community: Punk Rock and the New Agent - Friendship and Family - Xplode Austin - 02/12/11 12:42 PM
Download the complete slideshow from the Xplode website. Friendship and Family - Community Amongst Realtors® and Punks. Punk was not a mainstream movement. Disregarding the commercial system of the music industry, punk had to find it's own way to build both fans and a distribution network for their music. In order to sustain their own survival, punks had to build friendship and family amongst themselves, their fans, and the various related industries (record stores, promoters and venues, college radio, etc.). With real estate, we are constantly building community; whether amongst our peers and the related industries or our clients

community: ActiveRain Success Story: The Times They Are A Changin' - 12/04/10 03:49 PM
Previously, on ActiveRain... I wish I had thrown a date in the ActiveRain Success Story (quoted below) that I wrote. It seems like I wrote it about fifty years ago (I haven't even been alive that long, despite what you may think), but I'm guessing it was somewhere around a year ago, maybe more. My time at ActiveRain has been fruitful; bringing me clients, friends, and contact with all sorts of influential people in the real estate industry. It's garnered me recognition, both as a Realtor® and a blogger/tech-geek. It's made me money and cost me nothing (other than a few

community: Can A Brain Be Over Stimulated? (Tom Ferry Success Summit 2010 - Anaheim, CA) - 08/26/10 12:57 AM
Tom Ferry's Success Summit 2010. I'm at Tom Ferry's Success Summit right now. I'm in my hotel. I'm at my computer. My brain is dancing around in a spinning motion at about 5,000,000 RPM. It's not a bad thing. Not at all. I have a kajillion blog posts I want to write, telling you all of the thoughts flying through my head right now. But I'm not going to. Not yet. Instead, I wanted to take a few moments to thank Tom Ferry, his staff, the ActiveRain staff, and everyone I've met in the last two days and all those that

community: If you didn't read it, you can't truly react to it. - 05/05/10 12:57 PM
Have you heard a single word I said? Immediately after reading the title, I suspect everyone will think that I am talking about me, but I'm really just making a generalized statement here. It occurred while reading a post by a fellow ActiveRain member that (strangely enough) was a re-blog of something I had written. I had forgotten the post, so I quickly re-read through the re-blog. The fellow blogger had written a great intro to my post and shared some of their thoughts and feelings about what I had written - in my opinion, the only way re-blogging should

community: ActiveRain - Thoughts on Recent Dark Days. - 05/04/10 12:27 PM
Has the darkness ended? Obviously, if you've been on ActiveRain for more than a minute in the past few weeks, there's been a lot of talk about the dreaded downtime that has made ActiveRain an aggravation at times. I've been blogging here since late 2008 and have had an up and down relationship with ActiveRain. On one hand, I love the opportunities it has provided me and I have enjoyed the many people I have met through the network. On the other hand, I have been frustrated by the reoccurring problems and sometimes have been forced to wonder if the SEO

community: I Need Your Help. Your Reward? Great Blogs With Great Info. REBlogworld/Blogworld Expo In Las Vegas! - 09/27/09 12:23 PM
photo courtesy of nodomain1 I love blogging. You may have noticed before, but it's a fact, I love to blog about real estate. It's good for my business, but I actually find it enjoyable too. In that vein, I would like to make it to this year's Blogworld and New Media Expo (including REBlogworld). Of course, these things cost money and there are expenses...blah blah blah. However, Alltop is sponsoring a contest to allow 3 lucky winners to attend this year's event. I entered, but I need your help. First of all, I misread a rule, which has seriously put

community: Looking for local San Antonio neighborhood information and photos? - 09/06/09 08:41 AM
San Antonio Neighborhood Information At Your Fingertips San Antonio is a big place, with lots of neighborhoods throughout the city (and plenty on the outskirts of the city that we call "San Antonio," but are technically not part of the city). Trying to figure out where to live and getting information on local neighborhoods can be a daunting process. Even as a San Antonio Realtor®, I am constantly discovering new neighborhoods and learning about brand new subdivisions all the time. In an effort to help buyers, whether they have lived here all their life or are just relocating to our area,

community: What is ActiveRain? My rambling answer to Jonathan Washburn. - 08/28/09 07:07 PM
photo courtesy of tboard Your assignment? Define "what is ActiveRain." Seems simple enough, right? ActiveRain is a community of real estate professionals that blog, talk, share, and refer. Ok, I'm done. There's my submission. But, it doesn't seem right. Seems like it's an incomplete answer. Seems to simple for something so complex. Might not really be a good representation of what it means. Jonathan Washburn asked the question "What is ActiveRain?" about a month ago on his blog and I foolishly read it. Of course, I say foolishly, because I knew I couldn't just drop a quick comment in there

