washington: How times change: The Washington Grange (313 in North Plains, Oregon) - 09/21/11 10:37 AM
How the times have changed, not only the buildings, but the people. The Washington Grange (313 in North Plains, Oregon) has seen some major changes over the years. The first grange was built on the site you see below in the early 1900s and in 1951, the new grange was built.
Below is the new grange and though it has seen some better days itself, it still stands for the community just as the day it did when it was built. Many weddings and other events have taken place here over the years and even parts of the original grange are … (4 comments)

washington: Friends, fun and a turtle all thanks to Activerain - 08/23/11 05:18 AM
One thing I’ve always loved about Activerain is the friends I’ve made. A few years ago, I had the chance to teach a class on Activerain up at here office in Vancouver, WA and that is when I got to meet the most amazing person and we have become great friends because of that class.

Well, this past weekend we got to have a great BBQ at my friend Jill Watts' house on the Washougal River in Washougal, WA. Now, this was a great chance to meet her family and even some of her grandkids and mother-in-law.

I do … (12 comments)

washington: The Bridge of the Gods - 08/20/11 05:37 PM
Today’s bridge of the Gods is a man made bridge crossing the mighty Columbia River between Oregon and Washington States. But, today’s bridge was built to replace nature’s legend. You see many years ago, there was a huge landslide blocking the mighty Columbia River and the natives called this the Bridge of the Gods.
Well over the years, the mighty Columbia River slowly overtook Gods dam and eventually washed it away. Now, years later we man has replaced Gods natural crossing with a this toll bridge that they apply named “The Bridge of the Gods” after the original bridge that was … (14 comments)

washington: Not only does this malt shop rock, so does the food and the atmosphere. - 02/22/11 06:11 PM

Ever felt like you wanted to get in to a time machine and go back to the 50s? Well here is your chance. My family found this great little restaurant thanks to an email I got about it and how it was free for kids on Mondays with the purchase of an adult meal. Now, I didn’t know this place even existed until I got this email, but when I saw malt shop, how could I resist?

Then it got even better, I found out they had unlimited fries with every meal. (Finally, a place I could take … (17 comments)

washington: Have you ever talked about something so much from your youth, you just decided to go back? - 09/21/10 08:27 PM

Ever since meeting my wife, I’ve always talked about this great burger dive I used to go to in college. I say it is the reason I actually gained so much weight in high school and became a fan of the dive burger and have been on a search to find the best dives around.
Well, a few months ago, while on our way back from Seattle, I decided to just pull off in Tacoma, Washington, and take my wife to that dive that helped me gain so much weight. Though it was a lot more expensive than I remember … (17 comments)

washington: Pearson Air Museum a look at the history of flight (Vancouver, Washington) - 09/19/10 04:31 PM
Now one thing amazing about Pearson Air Museum in Vancouver, Washington, is that is housed in the oldest wooden hanger still in use in the United States and the air strip is still in use. Most air museums are not at working airports, but this one is and some of the planes coming in and out are amazing!

The oldest wooden hanger still in use in the nation! One of the most famous people to have ever landed here was Charles Lindbergh, who flew over just after making his famous flight over the Atlantic, but later reported to have landed … (12 comments)

washington: A walk through history through the eyes of Fort Vancouver - 09/19/10 01:29 AM

Yesterday, Fort Vancouver had a really cool event where they walked you through history of the fort starting at World War II and going back to the earliest days of the fort when it was run by the Hudson Bay Trading company.
Now, this wasn’t just a normally history lesson. The people actually dressed in period clothes, talked and acted like they were there and were brought via a time machine to present day. Most would not break character and would even ask questions about my camera and how I was able to create a flash and what ship I … (17 comments)

washington: Does Big Foot really exist? Visit Ape Caves and you may get to see Big Foot! - 09/18/10 10:25 AM

