networking: Your sphere of influence is the key to your business (How to connect?) - 05/14/12 06:15 AM
When I got in to the real estate back in 1993, I was taught that the way to get business was to farm, door knock and repeat business. But, then after a year of that and not really digging my feet in as I had envisioned from the promises I was getting I had to figure out something else.
Then, I changed companies, got an old school prospective about real estate and learned how to sell and also how to talk to people I already knew (my sphere) and turn give them business and in turn, they would give me business. … (5 comments)

networking: If I, I,I is all you talk about in your letter to your sphere of influence then they aren’t listening - 01/09/12 02:07 PM
If I, I,I is all you talk about in your letter to your sphere of influence then they aren’t listening. Your Sphere of influence should be a great source of business for you and if it isn’t, you need to relook at how you are networking and with whom. But, one thing I’ve been noticing about newsletters I’ve been getting from some people who want me to join their sphere is they are all about them.

Great, I know what you do, it is pretty obvious, but I want to network with not only you, but the others in your … (8 comments)

networking: Don’t let my thick skin fool you, I like other people - 09/16/11 12:37 PM
Have you ever met someone that is standoffish? They don’t want to let you get near them? Sometimes these people I like to meet the most, it is usually caused by them being shy. If you can look past the outer shell, like this plant you will see they want to be close to others, but just need someone to reach out to them.
This lone plant, looked loney, but when you looked past it there were actually thousands of them. Yet, this one seemed it was the most alone and so I decided to take a picture of it. This … (17 comments)

networking: Want to be successful? Here is the secret! - 04/10/11 04:47 PM

Now, have you ever talked to a successful person? They all say one thing, they were self motivating, that doesn’t mean they didn’t have a coach or a mentor, it just means they didn’t have to be told how to be successful, they just motivated themselves until the were a success.
Let’s look at the most successful thing you see, the sun, it doesn’t wait for someone to tell it when to rise, it is there, even if hidden behind the trees or clouds. (But, it is always there) Maybe we should look at the sun everyday and find … (7 comments)

networking: The story behind the new profile pic… - 08/15/10 11:07 PM
Ok, I know I have talked about why I had the home plate profile pic before, but I’ve been asked to replace it by many. I have even had some requests to do so based on my Wednesday series, “Through the Eyes of Todd”. Well, I thought long and hard and had to come up with some way to combine the two and I did it.

Today, even though it was 100 degrees out, I went to a baseball game and came up with the current profile pic that shows me as well as the baseball field. Today was … (17 comments)

networking: Are you using your blogging to get more for your clients! If not, you should be! - 06/26/10 01:39 AM

As one of the top bloggers on Activerain and even before I was one of the top bloggers there is something that I’ve always used my blog for and that is to get my clients more services for a discounted price or free! How, do you ask? Simple, I use my leverage and Google juice to bring more clients to other people in my network.

One of the things the power of Activerain has always done for me is produced a lot of SEO and because of that people seek me out and try to get me to advertise … (83 comments)

networking: Trekaroo, the leads just keep coming in! - 04/22/10 09:44 AM

As many of you know just by looking at my logo, my target audience is families. I love children and the excitement I see in their eyes when they pick out their room in a home. But, finding families that are looking to buy or sell is always a challenge, so you need to find your target audience and find out where they are going.
This is where Trekaroo has been a goldmine for me. When I first wrote about Trekaroo, I was still fairly new to the site and just knew that it was a site for families to … (19 comments)

networking: How to get 54 calls in one day! (At no cost to you) - 11/03/09 08:02 PM

I know it seems crazy in this market getting 54 calls in one day, but today I got exactly that! The only problem is that I didn't do any marketing or even write a great blog to warrant that many calls. But, there they were, my phone was lighting up all day long.

What happened? It seems someone decided to go to a home insurance quote site and put my name and phone number in and ever insurance agent in the state got a copy of that list and was calling me all day long trying to earn my … (18 comments)

networking: The why, how and the how not to add an associate to your Activerain account - 10/14/09 11:53 PM

As an Ambassador of Activerain one of my jobs is to show others how to use Activerain to build their business. I do this by teaching them how to blog for business, how to use social media to promote themselves and their blog, and how to just network, network, network. But, one of the most confusing things on Activerain for most newbies and even long time members on Activerain is the Associate button. What is it? Why do we have it? How can it help me build my business?

