real estate client referrals: The Next Big Marketing Thing -- FourSquare?? - 01/06/10 07:58 AM
Being the mega-geek that I am, I'm more than willing to jump onto any technological geek-fest that seems like it might be fun to do or a cool way of connecting with other people. Some of them I like...some of them, not so much. But, one of the more recent ones that I am really enjoying lately is FourSquare.
FourSquare is an internet based location updater in a game-style format.  Basically, it works like this...
You are going to the grocery store. As you pull up, you grab your smartphone, activate the FourSquare app, and "check-in" at your destination. This will … (105 comments)

real estate client referrals: Memories At ActiveRain -- Being Thankful Isnt Bragging!! - 09/16/09 07:42 AM
After reading Robert Swetz's contest post, I knew exactly what post I wanted to enter with...Robert....Awesome contest.  Happy to be a part of it....and best of luck to all that enter!!Being Thankful Isnt Bragging, Is it??!!

First and foremost, this post really has nothing at all to do with real estate...more about life in general.  So, I hope no one is offended by the fact that I'm thankful as all Hell about what I have and I'm not afraid to tell the entire world about it.  Negative people be warned.
Secondly, you may learn more about me than you ever … (57 comments)

real estate client referrals: Confessions of a Tweetaholic! - 09/15/09 07:29 AM
Ok...I have a confession to make: I am a Tweetaholic.
More than that, I'm a BAD Tweetaholic.  I don't mean that I'm highly addicted to social networking (although that is certainly true).  I mean that I am guilty of using Twitter incorrectly.
Yup.  I'm a bad tweeter.
Twitter was originally designed as a micro-blog - a short snip-it of what is occurring in your life at this exact moment stylized in 140 characters or less.  So...nothing worth of a full-blown blog...but, a snapshot of what is happening right now.
"I'm at Starbucks meeting with clients"
"Just closed on a $372,000 home! … (67 comments)

real estate client referrals: Are "Open Houses" Dead In Your Area? - 08/25/09 07:41 AM
Working where I do, I have an opportunity to speak with agents all over the country about their local markets and the trends that are happening there.  One conversation I had yesterday prompted me to pose a question on our facebook page about open houses.
I was curious to know, "Are open houses were still a viable option for marketing a home?"  Or, are they are simply an avenue by which home owners feel special?  Are they really worth it?
I had an amazing response by several fans of the site...And thought it was worth sharing. And, as a result, I … (146 comments)

real estate client referrals: AAACCHHOOOO!!!! (And other bodily functions...) - 07/30/09 09:41 AM
Like many people, I suffer from seasonal hay fever.  And, like many people, I start stocking up on drugs, Kleenex, and eye drops in about March so I have enough on hand by May that I can survive until September.  The medicine cabinet in my house looks like the allergy aisle in Walgreens.
Allergies, as a whole, are a pain in the butt.  I have had them my entire life.  I had them so bad that, from the time I was 5 until I was 17, I had to have shots weekly to help build up my immune system enough to … (14 comments)

real estate client referrals: The Sins Of A Seller - 07/23/09 11:38 AM

Many of you know that I recently bought a home.
And, for those of you that don’t know that I recently bought a home…I recently bought a home.  Here’s proof.
Although we are very happy with our home we did purchase, during this process, I happened to notice that as we viewed house after house, I kept seeing the same things happen over and over.  And….not good things.  Bad things.  Bad things that were blatantly obvious to me.  Bad things that literally turned me off.  Bad things that were keeping this otherwise fine house I was standing … (220 comments)

real estate client referrals: 212 - The Magic Number - 07/07/09 09:14 AM
I often look for motivation and inspiration in as many places as I can.  One of the best I have found is the 212 movie.  www.212movie.com
(I mentioned in the comments that I have a book by this same company...and I highly recommend that anyone that likes inspirational material get a copy.)
But, aside from that, I truly believe it is impossible to watch this video and not get inspired to do more...to be more.

real estate client referrals: 10 Things Salespeople Say That Strike Fear In Clients - 10/01/08 10:06 AM
Regardless of how often Brokers or Sales Managers say not to do it, there are certain phrases that continually pop up during the course of a presentation/phone call/appointment that simply take a client's confidence and shake it to the very core.  Sometimes even to the point of losing your listing to another agent...losing that big sale...or even driving away an existing customer.
Having said that, I ran across a blog written by Brad Trnavsky, a sales and management blogger and all around guru on the subject (and if you don't believe me, go to his blog at www.salesmanagement20.com), that listed the … (35 comments)

real estate client referrals: Amazing Homes In Amazing Locations! (Eye Candy Like None Other!) - 09/03/08 07:38 AM
It's nearly impossible to speak to anyone in this profession that has not had an amazing or unreal listing at some point during thier career or while working with www.recr.com.
In fact, many of the agents I work with have regailed me with one yarn or another with regard to what wonderful homes they have had the pleasure of representing in thier history in real estate.
But, Im fairly certain that only a select handful of agents (if any at all) can say that they have had anything like these homes...These are INCREDIBLE!  Id Love To See The Listing Ads For … (13 comments)

real estate client referrals: Cats VS. Dogs.......The Choice Is Obvious. (Re-posted from the Friday Funnies File) - 08/29/08 09:29 AM
HOW TO GIVE A PILL TO A CAT
Sit on sofa. Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your elbow as though you were going to give a bottle to a baby. Talk softly to it. With right hand, position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. (be patient) As cat opens mouth pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow. Let go of cat, noticing the direction it runs. Pick the pill up off the floor and go get the … (26 comments)

real estate client referrals: Cream Cheese Chicken Enchiladas --- Yes, I Went There! (FOOD ALERT!!) - 08/27/08 07:23 AM
Many of you know that I'm a bit of a food guy.  And, being a food guy, I love to cook.  And, I think that any true cook likes to invent things that are pleasing both to the eyes and to the pallet.  And, have a good time while doing it.
With that being said, I wanted to share a creation that I think is one of the best mexican dishes Ive had the pleasure of experimenting with...Please feel free to take a copy of this recipe and try it at home...And let me know what you think of it!!