Ape Caves in Washington State, near Mount St. Helens, was formed when Mount St. Helens blew, not in 1980, but a few thousand years earlier and was flowing lava and not ash. The flowing lava, as it cooled, created lava tubes that sat undiscovered for thousands of years.
Then in the early 1900s, a family who lived in the area discovered the caves and the boy scouts, who called themselves “The Apes” after the Pacific Northwest most famous “Ape”, Big Foot, ventured in and helped name it. What is amazing, is in these caves, you always have to where a … (19 comments)

washington: Activerain made me a professional photographer! - 03/07/10 01:26 AM

I couldn't believe it when I got the email, there it was, someone wanted to pay me to use my photo. This makes me a professional, well I guess not until I actually get the check. But, I have a lawyer writing a contract on exactly how the photo can be used and for how long. But, I have to say that when one of your first is used, it is really exciting. How did they find the photo? Activerain of course.

washington: The story behind the Dismal Nitch - 11/16/09 04:27 AM
A couple Saturdays ago I posted a "I don't feel like typing Saturdays"post with a picture of the Dismal Nitch and asked if you career was in one? But, because of that post I was asked by many, where it was and what it was all about. I have to admit when I stopped to get that at that sign, I didn't realize how important that spot was in America's history, but instead of what was supposed to be a 30 second stop for a great picture turned in to a 30 minute stop reading up on the Lewis and Clark … (17 comments)

washington: Never write an earnest money check to the agent directly or to CASH (Part 2) - 01/22/08 07:02 AM
This was sad for me to watch, because it sounded like to me they were looping anyone and everyone who did lease options or owner financing together as crooks, which just isn't the case. Some of us are really here to help people get in to the dream of home ownership.
If you didn't read my first blog about this, I suggest you read it before you watch the news video from KPTV. Here is the link to that blog.

Here is a link to the video by KPTV. I think they did a good job, but I wish they had expanded and … (4 comments)

washington: 2008 just got busier for me - I've been asked to write two books - 01/06/08 01:04 PM
I've heard others on here talk about multi streams of income and now it looks like I've been given that opportunity in 2008. You see I've been asked to write two books on real estate, including one on lease options and how to use it to invest your way to wealth.
I'm very happy to have been asked to do this, but I have to admit this is an undertaking that I'm not sure I'm ready for. I'm not exactly known as a writer as some of my favorites here on Active Rain are. But I've been told by my mentor that … (19 comments)

washington: Happy cow commercials cause depression and maybe even suicide - 11/10/07 05:05 AM
Have you ever seen the California cheese commercials? "Great cheese comes from happy cows." In these commercials they are always talking about how happy the cows are that are from California. The cows are warm and have plush grass year round.
Well, in eastern Washington this past week, a 600 lb cow allegedly fell off a cliff and landed on a mini van's hood that was traveling down the highway. Nobody in the mini van was injured, but I think there needs to be an investigation! Cows don't just fall off cliffs everyday. I think the cow was depressed and committed suicide. … (35 comments)

washington: This one is going to be a little corny, but… - 10/05/07 05:21 PM
My wife thinks I'm a little weird! (NO COMMENT FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY!) You see, I like things such as peanut butter and banana, and also peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. But, you know, you have to have something to drink those kinds of sandwiches down with, and thanks to a Washington company called Jones Soda, that has a knack for making up strange flavored soda's using pure cane sugar, I now have those drinks. But, for only the Halloween season.
You see, my wife was out shopping the other day, and came home with two new sodas for me to try. … (13 comments)

washington: Buying a home in Beaverton Oregon: Lease Options and Owner Financing a good opportunity - 05/15/07 05:41 PM
Some people are unable to get a home because of medical bills, divorce or just bad decisions in the past. This doesn't mean you can't get a home, it just means that you have to find someone willing to help you.
First of all I need to tell you that most people have better credit than they think they do. When someone calls me and tells me that they have to do a lease-option or owner financing because of their credit being too bad, I advise them to talk to a mortgage broker and get their credit checked by a professional. 75% … (0 comments)
