April 17, 2008 WebTV Realtor: Corpus Christi - Padre Island, Texas Mr. C. KIM McGuire's PC Gets Slammed for the Count! Even with use of best of the softwares to scan, fix, repair, and debug PC hard drives often, PC's can get slammed and be out of service for the count. This includes losing ALL the data on the hard drive (C:). I've been scanning, defragging, cleaning up, debugging, Spy Botting, etc. of my "C: Drive" every week to ensure optimal performance. Nevertheless, my relatively new HP Pavillion Multi-Media Center PC got slammed couple of days ago whereby the PC wouldn't start up using normal mode, "Safe Mode," last good start up settings, or any other way known by non-super geek. All data (email addresses, saved docs, electronic receipts, contracts, several thousands of photographs, videos, etc.) were LOST. I've kept "Active" files, folders, and data on the "C: Drive" and moved "older" files/folders to an external Western Digital "My Book" 1 Tera Byte (TB) Drive. Nevertheless, I thought that it was safe to leave "Active" stuff on the "C: Drive." Boy, was I WRONG in not having backed up/duplicated even the "Actives," including thousands of Email Addresses on Microsoft Outlook email management system. What a TERRIBLE and expensive mistake! I tried running the PC Recovery Disk in the CD bay, but NO go. The PC wouldn't start up Windows. The screen went BLANK and no key would do anything. I tried restarting the PC several times. NO go! After careful consideration using F10 key for PC diagnosis and being hopeful and saying my prayers, I read the PC information on running the Recovery, I pressed go for recovery. This is after I read where the PC recovery information which said that the files and folders created after the PC purchase would be saved and all programs loaded after the PC purchase would be lost. Well, I lost EVERYTHING! Estimated Cost of all data lost: $10,000 min. NOT a happy camper. LESSONS Learned: I'm backing up and duplicating important data! Which is nearly ALL info on my PC! Losing PC data CAN happen to Anyone! I'm down, but NOT out for the count because OPTIMISM rules always!
