seo: 8 Facts About Duplicate Content and Google - 12/11/11 06:38 PM
EDIT 12-Dec: We're talking about duplicate *content* in significant numbers. After reading the comments I want to clarify - reposting your AR article to your hometown blog is not duplicate content. Creating 10 blogs and posting the same articles to them every day, day in and day out is duplicate content. Over the years I have addressed "duplicate content" at least 10 times here on this blog, another 5 or more times on Social Media Edge radio and no telling how many times at conventions and seminars where I have been speaking. It still comes up. Here are the facts, Googlesque,

seo: The science and reward of selecting the right keywords - 04/26/11 11:26 PM
"I am number one on Google", she proclaimed proudly. "For which keywords are you number one?" I had to know. Of course we all know what is coming, "For my name!" Which is? "Alavedia Vaazteroves." Sure, that's a silly intro yet it does paint the picture. Unless our very fictitious Alavedia has some celebrity chances are Alavedia Vaazteroves skews very low in Google search results. Which, for the purpose of this very short article, is our only concern. This will be simple enough for anyone to follow yet complex enough that some more seasoned bloggers and site owners or managers may

seo: Stop the myths about SEO - (stealing from the blind) - 11/27/10 04:09 PM
EDIT 11/29 - After thinking about this diatribe I will say at the level most of you/us are working even these guys can't do much harm. Unless you really want to be number one to five in a set of keywords that are highly competitive go ahead and support your friend. After all, anyone can make "Jonas Romeo Petaluma Real Estate" number one. When you get ready to be number one in a category like "nevada homes for sale" or "florida foreclosures" then you need to hire a seasoned, credentialed professional. There are so many fallacies with SEO inside the RE

seo: A big dollar SEO tip anyone can do - 04/28/10 03:46 PM
Usually when we give an SEO tip in an online chat like in Tuesday Thunder or during our weekly online radio show for the consulting group Social Media Edge we get responses like, "can you put that in English now?" Or "and how much is that going to cost me?" You will be very relieved to know the most important tip to help move you up in SERP is no more difficult for a complete novice than it is a seasoned pro. Seriously this is something you can do on your own with very little coaching. Agreeably most SEO consultants (even

seo: Be tops in SEO? You need FUR! - 04/16/10 11:21 AM
Oh great! A mortgage guy is going to tell me something about search engine optimization, right! Actually, you may well flip that statement around and say "an SEO guy is going to tell me something about mortgages, right!" Long before I was a full time, seasoned mortgage pro I was a computer science geek and owned one of the first hosting companies in Atlanta. As far back as 1988 I hosted a Mustang BBS service called UWDO and did my best to get my community interested in doing business online. Most BBSs back then were for gamers and porn addicts. UWDO was

seo: I have 200 Keywords, A Sitemap and I'm Still Not on Yahoo or MSN??? - 11/14/08 06:53 PM
Today I was doing a little experiment just before my lunch with Lane Bailey and I selected a random connection from Twitter to visit their website. My purpose was to see how they are doing with SEO. I was very impressed to see an "SEO" badge there which tells me for sure this person is very interested in doing the right things to dominate their market. But ... The sad truth is what I have seen from the majority of SEO specialists is no more than packing the site with keywords and relevant links - sort of - and possibly suggesting

seo: Gauging Trends For Your SEO With Google Trends (Working Examples) - 10/09/08 09:36 PM
Having a rent-a-website $35 per month. Having a custom developed website (that actually gathers information) $899. Being in the top three on Google, Yahoo and Live ... you guessed it. Priceless. For the last several years my money maker websites have been in the top 10 on at least two of the three almost every week for my most important key phrases. I have to admit I had a little inside information since I've been "online" since before there really was an "online". Then in 1994 I switched from BBS's to the brand new "world wide web" technology and eventually owned

seo: Congrats to SCOTT SCHANG! Top Post on The 24 - 08/10/08 10:22 PM
"Freddie Mac Makes Bold Moves to Encourage Workouts" is a grand slam hit for Scott Schang at The 24. Scott is the regular featured publisher on The 24 and proves why with this powerful submission. My personal favorite part of Scott's article is, "If you are having challenges making your mortgage payments or if you are troubled by the enormous amount of negative equity you're currently sitting on, don't hesitate to attempt a work out with your lender." And brother is he right! It looks like Scott, as is my Novation Mortgage, is helping people regardless of who their current lender

seo: Update from The 24 - Racking Up SEO - I Ranked 1, 2, 3, 5 & 7 on Google - 02/16/08 03:53 PM
There is a very simple way to really crank up your search engine ranking and a handful of us are enjoying it nicely! I have a nice paycheck coming next week from a loan I did in Florida because of this neat little trick that also happens to be a free resource to help build your internet presence in a great way. Let me share it with you now. The 24, if you don't know, is a blog with a limit of 24 of North America's most proficient bloggers. Many are bloggers who publish here at Active Rain as well. The purpose

seo: The Bot Wars - Squeezing for Google Juice - 02/10/08 09:17 AM
It may be easy for the Google Gurus to post contradictions to this because I don't read anything about Search Engine Optimization. Still, on my keywords for my market area I'm on the front page of almost every major search engine including the big G. Since I'm not a "student" of SEO but I have been doing web pages/sites since the old days of Quarterdeck's WebStar web server back in 1995 and BBS door coding all the way back to 1988 I think I have a pretty clear understanding of what PEOPLE look for on the 'Net and and HOW they

seo: Wanted: 23 Prolific Bloggers With Drive and Passion - 12/25/07 03:00 PM
We all know among the best reasons we blog are to share our experiences, our ideas, our viewpoints, and to lead others out of their darkness and into our light. Another truth, not so well known, is that blogging creates awareness and awareness can translate into business and real dollars. How many of you have multiple blogs? It doesn't matter if you do most of your writing on Active Rain, having other blogs strengthens your SEO results (search engine placement) and having those blogs be relavant to your industry is key. Not too often do new invitation only blogs come along that