community: Congratulations ActiveRain Ambassadors - 07/13/09 09:34 PM
What can I say? I feel like I need to make an acceptance speech and start thanking everyone on earth that I can think of. But instead, I've chosen to say a few simple things. ActiveRain - Thanks. I'm honored to in this group and think it's going to be a great time. I appreciate all you've done for me (both as a network and on a personal level in interacting with you at different times). Ambassadors - I look forward to seeing what we all can do. I've said it before, but I truly think some of the businesses

image courtesy of GoogleMaps, Mueller Labs, and RErockstar.com Introductions are in order. First, let me introduce everyone that doesn't know him to Mike Mueller. Mike is (as he says) a "Social Media.ist" - he'd probably never claim to be an "expert" or "guru," but I would definitely vote for him as one of the top social media people who get it, love it, live it, learn it and teach it. Mike's been invaluable to me as I've been learning new things. Always one to comment on a new idea I have or tell me how I could improve something I've

photo courtesy of Eustaquio Santimano Forums, bulletin boards, and message boards. Today's task (well, yesterday's as of this post) was to join a forum in our niche and get involved. The theory is that its a great way to connect and grow your sphere of influence as well as "be yourself" and attract others to your blog. I did the task, but I have some mixed thoughts on it. Realtors® Not Welcome. I find most community forums are not super Realtor® friendly. I don't blame them either. Given the chance, most agents would flood the boards with their listings, advertisements

community: San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger to launch ambitious plan. - 01/07/09 02:46 PM
photo courtesy of b r e n t With the coming State Of The City address, Mayor plans to launch "Mission Verde." As with all mayors these days, Mayor Phil Hardberger is facing the tough challenges of balancing budgets, keeping workers at work, and running a city that is growing everyday. In his State Of The City address he is poised to place San Antonio at the forefront of green technology. In laying out the groundwork, he will probably also go down in history as one exceptionally forward thinking mayor. I applaud his efforts and welcome the goals that our

photo courtesty of Jef Poskanzer Sometimes the ideas come at weird times. I was out at a friend's house last night, eating homemade salsa and playing games (Battle of the Sexes isn't worth the paper its printed on, just my opinion). It was a great night and it was a nice way to spend a weekend that has been full of work. Relaxing to say the least. Of course, my mind often wanders to real estate and my friends often bring the topic up, so despite the fact that I was "off the clock," my mind was still running. It

In light of my recent posting about the stray cat living under my deck and the response to it, I thought I'd write a little about my favorite place in San Antonio for pets and the care for the animals that get left behind. I'm speaking of the Animal Defense League. I had never heard of the ADL when I moved to San Antonio, but thanks to Mike Osterhage and KSAT12 News, I quickly became familiar with them. Every Thursday morning on "Good Morning San Antonio" at around 6:15AM,

2903 Zurich has just become available at Woods Of Alon. "The Overland" floor plan from the Trails Collection of KB Home, this house has the optional fourth bedroom upstairs. A total of four bedrooms and three baths, an open floor plan connecting the kitchen, dining room, and living room in one giant living area, and spectacular views make this an amazing "move-in" ready home in the Woods Of Alon community. Check out the views of the lake available from almost all the downstairs bedrooms (including the master) and relax on the covered patio out back. While sitting out side, enjoy

community: Sundance Trails and Sundance Ridge face new home plans - 11/29/08 10:50 AM
image courtesy of tilaneseven KB Home's recent announcement of plans to build smaller homes in community stirs up a lot of feelings. KB Home decided to build some new floorplans in their community at Sundance Trails and Sundance Ridge recently and it has been causing a bit of a stir. The communities, located off Potranco outside the 1604, started with brick front homes and two or three car garages ranging from $125,000 and went up into the $200,000s. Now KB Home is moving in with floorplans starting at $93,995 that are smaller and may be built with siding instead of

community: Woods of Alon - A view of the community - 11/28/08 07:26 PM
I had taken some extra photos last week while at KB Home's Woods Of Alon that I wanted to share with everyone. These aren't quite as exciting as the photos of the house, because most of what they show are the empty lots, but I actually find this a bit exciting. Its an empty canvas, waiting for a homeowner to build their dreams and their lives in the most exciting community in San Antonio. A community designed around the theory that you should be able to walk to the shops, restaurants, and parks. A community that saves native trees on

community: KB Home's Woods Of Alon - 11/16/08 09:08 AM
Anyone who knows me, knows I am a big fan of KB Home's Woods of Alon community at NW Military (just south of Wurzbach). I have been holding open houses there for the past month on on of their inventory home (2919 Zurich) and you can find me there just about every weekend from 12-3. Why do I love the community so much? A different idea of a community. Woods Of Alon takes the idea of "community" to a new level. KB Home is building walking trails throughout the communtiy, including one that will connect to the new Alon Town Centre