real estate client referrals: Thank God...Im Not Losing My Starbucks! Are You On 'The List'? - 07/18/08 09:55 AM
I just caught this on CNN...
Starbucks has released the entire list of the 600 stores that will be closing by the end of this year due to slacking performance.
Once I had heard this, I jumped on the website and found the list of stores.  Actually, none of the stores that are closing are in Montana...a surprising twist considering the deminished economic state that we are in up here.
Thank the stars that my triple-shot, half-caf, grande, low-fat, carmel, not-macho mocha is still going to be available for only $5 a cup because Lord knows that I surely cant live … (19 comments)

real estate client referrals: University Property Goes Up In Flames...Awesome Eye Candy Pics! - 07/15/08 09:48 AM
For those of you that dont know...Missoula is the home of the University of Montana (GO GRIZZLIES!!)   and the home of Real Estate Client Referrals (www.recr.com).  Many years ago, the University wanted to preserve some 'green space' behind the campus and purchased Mount Sentinel from the federal government and turned it into a nature preserve.  The mountain has been relatively untouched ever since.
Last Wednesday around 7pm, the University of Montana residents that live in the University Villages at the base of Mount Sentinel were treated to a spectacular show.  It was about that time that two little kids -- age … (22 comments)

real estate client referrals: Scooter Sales Skyrocket...Sent Soaring By Gas Prices! - 07/08/08 12:04 PM
What was once considered a novelty by motorists and cyclists alike is now a HUGE deal!
I was in the market for a scooter a few months ago and checked out this machine.  Nice ride...cost around $5k.
As gas prices have risen, my curiosity about this bike again surfaced.  So, I headed down to ScooterVille here in Missoula to see about getting my hands on a new ride.
NO DICE!!!
They are sold out.  SOLD OUT!  As in, I cant buy one even if they have one!  In fact, they are sold out until OCTOBER!!  (I dont know how much you … (16 comments)

real estate client referrals: To Those Agents That Say That Internet Leads Dont Work......A ThemThem/Testimonial From www.RECR.com! - 06/21/08 09:48 AM

I wanted to introduce one of RECR's newest (and probably, best) agents.....Dawn Craig.  Dawn has been doing real estate for the better part of five years...primarily all through internet "lead generation" style companies.
Tough row to hoe, as many of you already know...But, she has been able to pull off massive amounts of success, as you will read in the latest testimonial that she sent to me about www.recr.com.  Please remember, this lady has only been with my company since March...And only been in real estate for a short period of time.
"Since beginning in real estate over 4 yrs … (9 comments)

real estate client referrals: 1500 Comments Made...I Didnt Know I Could Type That Much - 06/19/08 04:24 PM
I was just reading JL's blog about wasting time with self pity...a very very funny blog that I highly recommend...
Anyway, I happened to hit my HOME button...And this what I see...

1500 comments???  When did this happen???  Well, I realize it just happened...Im not a moron.  My question is more like HOW did this happen...LOL.  I dont know that many people...Or at least I thought I didnt.  LOL!
The other thing I noticed is that I have had close to 1,150 inbound comments.  I didnt know that many people paid attention to the stuff I come up with..LOL!  So, to … (19 comments)

real estate client referrals: Going "Green" At The Office Starts With You! - 06/18/08 01:53 PM
Now, I consider myself fairly environmentally aware...I recycle things like cans and turn off my lights and things at home all the time.  I just feel better about leaving a smaller footprint on the planet for my kids to try and clean up.
But, I have noticed a disappointing lack of the same things at my office.  I never recycle anything at my office...and I took a good look around my office -- NO ONE DOES!  I was floored...And, according to a recent survey I found, as much as 40% of workers in America are irritated by the lack of 'green' … (14 comments)

real estate client referrals: You Know You Are From A Small Town When... - 06/17/08 10:31 AM
A lot of you guys know that I grew up in a really small town...
Now, "small" is a bit of a relative term...Im talking SMALL.  Like, less than 1,000 people.  There were 29 kids in my graduating class...That type of small.
If you want to know, its Plains, MT.  ...Tiny little town on Hwy 200 about 75 miles west of Missoula.
Anyway...I tripped over the following list the other day and nearly hospitalized myself laughing over how true it really is...and I just had to share. You know you are from a small town when...

real estate client referrals: Why Doesn't ActiveRain Have A Color Pallet?? - 06/13/08 10:09 AM
I have always been a fan of a classic look for blogs...White Space.  Black text...maybe a little bolding or italics for effect...a picture or two...
But, lately I have seen numerous blogs with colored text.  And I have questioned how that happened since AR doesn't have a color pallet for text.  Of course, I have found out that people are using outside tools to augment the colors of the text.  But, this poses a question:
Why doesn't AR have a color pallet for text?  It seems like it would be a simple addition to the blog feature that people would really … (16 comments)
