pompano beach: Near Palm-Aire, Collier City park plans hit snag in Pompano Beach

An 11.5-acre park planned for Collier City, an area some residents say is neglected by the city, might be too good to be true. The city and the donor of the large piece of undeveloped land, J.P. Orleans Development LLC, can't agree on the terms of the donation.
The company wants the city to spend $1.5 million building a road to get to the land, which now is inaccessible and boxed in by other developments. That would give J.P. Orleans access to the rest of its land, about 60 acres on which it plans to build homes or apartment buildings.

The city is holding a contractors forum from 9 to 10:30 a.m. this Tuesday at Pompano City Hall in order to get comments on ways to improve its permit process. The forum follows one held last year and is open to residents, contractors, developers, business owners and builders. Over the past half year, officials with development services have been working to implement recommendations from the previous forum, so here is your chance to be heard if you are in the industry or have something to say.

Along with the new 7 million dollar regional library underway near Pompano City Hall on Atlantic Boulevard, the city may be planning on building a 300 to 600 seat theater and cultural arts center. Vice Mayor George Brummer stated that a complex such as this could stimulate redevelopment in the area. Plans are underway to see if the city and the county will allow the theater and I will be sure to update you once they have.

The next time that you're driving down the Florida Turnpike near Sample Road take a look at the landfill popularly known as Mount Trashmore. You will find that they have installed a H O L L Y W O O D sign on it!
They are filming a new movie called "Rock of Ages" this summer starring Tom Cruise, about a hair-band era rock star. The film will also feature some other great talent like Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Paul Giamatti. The film is slated for a June 1st, 2012 release.

Pompano Beach man claims that he copyrighted the famous melody played through out the United States in just about every sporting event. The Charge! melody is now under dispute by the man who claims to have written it, Bobby Kent of Pompano Beach, FL.
If his claim has merit then he could stand to make thousands a year in royalties. More as things unfold...

Yesterday Roberta Wieder and I attended a luncheon at the East Room in Palm-Aire Country Club at the invitation of Palm-Aire Friends of the Arts. I was suprised to be handed a plaque of recognition and thanks for our support to this charitable organization over the years. Wieder Realty gladly helps them out by covering the costs of some of their printing, so they can continue doing the services that they provide.

That's right! Jerry Lewis was a big fan of Palm-Aire Country Club when it was still brand new. He is just one of the many famous people who would visit Palm-Aire, however I think he is one of the few that actually filmed part of a movie here.

Good news! I have read two articles today that bought reflect favorably on the recovering 2nd home market. Apparently vacation homeowners and investors are buying proportionally more homes than those of primary homeowners.
I can tell you from personal experience in my real estate office in Pompano Beach that investors and 2nd home buyers were the first segment to halt buying when the market crashed. In fact I saw them stop buying approximately 6 months before the down turn was "official". My market in Palm Aire Country Club was at a near standstill when 2nd homeowners

According to an article yesterday in the Sun Sentinel newspaper, a new 10 acre Sports Complex is potentially in the works on the northwest side of Atlantic Boulevard and Powerline Road. The land was donated by Palm-Aire Associates, which also plans to build a 907 unit project at 3401 W. Atlantic Blvd. However, there is no guarntee that the project will be approved by the city advisors given the overall costs.
