home decorating chicago: Reiterating the Model Home Effect in Home Staging Tactics in Tribune Today - 03/06/11 08:32 AM
Back in May I wrote a post on 10 Tips on How to make Your Next Listing Look Like a Model Home. Model Home Merchandising is all about creating a idyllic living atmosphere for that perfect buyer. Creating interior environments that speak to the prospective homeowner how they could live in this home. In today's Chicago Tribune, Real Estate columnist Mary Umberber reiterates that same process with with an interview with High-End Model Home Merchandising expert and Interior Designer, Mary Cook. It's a fabulous article, and brings home awesome points of how to stage a home like a Model - From first impressions to using

home decorating chicago: Stop Staging - Get Your Butt Outside! - 03/31/10 04:59 PM
Let us not forget that all work and no play makes us dull, non-inspired and well.... pale. We are all entrepreneurs for a reason, it gives us independence and control over our destiny. Make sure to get outside in your own back yard, celebrate the home that we work hard for each day. Spend a few hours, no i-pods, no blowers, just you and Mom Nature checking out Spring. Get up from that chair, put on your play clothes on; Hang out with your pets (or flock,) rake some leaves, plant some seeds - Feel the sun on your skin, the air in

home decorating chicago: The Stuff We're Made From - Creative Application to Your Craft - 06/01/09 04:44 PM
I know this is slightly off-key for an Active Rain Home Staging post - But I felt the need to share. It's not actually all the content that can be applied to our craft - But the creative process in which I gather the materials to create the end results. I'll be hosting my niece's baby shower in September. As I was going through magazines and books - I found these great recipes, twisted them slightly and came up with this month's recipes for the "Easy Gourmet" Cable TV show. ( Wghich I film once a month for a local Cable TV Channel.) Every show

It's now chic to be frugal. It's cool to conserve and you're a total faux paus to even consider throwing it all out and starting over. April 22 is Earth day and I think it's just awesome that we're collectively re-educating ourselves on how to be a bit more GREEN. home decorating chicago: Über Holiday Décor Tips - 12/13/08 08:52 AM
Furniture Arrangement for parties and gatherings...Whether a gathering is 6-60 your furniture arrangements in your public areas need to be redesigned. A formal living room can be arranged to serve as seating for dinner guests. Circular tables and chairs can be added and dressed with layers of coordinating tablecloths, place-mats and runners to serve as extra seating for dining guests.A foyer can host a bar; a family room extended dining, and a formal living room more than one conversation area. home decorating chicago: Keeping up with the Joneses - Topping off the Counter Top - 04/15/08 08:28 AM
Whether at a Staging Evaluation or teaching a Home Stage Workshop/Seminar, one of the most common questions I get is - "WHAT ARE THE TRENDS IN COUNTER TOPS?" My reply is always the same - if I'm wearing my Stager's hat I'll tell you "GRANITE-GRANITE-GRANITE," but when wearing my decorator hat I'll tell you "...We're so over GRANITE!" It's a predicament for those of us that wear more than one hat. As a decorator, it is our job to be privy to what is hip and happenin' in the field, but when it comes to staging a home, we're skilled to what is universally appreciated, valued and accepted. Top that off,
