WASHINGTON - Speaking to the National Association of Home Builders Spring Board of Directors Meeting, U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan today announced that the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) will allow homebuyers to apply the Obama Administration's new $8,000 first-time homebuyer tax credit toward the purchase costs of a FHA-insured home. Donovan said that today's action will help stabilize the nation's housing market by stimulating home sales across the country.

The U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reported that single-family construction activity picked up in April compared to March, though the overall rate slumped to the lowest level on record due to a major slowdown in apartment construction.
The seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts fell 12.8 percent in April, to 458,000 units -- this rate is a projection of a monthly total over a 12-month period, adjusted to account for typical seasonal variation in construction activity.

King knows what hardship feels like. In the early 1970s, she was a single mother on welfare living in a trailer in Monroe. King had 33 cents left in her bank account.

The Senate Democrats are praising a deal on an MTA bailout. While they talk a lot about "One New York," the reality is they always put New York City first.
The $2.2 billion MTA bailout plan is a massive new mandate that will drive up property taxes, increase taxes on businesses and cause the loss of jobs throughout the MTA region. The bill would do little to reform the bloated and wasteful spending of the MTA.
