activerain: Where do I start? At the end of course. - 04/19/11 10:24 PM
End.  Beginning.  Beginning.  End.
Life.  Death.  Endless circles...alright, I'll cut the nonsense.  I'm here to wish you all farewell.  I'm leaving ActiveRain.  My reasons are varied, but none are earth shattering.  There is no sudden "I hate ActiveRain" swagger down here in San Antonio.  No, in fact I leave with good memories of my time here.  From meeting new friends, to learning new things, to debating with some of the best of them on the issues that our industry faces everyday.  I've loved all (well, almost all) of my time here.
I credit ActiveRain with really helping me find a voice … (22 comments)

activerain: Our friend and fellow ActiveRain member Clint Miller. - 02/16/11 10:46 PM

I'll keep my words to a minimum as I've said much of what I needed to on Facebook, Twitter, and on my own blog, but if you know Clint Miller, you'll know why posting this video means a lot to me.  I hate cancer and I want Clint and his family to know we're out here. We all know Clint is a tough one, but our support is needed.
Please, take a moment to visit the Clint Miller Benefit site and please donate what you can.  His family is bringing us reports as often as they can on Clint's condition.

activerain: Congratulations to my friends at ActiveRain. - 01/17/11 09:20 AM
Well done ActiveRain.
They say milestones are important to note and mark down in the annals of history.  Your achievements should be advertised and celebrated.  You should never forget where you came from in order to focus on where you're going.
Today is a big day for ActiveRain.  For the community, the staff, the architects, and the members.
The 200,000 mark has been reached.
ActiveRain has gone through quite a few changes since I first came aboard and even when they haven't been widely cheered, ActiveRain has always worked hard to do the best for their members.  From the growing pains … (7 comments)

activerain: Blurry vision at ActiveRain: Do I need glasses? - 12/05/10 08:56 AM
Tegley ???
I love CAPTCHA codes.  I found this one this morning while here on ActiveRain and had to laugh.  I wrote my message, started to type the letters from the CAPTCHA and then realized I had absolutely no clue what the second word was.  I think there's an "m" and a "y" at the end there, but that's about all I could see (or guess).  In addition to the usual non-sensical words that appear, I've found many instances where the words were more like an ink blot test.
Did you know?
Although it seems like it would be fairly obvious, … (37 comments)

activerain: ActiveRain Success Story: The Times They Are A Changin' - 12/04/10 03:49 PM
Previously, on ActiveRain...
I wish I had thrown a date in the ActiveRain Success Story (quoted below) that I wrote.  It seems like I wrote it about fifty years ago (I haven't even been alive that long, despite what you may think), but I'm guessing it was somewhere around a year ago, maybe more.  My time at ActiveRain has been fruitful; bringing me clients, friends, and contact with all sorts of influential people in the real estate industry.  It's garnered me recognition, both as a Realtor® and a blogger/tech-geek.  It's made me money and cost me nothing (other than a few … (6 comments)

activerain: *tap, tap, tap* Is this thing on? - 12/04/10 08:06 AM

When a new blogger speaks.
I've had a few conversations with Eric Michael outside of ActiveRain recently, so was happy to see his first post.  It's never easy taking that leap of faith and writing your first one, especially when you get that nagging doubt that says "who will care" and "who wants to read what I have to say?"
I applaud anyone who takes that first step, but since I've spoken to Eric, I thought I'd applaud him a little more publicly.  I think he'll be just fine...

activerain: ActiveRain Housekeeping - 11/25/10 09:44 AM
Quiet day, time to clean.
I've been taking some time this morning to do a bit of housekeeping on several of my sites and ActiveRain is no different.  I thought I'd add a few new things, clean up a bit of code, and make a few things better.  No major surgery, just a few tiny things you probably wouldn't even notice.
New Links.
I've neglected the links in the sidebar to the right for sometime now and haven't added or updated them.  I probably haven't changed them since I first put a few up there.  I wish I could organize them … (13 comments)

activerain: Linking outside ActiveRain - 11/23/10 02:24 PM
Linking to members' posts.
A few weeks ago, while referencing a few articles by other ActiveRain members, a thought occurred to me.  I spend a lot of time linking to articles, posts, and profiles of people whose blogs I read.  I'm a big fan of crediting authors who inspired me to write something or who I may have quoted.  Most of you do as well, especially when a post here at ActiveRain gives you an idea for your own post.
If you've read anything about SEO, you know how valuable incoming links are to a site.  The more your site or … (49 comments)

activerain: Ambassador Series: Putting Email Links into Your Blog Posts on ActiveRain. - 10/28/10 11:49 AM

