old barns: Farming and the old west and how I don’t want to lose it - 09/01/11 11:13 AM
Over the past year, I’ve really kind of have become obsessed with old barns and farms. I love farm, they provide the food that is put on our table. But, over the past I would say half century here in Oregon, we have been losing them slowly but surely.
Farming has become more expensive with government regulations and lawsuits by neighbors who move in and then complain about the smell. (Stupid if you ask me) But, without these farms, we are left hungry!

One of the things I love about helping people buy a home in Washington County is it can be a trip back in time. What I love to do from time to time while showing homes is to go back roads, so we can see the rich farming areas that we have here. Getting shots of old barns like this one are what make that trip back in time so worth it.

They say Oregon has a great history, and nothing says that better than the Barns of Washington County. They say a picture can tell say a thousand words, but I really wish these old barns could talk. Some of these old barns have been around since the gold rush. Others have seen their owners through world wars, the great depression, and other world conflicts. Yet, they still stand and do their job, not all of them look as good as the day they were built, but just the same, they are beautiful.
