sales: Would your clients buy a home again if they knew what they now know? - 09/20/11 02:51 AM
I’ve taken a small survey of about 50% of my past clients who bought homes between January 2001 and January 2009 to find out if they knew what they know now, would they have purchased again? I can tell you this, the answer didn’t surprise me, but would it surprise you? 63% of my past clients said if they knew then what they know now, they wouldn’t have bought a home when they did. They said they would have bought a home, just not when they did. The number one thing I heard was “We got caught up in the

sales: Real estate is like a balancing act, but it is so worth it for me - 05/07/11 01:51 PM
Do you think of your real estate career as a balancing act? Trying to juggle, listings, buyers, family and life? I know I certainly do, but when I get to the end of the path knowing that I successfully balanced it all that day I feel a little bit of self satisfaction just like my daughter does here in this picture. She could have taken the sidewalk, but you know it was a lot more fun and exciting this way, that isn’t for everyone and either is sales, but for me, like my daughter “I LOVE IT!”

sales: I want to become a better negotiator… Great, but don’t you need something to negotiate first? - 10/23/10 10:24 PM
As I was sitting in a company meeting the other day, the discussion came up about what types of classes to have. Now, there was presentation, social media, blogging and then the one that caught my ear was someone who suggested a negotiation class. Now, I thought this was great, but then I thought about how many people in that room hadn’t written a contract or taken a listing in the last two months and I asked myself, “Why do they need to learn how to negotiate when they don’t actually have anything to negotiate?” I suggested that maybe we

sales: Are developers despite filing bankruptcy with their business still on the hook for the loans? - 10/15/10 09:34 PM
Many developers here in the Beaverton, Oregon, area were building homes left and right in 2008 and 2009 and they thought these homes would sell and they would make big profits. But, when the market started to turn and their homes weren’t finished yet, they saw their profits all disappear. Some of these builders have enough money to finish the project and sell the houses at less than they originally wanted, but still not depleting their bank accounts. While others bet the farm on the future sales of these homes and ended up losing everything. But, what we are

sales: Are you really doing your fiduciary responsibility if what you advise your client to is losing them thousands? - 09/14/10 04:17 PM
I was working with a buyer the other day when she came across the perfect home for her. It was a really, really good price, the fact is, that I think it is actually the lowest price detached home in all of Portland. But, price isn’t what she liked about it, it was the perfect size and it had some real uniqueness to it. Now, I have to admit when we drove to the property I was a little worried. Here is this house that is lower priced than anything else on the market and has been on the

sales: Can your agent do this? - 06/15/10 11:58 PM
One of the things I’m asked a lot at listing appointments is “How much marketing do you do?” Oh, how I love this question! Dear Mr. and Mrs. Seller, let me do more than tell you, let me show you! Showing is so much better than hearing someone talk about themselves. In the past 4 years since I originally started blogging, I have posted more than 3500 blog posts! Some 5000 posts to Craigslist, 150 posts to Postlets and VFlyer which send them out to over 30 other advertising sites. On and an average day I get some

sales: Not hearing the phrase “I wish I was a real estate agent” anymore - 09/20/09 12:40 PM
Three years ago, I heard the phrase, “I wish I was a real estate agent” at almost every close. Clients thought real estate agents lived the charmed life. They didn’t see what went on behind the scenes. But, more and more of my present and past clients are now saying, “I don’t know how you can stand being an agent, sales are so tough now.” I’m not going to argue with them, they are tough, but the tough deal with it and thrive! I certainly never did live the charmed life like many of them thought at the
