wish I was a real estate agent” anymore - 09/20/09 12:40 PM
Three years ago, I heard the phrase, “I wish I was a real estate agent” at almost every close. Clients thought real estate agents lived the charmed life. They didn’t see what went on behind the scenes. But, more and more of my present and past clients are now saying, “I don’t know how you can stand being an agent, sales are so tough now.” I’m not going to argue with them, they are tough, but the tough deal with it and thrive! I certainly never did live the charmed life like many of them thought at the

marketing: I blog a lot, but I still have a lot to learn and I won’t lie about that - 02/24/09 12:35 PM
I didn’t know this was possible, but I’ve gotten three e-mails in the last week all from one person, but no return address or a signature on any of them. How can you do that? Now, none of the e-mails were bad, they were actually full of great advice. I have been writing a lot lately about me being a prolific blogger, but not a great one. The e-mails all gave me great ideas on how to improve my blog look, feel and even how to do something called long-tails. So, I am going to be changing how I

marketing: I don’t want any solicitors on the property, please leave - 02/05/09 01:52 PM
It's not the warm welcome I was looking for, but I understand you get lots of people knocking on your door. The good news is, I'm not going to knock on your door. Why would I? You are standing in your flower garden in your front yard. This usually gets a laugh or two, but at this time of year that doesn't work. Do I remember that house from last spring where I did this song and dance with the owner? You bet I do and do you think they remember me? I'm guessing they do, because I wasn't asking them

marketing: I’m going to stay ahead of the pack… The lead dog eats first! - 12/01/08 12:00 AM
Over the past three years I have done a lot of lease options and owner financing deals. Now the market has changed and so is everyone else. I'm starting to get lost in a sea of idiots. But, as they play catch up, I'm preparing myself for the next wave in real estate and when the road turns, I will be faced in the right direction while they are behind me once again playing catch up. Now, will I ever be the number one agent in Washington County, Oregon? Probably not, but that isn't what it is about for me, it

marketing: Maybe I should try the Maury way to expired listings - 09/18/08 08:37 AM
You know how he does paternity tests, he calls the potential daddy to the stage, opens an envelope, and then says, "Chuck, you are NOT the father"! Now, what if I took that same concept and went to the door of every expired listing. I go to the door with a chair, sit down, ring the door bell, and when they open it, I pull out their old MLS printout and say, "Here I have the result of your home being sold and I'm sorry to say it did not." Wait, wait... I got it! I could put someone with a

marketing: Why I now subscribe to my own blog - 08/17/08 10:10 AM
Have you ever gotten an e-mail from someone and you didn't know how to react? Well, last week I got that e-mail from someone who subscribes to my blog via e-mail. I knew I had that on my blog via Feedburner, but I never actually went back to see who or if anyone had subscribed to my blog! It turns out in one of my blogs I had mentioned the pictures below and the subscriber e-mailed me to tell me that there were no pictures within the post they received. So, I ended up having to send them a link

marketing: KISS ME, KISS MY MARKETING AND HOPEFULLY KISS MY… - 08/13/08 10:47 AM
As I write this I am amazed at the fact that I didn't think of this before. What makes me stand out from other agents? What can I do to make my self stand out more? What makes people think of you when they think of real estate? Is it a calendar on their fridge? I can't count how many listings I've taken with another agent on the fridge. Is it your newsletter? I've seen people hire me and then ask me about an article in another agent's flyer. So what was it? What is it and what should it be

marketing: When an April Fools joke doesn't work - 04/07/07 10:57 AM
I read a blog on Real Estate Marketing and the hose of this blog Tim O'Keefe wrote a blog on April 1st, that was clearly as a joke. The only problem is most people just scanned the article and said congratulations, but the blog it self got no comments. So today he wrote an explanation. I applaud him for admitting that sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious. I got the joke and just moved on instead of commenting. But he would like Realtors and Mortgage brokers to take notice and visit the blog and as a contest is giving away a
