active rain: Shouting My Own Secrets - Social Media Etiquette - 03/24/09 03:17 PM
Social media is not a disease but it can have an infection. I personally have been guilty of infecting social media but my lessons were (mostly) learned two decades ago when there was little forgiveness. Of course we didn't call it social media back then we called it by other names like USENET or BBS. Trust me, in 1989 you did not have to wonder if you may have stepped over some boundary - you knew it within seconds. We called them flames or flame wars. If you posted a link to your blog or an invitation to your event in … (11 comments)

active rain: Simple HTML Tutorial For Active Rain or Craigslist - Site Beautiful! - 02/10/08 04:56 PM
So you want to get fancy, eh? Well, fancy can be simple and it just takes a little practice. There are HTML (Hyper-Text Markup Language) editors and some really good WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors that can be used for this same purpose but that's not the scope of this very basic primer.
When I post on Craigslist I never like just plain text so I add a little HTML to spice things up. Oddly enough I don't do that here on AR but you certainly can and that's the reason there is the HTML tag at the … (28 comments)

active rain: Ruffled Feathers on Active Rain - Public Apology to Linda Futral - 01/28/08 01:02 PM
This is my public apology to LINDA FUTRAL, a Re/Max Agent in my great state of Georgia, for a comment I posted on her blog telling her readers what a great area she is in for real estate investors. (1/29 - I edited out some content just because as much as I wanted to say it and it may have even needed saying it was a little below me.)
My comment was this: "And Linda is in a PHENOMENAL market for Real Estate investors - just call me (or her) and I'll tell you why and why you can probably still … (21 comments)

active rain: Why Active Rain Can Save Real Estate - 12/20/07 06:35 PM
- When other blogs may not be able to.
Active Rain is truly community. The open forum has a great friend for real estate agents, loan officers, home stagers, title agents and attorneys, appraisers, inspectors--the list goes on. Not only do all of these people and the groups they represent have an equal voice here they each get to see inside the other's world.
It saddens me that still, outside of AR pretty much, agents and loan officers seem to be at each other's throats trying to lay blame. But here on AR we get this:
Blog post by agent: "Last month my closing … (78 comments)

active rain: Peaceful Thoughts and Blessings for all on Active Rain (or AR Beatitudes) - 01/13/07 09:11 PM
Just a few weeks ago I blogged on How Active Rain Changed My Life. And it has. And it still is changing my life - perhaps more than any other organization or group of which I am part.
I come here to relax, learn and share - in that order. Some postings I take personally and respond in kind. Oh, I do try and hold my tongue when it will only spew frustration. I do, after all, realize that I am not in the minority in Actively Raining for relaxation. And, our client base is reading.
The last couple of days have not … (6 comments)

active rain: How Active Rain Changed My Life - 12/21/06 12:12 PM
It is true. Active Rain has changed my life.
I joined back in July and immediately fell into the community spirit. Since then I have spent at least 30 minutes of every day reading postings and checking to see who the new members are and if there are any from my area.
I've spoken to a few other members on the telephone, received emails and phone calls from non-members who have read my posts and even met a few members in person. There have even been members and readers who have attended my seminars and for that I am grateful.
Since joining AR … (34 comments)

active rain: Active Persistence: Inspiring Quotes on AR About Persisting - 12/06/06 10:12 AM
Our inhouse mantra is "Hard Work and Persistence Always Pay Off" and the blurb below our logo for our weekly meeting notes is "Relentless Persistence With Focused Drive".
Because when I was a child I was never allowed to give up, though I did manage to give up on a couple of things because I was more persistent about quitting than my parents were in me not quitting, this has stuck with me through my years and now into my children's adult lives. Many times sticking to the plan and pressing toward the goal has been painful and sometimes I lost the … (0 comments)

active rain: Anonymous Posters: If You Know You're Wrong, Hide Your Identity? - 10/28/06 10:01 PM
I suppose if you are going to make erroneous comments with non-factual supporting data there is no better way to do so than to post anonymously. We're having a better exchange of ideas and opinion backed by factual data than I've encountered on AR or any other blog in quite some time. Jeff Corbett and I have had some great exchanges and Bryant Tutas is always there to chime in as are many more of you.
Then there is the anonymous poster who commented on Starbucks has nothing to do with Mortgages with an apparently cut and paste diatribe which had font … (4 comments)

active rain: My Own Little World - And That's All I Write From ;) - 09/06/06 11:52 AM
When my wife and I were enjoying a quiet evening some weeks ago we started talking about how people think we simply vanish from existance when they can't see or hear us then magically reappear again when they need us. I suppose my first revelation to this occurred when I was in elementary school and I saw my teacher at the grocery store. I simply couldn't imagine her anywhere except in my classroom but there she was in the cereal section!
Young people, especially, have little exposure to the greater world. As a child I thought everyone was just like us. I … (1 comments)