Email links in your blog posts - want spam?
This morning I happened upon a post by Kathy Nielsen, a home stager in Georgia, about embedding email links into your blog posts.  While her instructional post was dead on and explained step by step how to embed email links into your blog post, I had to leave her a comment.
Back in my rock and roll days, I was also the webmaster for the band's web site which received about a million visitors a month (at our peak, we had several months that topped five million).  Being a webmaster, I … (44 comments)

activerain: Can I Do It Two Years In A Row? Help Me Get To BlogWorld and New Media Expo 2010! - 09/20/10 09:41 AM
If you thought I was crazy last year...
BlogWorld and New Media Expo 2010 is fast approaching and while I didn't plan on attending this year, yet another contest has surfaced that gives me a chance to attend.  Izea is offering up passes, airfare, and hotel to this year's event and I want to go!  You may remember last year's contest via Alltop in which I came in second place.  I had a great time at BlogWorld 2009 and learned lots.  This year will be no different, except this year, I want to come in first place.
Part of last year's … (5 comments)

activerain: Can A Brain Be Over Stimulated? (Tom Ferry Success Summit 2010 - Anaheim, CA) - 08/26/10 12:57 AM
Tom Ferry's Success Summit 2010.
I'm at Tom Ferry's Success Summit right now.  I'm in my hotel.  I'm at my computer.  My brain is dancing around in a spinning motion at about 5,000,000 RPM.  It's not a bad thing.  Not at all.  I have a kajillion blog posts I want to write, telling you all of the thoughts flying through my head right now.
But I'm not going to.  Not yet.
Instead, I wanted to take a few moments to thank Tom Ferry, his staff, the ActiveRain staff, and everyone I've met in the last two days and all those that … (9 comments)

activerain: New Look For "States" Page Causes A Ruckus. - 07/19/10 01:29 PM
Don't mess with Texas.
I happened upon Karen Anne Stone's post, "Once Again Active Rain "Fixes" Something that Wasn't Broken!," before it was featured and before I had even seen the new look for the States page.  After reading the post and comments, I had to see what all the ruckus was about.
What I found was a neat, clean looking page that encouraged involvement from consumers and members alike.  Gone was the "pat on the back" of who is number three or fifty, which might "de-motivate" some people, but I think to myself - if that de-motivates them, then are … (14 comments)

activerain: Go Ahead and Impress Me, I Dare You. - 06/30/10 05:59 PM
The theory of "Called Shots."When Brad Andersohn introduced the new "Called Shots" badge on ActiveRain a few days ago, I thought it was a great idea.  The potential to flag posts for feature status has always been there and I've used it many times in my time here at ActiveRain.  While there is always a raging debate over what gets featured and why (and who), the idea is to write great content and give readers something of value in each in every post. With the introduction of a coveted ActiveRain badge dangled in front of the network's members, I suspect the flagging … (50 comments)

activerain: Spies Like Us: Alleged Russian spy was ActiveRain member. - 06/30/10 10:49 AM
Did I just see what I thought I saw?
Last night I was watching the ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, catching up on the usual tidbits - the oil spill, the hurricane, and the Russian spy case.  As a kid who grew up in the 70s/80s and someone who has been to Russia several times, I'm interested in this sort of stuff.  I actually had a former KGB agent as a bodyguard while traveling through Russia and saw the changes in Russia between my visits there, so you can imagine how fascinated I am with the Cold War tensions between … (80 comments)

activerain: Dear ActiveRain - Facebook makes this place look messy. - 06/19/10 10:36 AM

Dear ActiveRain,
I know everyone wants the Facebook "like" buttons everywhere on the web these days, but the layout of ActiveRain has been compromised ever since you added it.  Any chance you can fix it?  It just looks kind of out of place.  Functionality is always a good thing, but never at the cost of form.  I noticed it awhile ago, but finally decided I couldn't take it anymore.  I'm begging, please take me back to the days when the layout was a little neater.
Thanks,
Matt Stigliano

activerain: If you didn't read it, you can't truly react to it. - 05/05/10 12:57 PM

Have you heard a single word I said?
Immediately after reading the title, I suspect everyone will think that I am talking about me, but I'm really just making a generalized statement here.  It occurred while reading a post by a fellow ActiveRain member that (strangely enough) was a re-blog of something I had written.  I had forgotten the post, so I quickly re-read through the re-blog.
The fellow blogger had written a great intro to my post and shared some of their thoughts and feelings about what I had written - in my opinion, the only way re-blogging should … (73 comments)

activerain: ActiveRain - Thoughts on Recent Dark Days. - 05/04/10 12:27 PM
Has the darkness ended?
Obviously, if you've been on ActiveRain for more than a minute in the past few weeks, there's been a lot of talk about the dreaded downtime that has made ActiveRain an aggravation at times.  I've been blogging here since late 2008 and have had an up and down relationship with ActiveRain.  On one hand, I love the opportunities it has provided me and I have enjoyed the many people I have met through the network.  On the other hand, I have been frustrated by the reoccurring problems and sometimes have been forced to wonder if the SEO … (9 comments)
