motivation: I want my MTV! - 02/08/10 11:59 AM
Move it, move it. Money for nothing and your kicks for free. Don't you want your MTV?
I want my MTV and I think you will, too. One of my foremost goals, because it is the way I feed my family and build relationships with others, is to be the FHA home loan lender others can trust.
Like most others I like acronyms. Some of my favorite are those which spell words, those which make no sense at all (BLOG for example) and those others which take popular words or names and reassign the value of the letters. Several months ago … (5 comments)

motivation: If You Had Nothing To Fear ... - 12/05/08 11:02 AM
What would change?
Many years ago my uncle, Benjamin "Ben" Wilkes Hale, asked, "Son, let me ask you something. What would you do today if you had nothing to fear?" I gave him my answer and he replied ...
GO DO IT. THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR.
Well, I did. I'm not sure he was right about there being nothing to fear but that is not the point. The point is I did it and have been more successful than most of my competitors. Today there seems to be plenty to fear: the economy, the uncertainty of a new set of … (11 comments)

motivation: Don't Let Fear Steal Your Hopes - 11/10/08 10:02 AM
Fear is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, motivating factors for mankind. We are born with it as a natural defense to danger and other fears are input into us by our parents or others close to us during our developmental periods. My mother, for example, had a terrible fear of heights. When I was younger I was afraid to be three feet off the ground. To combat it my father, an Army Ranger, stood me on the top ledge of a 900 foot wall and held me by my waist. I was fine until my mother panicked and … (11 comments)

motivation: Rise And Shine - Opportunity Is Calling - Today We Campaign For Greatness - 01/28/08 07:10 AM
You may not feel aggressive or competitive but if you even read this much you are! Business, like life, requires at least one basic desire: To live and thrive!
It's never over - but it is constantly changing. Making the mistake of thinking you finally have it all figured out is usually a fatal act. At the very least it is incredibly crippling and most often results in a setback that, at the very least, makes you feel like you have to start over. A body that never changes is in a state of stasis - or death. What we want is … (6 comments)

motivation: Square Watermelons, Donut Holes, Recovered Fumbles & Your Career - 01/13/08 01:58 PM
Most motivational and inspirational speakers and writers give great examples of how life events parallel and how you can use the comparison in your personal world. Rarely do they give specific examples of what those comparisons can be. Today you will read three short stories as indicated by the title and various ways those can be compared to your world and used by you to change your business immediately.
Have you heard of the square watermelon? Perhaps one of the simplest examples of creating a solution for an industry challenge is the story of the square watermelon. No, it is not a … (15 comments)

motivation: Be Yourself As You See Yourself - Key One: Confidence - 12/11/07 07:05 AM
It is possible to be more successful one thought at a time.
When I was younger my mother would always say to me, "I know you can and you know you can you just need to prove it to others." Well, I did think I could but I didn't fee confident enough to do anything about it. Could what? Whatever it was I wanted to do. I had two obstacles to overcome: Knowing what it is I wanted to do and truly feeling confident enough to do it.
There were friends in my neighborhood and school who knew exactly what they wanted … (9 comments)

motivation: Both Barrels? Hmm, Should I or Not? If The Business Is So Bad ... - 11/26/07 10:36 AM
I told Broker Bryant and Renee Burrows I am going to try and always be nice and supportive and a motivator so I'm going to be at least one of those three right now. Every day I get spam from someone in the industry telling me how they are leaving the industry (real estate/mortgage) and have found this great new opportunity. Here is where I am supportive, encouraging and motivating:
GET OUT NOW - please don't suffer through another day
All of you who can't get over how bad the industry is, get out. You act like this is the first time the … (6 comments)

motivation: Can You Hear That Distant Rumble? A Good Thing Cometh ... - 04/17/07 11:54 AM
Let me begin by saying the majority of our owner-occupied lending is conforming purchase funding. We do some refinancing and some non-conforming but the majority of our business is builder, agent or investor referrals for new or previously owned acquisition. Let me also say that I know geography and business model also dictate how you are impacted by market changes like many have recently experienced.
I will begin with the more negative side and end with the truth of the matter about the very near future. For the last few weeks our phone call and application volume has been down about … (7 comments)

motivation: Peaceful Thoughts and Blessings for all on Active Rain (or AR Beatitudes) - 01/13/07 09:11 PM
Just a few weeks ago I blogged on How Active Rain Changed My Life. And it has. And it still is changing my life - perhaps more than any other organization or group of which I am part.
I come here to relax, learn and share - in that order. Some postings I take personally and respond in kind. Oh, I do try and hold my tongue when it will only spew frustration. I do, after all, realize that I am not in the minority in Actively Raining for relaxation. And, our client base is reading.
The last couple of days have not … (6 comments)

motivation: Time Limit on Loan Approval on GAR Contract? Okay, go ahead ... - 01/13/07 11:19 AM
OH MY GOODNESS! I spent a full hour typing a beautiful blog posting and got nailed by the world famous Windows blue screen of death. Gone, poof. Just like a bad loan at the 11th hour. I did all that work and got nothing from it. Just like a bad loan at the 11th hour. This originally started as a comment to Tim Maitski: On "New Georgia Contracts. Lenders Will Need to be Quicker"John Adam's show but grew into a post of its own. I hope I can remember what I had typed because it was gooooooood. Even though I was interrupted … (10 comments)

motivation: This is So Easy - Running a Successful Real Estate Business - 11/19/06 09:02 AM
Having a discussion with my wife last night as we sat around the fire pit, man's strange endeavor to bring a little of the wild into the city, she posed the question, "Why do you think so many agents and loan officers change jobs all the time at other companies?"
Great question! It probably has a little to do with why owners of other companies the size of ours have a net worth 5 times as great as ours; we reward our employees and associates to the highest level. If you read that as a braggadocios statement I so very humbly apologize. … (1 comments)

motivation: Holiday Season Has Begun - 09/01/06 08:47 AM
I'm sure each area of the nation has different periods of activity and market change. In Atlanta and most of the South "Holiday Season", or at least the atmosphere created by the series of Holidays to come, begins with Labor Day. That's our last big "lake weekend" or huge cookouts. Sure there are other days we'll go to the lake or have a cookout or whatever but this is the last big "hoorah".
The effect this collective consciousness has on prospective home clients is detectable. There are folks out there who are now looking for that new home where they can entertain … (3 comments)

motivation: Three Things Every Real Estate Professional (and human) Needs - 07/24/06 06:31 PM
So you're thinking, "What's this guy going to tell me that I don't already know?"Probably nothing. Sometimes it's about reinforcement. Sometimes it's just knowing that someone else understands. So many experienced people start out by saying something like, "I've been doing this for 25 years so I'm going to tell you blah blah blah blah blah." Then they leave you with the impression that if you deviate from their Commandments Of Living that you are a moron.False! We are all individuals and all have our own point of origin. By point of origin I mean the place in life you come from not … (2 comments)
