Beating a dead horse: Open Houses - 08/31/10 11:01 PM
Colleen doesn't seem to like doing open houses much. I can never make up my mind about them. Sellers (especially the ones who want to over-price their home) seem to think they are great.

Five things that can save your closing day
Here are five things to consider to save closing time:
1) Don't rely on the existing survey without checking it yourself. (Sometimes lenders will get wind of changes and request a new one the day before closing -- but they can take 2 weeks to schedule).
2) Think ahead for last-minute bumps. Pepper your lender with questions about the kinds of things that have tripped up deals at the last minute for other folks.
3) Don't buy a car. Or a dishwasher. Or a piece of lumber. OK, that's a stretch, but you … (3 comments)

Double-dip housing bust? Heck, the first one's not done - 08/26/10 01:25 PM
Great points were made in John Mulkey's featured post about the false double-dip in the housing market.

It seems like the vocal economists of 2009 acted like they had vested interests in the market improving. Certainly, I always ignore government economists, but there were a lot of highly-regarded economists from the private sector who spoke of the "bottom" in 2009 and who look really foolish now.
