Realtor Etiquette...

This post is going to be a bit of a rant, so please forgive me.

As an agent who is also the office manager for RE/MAX EXCEL, I often answer the phones and schedule appointments. I have noticed lately an increasing amount of lack of appointment scheduling manners from agents.

Calling from outside a listing, wanting to get in to see it RIGHT NOW. Come on, you don't like it when people come to your house without notice, why would home sellers?
Calling me the same day as your showing when the showing instructions CLEARLY say 24 hours notice required for all showings, no matter what. I don't care if your client is the president of the United States, these tenants will not let you in without 24 hours notice. Don't get crabby at me, I don't make the rules.
Not calling and letting me know that you couldn't make it to a scheduled showing. Folks, I have been yelled at because agents didn't show up for the appointment and I didn't tell them. (Forgot my mind reader hat that day)
Not filling out showing feedback forms. I make it really easy, just fill out a simple email and return it to me. No printing and faxing, just click reply. Please help me out here, I make sure my agents fill them out and I personally fax them to you when required.
Acting condescending toward me on the phone, just because I am "staff" and therefore not important. Don't forget who really gets things done around the office. We do remember who treats us well, and we are more likely to help you out later when you are respectful ;)

Please just take a minute to think about manners, and treat others the way you would expect to be treated. Common courtesy goes a long way!!

Please keep the sidewalks and driveways of your vacant listings clear of snow and ice. Buyers don't want to have to go slogging through waist-deep drifts or risk broken bones from slips just to see inside! (and do we want our clients to have that liability?) Also, please make sure your lockboxes are easily accessible. This time of year it is not fun to get to the utility meter!

Bio

Robert Bowen has been successfully marketing himself since age 10 when he started his own lawn mowing company. He called it Bowen’s Mowin’ and his slogan was, You Grow It, We Mow It. Going door to door in his hometown of Beaver Dam, UT he began signing on clients. During the summer local residents of Beaver Dam recall him pushing his lawn mower up and down the road as he went from home to home performing a quality service at an unbelievably low price. Eventually he expanded to a riding lawn mower, and at age sixteen he upgraded to a truck and trailer to haul his equipment. Throughout his High School days, Robert’s friends thought of him as a work-a-holic as he continued to run Bowen’s Mowin’, he worked at a local service station as an esteemed “grease monkey,” he wrote articles for The Leader and The Standard Examiner, and he was a member of the school’s newspaper staff. As he did all of these activities he maintained a 3.4 GPA and a smile on his face. From a young age, Robert’s neighbors gave him the nickname of “Smiley” because he couldn’t seem to wipe the smile off his face no matter how hard he tried. As he grew up and continues to do so, his smile continues. One of Robert’s core beliefs is that you are doing something wrong if you aren’t having fun. In the winter you can find Robert up at Beaver Mountain trying to cut the first marks into the freshly fallen snow, playing in the snow in his front yard, or sitting around the fire drinking a hot cup of cocoa. Logan Utah foreclosure fraud alert

KSL reports that Utah is ranked 13th in the nation for foreclosures, seeing an increase of more than 70 percent from October 2007 to October 2009. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=4820359 With this increase, the State of Utah is seeing more and more foreclosure fraud cases. If you are at risk of losing your home, do you know how to spot this fraud?

Utahn’s are being approached by companies promising to rescue them from foreclosure, offering to pay off the delinquent mortgage if the property is deeded to the company. The homeowner is allowed to stay in the home as a renter, with the option to repurchase the home at a later time. Unfortunately, often the only thing the company does is cash out on the equity of the home, eventually causing the bank to foreclose on the home and evict the “tenant”.

Homeowners should be cautious anytime they are approached by anyone offering unsolicited help in saving their home or credit. They should always make sure they understand aspect of any deal they make, and if they are not sure what they are being offered is legitimate, they should talk to their lender or a qualified counselor.
