photography: Falling in love with fall - 10/23/11 06:12 PM
I love fall, the colors are amazing and as a armature photographer it gives me great opportunities to get some beautiful shots. But, kids, oh, the kids love fall for a completely different reason! As you can see even a leaf pile can be a place to play when you are a kid.
Now, if you have kids, there is a safety tip for them though. Make sure any pile they play in is located in your yard and not in the streets. If they play in piles in the street it is to easy for them to get hit by … (21 comments)

photography: With the return of fall and winter, don’t forget our little friends - 10/11/11 06:20 AM
With the return of fall and winter, don’t forget our little friends. You see during the spring and summer our backyard is full of life and beauty which is all a food source for our little backyard friends. But, with fall and winter the plant life that feeds our beautiful backyard friends disappears.
Unlike a lot of other types of birds, hummingbirds don’t migrate and they need our help to stay alive. So, if you have a place in your yard to hang a hummingbird feeder, then please help our little friends. I know I have mine full and I actually … (14 comments)

photography: Feeling their power just feet from you - 09/18/11 06:37 PM

This last week I went to the zoo with my nieces and nephew and we all got to be close to one the most powerful cat in North America. You could see the grace and beauty in this beautiful cat within 3 feet, but behind the safety of the glass which was just fine with me, because I know if I was that close in the wild, it would be the last thing I ever saw.

photography: Sometimes red eyes and a running nose are worth it! - 09/17/11 05:00 AM

Having allergies can be a miserable thing, but sometimes there are flowers in this world that just begged to be smelled. That was the case with this flower and my allergies did act up after that quick sniff, it was well worth it! As you look at this flower, let me ask you, could you resist?

photography: Before there was horsepower, well, there was horsepower! - 09/14/11 05:30 AM

We didn’t always have John Deer tractors in our lives to make farming easier with their large wheels and huge horse power. Before there was horsepower, well, there was horsepower and the tools we had to plow the fields were pulled by one, maybe two horses, but, that was all the horse power it needed.

photography: The fiery sun warms even the coldest of waters - 09/11/11 02:50 AM

There is something about watching the sun hit the snow runoff water in the morning, to me it looks like lava. The fog just above the water that stays only for a little while to me gives it such an eerie glow. I was out here today ready to take pictures of the salmon as they went up river to spawn. Now, that didn’t happen as planned, but hey, at least it was relaxing and I had this great shot to show for it.

photography: Mom, why is he looking at us like he wants to eat us? - 09/06/11 06:37 PM

Mom, why is he looking at us like he wants to eat us? I’m not sure son, but stay behind me and maybe he won’t notice you. The entire time I was taking these pictures, that is how that mother cow was looking at me and that calf was really worried. I do have to admit, I did have BBQ sauce on my brain while taking the pictures. MMMM Hamburger!

photography: Where there is smoke there is fire! - 09/02/11 12:06 PM
Unfortunately in the last couple weeks we have had some very unusual weather in the form of lightning strikes. The problem is that those strikes have actually hit the ground and have been causing lots of wild fires and closing many highways and burned a lot of homes.

Now, unfortunately we are going to lose a lot of forests and farm land. So, please for those of you driving through are wonderful state, please don’t add to the problem and through burning cigarettes out the window of your car.
Though we have had really cooler than normal weather, the … (7 comments)

photography: Farming and the old west and how I don’t want to lose it - 09/01/11 04:13 AM
Over the past year, I’ve really kind of have become obsessed with old barns and farms. I love farm, they provide the food that is put on our table. But, over the past I would say half century here in Oregon, we have been losing them slowly but surely.
Farming has become more expensive with government regulations and lawsuits by neighbors who move in and then complain about the smell. (Stupid if you ask me) But, without these farms, we are left hungry!

I do wish we could go back to a simpler time where a farmer could do what … (13 comments)

photography: Nothing like working on the farm when the sun is out! - 08/15/11 06:10 PM
When I saw the combine working to bring wheat to market for you and I, I couldn’t help but stop, take his picture and give him a friendly wave and thank him for his hard work. I love the smell of a farm and especially with the smell of fresh cut wheat.
If you have never been in a field shortly after a cut, do yourself a favor and go, you won’t regret it.

photography: A little trip back in time! - 08/14/11 04:45 PM
Some of you have seen the real thing and others like myself have seen the sternwheelers in movies. So, seeing one in person right here on the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon is a little out of the ordinary, we aren’t the mighty Mississippi.
But, if you want to check out the amazing Willamette, check out the sternwheeler and enjoy peaceful ride down the Willamette River.

photography: Sitting back and taking it all in - 08/14/11 01:38 PM
Sometimes there are days that real estate is crazy and sitting and taking it all in is the best thing to do. Well, this weekend, my family and I got out of town with a Girl Scout family campout and we learned so much out there.
But, one of the best things about the trip was the wonderful creek going through the campground. This creek not only gave me a break from the sounds of the city, but it also gave me a break away from the phone since this wonderful place had no cell service.
You know what the best … (7 comments)

photography: Just humming along - 08/12/11 09:13 AM

As I’ve quickly realized over the past couple weeks, getting a picture of a hummingbird isn’t as easy as I had thought it would be. Now, some 500 pictures later with the assistance of my oldest daughter we have finally snapped this amazing shot of this hummingbird with his tongue out.

photography: My Oregon Barn Series: I will survive! - 08/08/11 07:07 PM

I loved this barn, but I do have to say this barn was close to being gone and beyond recovery. But, despite it not being safe for anyone to go into today, I could here it saying I will survive. It certainly still made a great home for many creatures, including one deer and from the sounds I heard it is the home to many birds. So, I hope this great old barn never gives up and never surrenders and one day can be brought back to life.

photography: Oregon barns (Rich history of farming) - 08/07/11 08:39 AM

Let’s just say my daughter let me take this picture and that was about it, before she ate that first blackberry. If you like old barns and love to take pictures of them, please join our Barns of North America group here in the rain, we would love to see them.

photography: The lost barn - 08/06/11 05:33 AM

Somewhere behind all those blackberry bushes is another Oregon barn lost to time. For pictures this barn was beautiful, but after years of neglect it certainly wasn’t what it was 50 years ago. Now, the barn is a home to many animals and in a couple weeks I’m guessing some delicious wild blackberries.