Think of the Associate button as a giant networking button, … (28 comments)

networking: How are you reaching out for more business? - 10/11/09 12:40 PM

On Friday, I decided that even though I have over 2000 blog posts all working for me on Google, that there had to be a way to do more. How can I make Google love my blogs even more and also build business?

So, after 2000 posts without any help from anyone else, I reached out to a couple mortgage professionals and I will be reaching out to a few more here in the next couple days. I've asked them to be contributors to my outside blogs. Not with technical stuff, but just stuff about the community that I … (64 comments)

networking: Want to build your referral business in less than 2 hours a week! - 08/29/09 09:53 PM

Are you getting any referral business from the cities around you? What if I were able to show you how to build a referral network that will last years and for less than 2 hours a week and $5 in gas? Well, I’ve been doing that for awhile now and I can tell you, the more you give, the more you get!

Activerain has been a huge part of my business since January 2007 and I love to share it with others. But what I was missing was that by sharing I was also building relationships. Now, I have … (24 comments)

networking: If you are using social media, remember you are trying to get business not eliminate it - 07/16/09 10:54 AM
Social media isn’t new, it is just in a new format with the internet now. You are trying to build your business, but before Twitter and Blogging, social media through was done through articles in newspapers, door knocking, fund raisers, networking meetings such as Toastmasters, and many other ways of getting your name out there by meeting people.

Well, today, Social media is now considered to be Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Activerain and many other blogging sites. But, how you use it can and will affect your business! Just like when meeting people face to face, in order to get business, … (14 comments)

networking: My first Twitter meeting - 05/27/09 04:54 PM
I’ve been really only been tweeting for about two weeks now, but I have to say, it really has been fun, now that I get it. That was the key, I needed to get it and understand that it was more about meeting people than telling people that I was going to the bathroom.

Twitter let people get to know me, get to have a conversation with me without having to go to a networking meeting, an awkward date, or all the other weird ways people meet. They get to know me by my responses and if they choose … (8 comments)

networking: You maybe willing to tell your client to ignore the code of ethics, but I’m not! - 03/05/09 01:04 PM
Yesterday, I was called with a potential buyer for a condo in Beaverton and, of course, I jumped on the chance, since I didn’t even have to start the car to get to these condos. So, I walk over to the model unit and there was this very nice lady and her three year old daughter there waiting for me.
I invite her in and start to ask the normal questions. Of course, the first one was, “Are you presently working with an agent?” Now, this person spoke very broken English, but she did say, “Yes, I have an agent and … (31 comments)

networking: OK, I’ve never heard of a referral time limit, please explain? - 02/17/09 12:22 PM
Yesterday I sent out another referral and, as normal, I always request they sign the referral paperwork prior to me sending over the information for the buyer or seller, in this case it was a buyer. I didn't think anything of it as it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary. But when I got the call from the agent I was referring it to, this referral became anything but ordinary.
Don't get me wrong, I love the agent that I referred this person to, and I know the buyer will be in good hands, but something she said that … (38 comments)

networking: I love what Activerain has done for my business and my life - 02/04/09 04:32 PM
Everyday I wake up and realize that I have one of the greatest tools right at my finger tips and unless I have lost my internet connection, Activerain is right there waiting for me. But, when I started over 2 years and some 1200 posts ago, I was just looking for a way to take my farm letter and make it online. I just accidentally stumbled upon Activerain and boy, am I glad I did.
The first thing I started to see happening was that I was making friends online that I could send business to and they could send … (77 comments)

networking: How far can BS take you? - 10/30/08 09:07 AM
Once a week I meet with fellow business owners for what I call Business Social Networking or BS for short. That is right, BS, because that is what you get out of most of these meetings. One hour of people talking up how great they are, just to drive business their way from you and your leads, but never really wanting to give back.
Why is this? I feel that it is a trust issue. Have you ever had your name sold by a company that you do business with to another businesses e-mail or direct mail mailing lists? How did … (13 comments)

networking: The power of the spider’s web - 09/05/07 10:53 AM
Why do spiders use a web? Well, to catch their next meal. But, can you use their same basic concept to help you get your next meal?

If you plan a web of advertising that like a spider's web catches everyone you want, you can't lose. But, it can be very expensive.
So draw a strait line on a piece of paper right now. This line is equal to one form of advertising. Now draw asecond line, now a third and even a fourth line. These lines can even cross each other if you want. But each has to be … (5 comments)
