conversation: Don't Let Me Down: Soci@l, Ben Kinney, and Blogging - 07/01/10 11:49 AM
It's not always sunshine and roses. In my previous post about Ben Kinney's Soci@l, "10 Days of Pain for 1 Day of Closing," I highlighted one of the sections of the ebook that I really enjoyed. Never one to give half a picture, I thought perhaps I might discuss something I didn't like about the ebook. Ben Kinney is obviously a talented guy who knows his stuff and although I agree with him on many points, there is a distinct point in the chapter "effective blogging – writing content that ranks and gets read" that I can not endorse. Spending your

conversation: Are Your Clients "Thinking" And "Hoping"? - Seeing Two Words In A New Light - 12/08/09 02:57 PM
photo courtesy of mollypop Finally...a connection. I had a call today from Stacy Jones of The Jones Team in Katy, Texas, we've been trying to connect for awhile now, but today we finally spoke. It was a conversation about real estate and technology (mostly websites) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's always great connecting with other agents and just sort of bouncing ideas and thoughts back and forth. The call went on for about an hour and I think we both took away a few things while chatting. Sometimes in the middle of a conversation about something, a light goes

conversation: Why Twitter's One-Click ReTweet Feature Is Absolute Garbage. - 12/03/09 02:13 PM
photo courtesy of BenedictFrancis I'm unhappy with Twitter. Twitter recently introduced a new feature - a one click retweet feature. For those that have been using programs like TweetDeck and Seesmic Desktop, this is nothing new. I've long hoped Twitter would create a one-click feature for retweeting, as I do quite a bit of it on my RErockstar Twitter account. I use retweets to pass on interesting information, follow up on someone's comment, and share real estate news with my fellow agents and San Antonio locals. A few days ago, I tried the retweet feature. I clicked the button and

conversation: Ambassador Series: Soft Connecting With Consumers - 10/27/09 09:50 AM
image courtesy of Twitter, Gimp, and my own conversation with a local consumer Talking to the consumer...not at them. Recently, I had a conversation with a local about their home that resulted in a post about "For Sale By Owner" homes in San Antonio (and beyond). I was pretty proud of the post as I thought I covered the topic pretty well, but after walking away from the post, I realized something was missing. The person who had inspired the post would probably never read it. Sure, we talk on Twitter, but do they really pay attention to my posts?

conversation: Ambassador Series: Writing Featured Posts On ActiveRain - 08/04/09 10:00 PM
photo courtesy of adamr.stone When you wish upon a gold star... Ahh, the coveted gold star at ActiveRain. It's a mark of pride, a influx of new readers, commenters, and even points. It's a good feeling. My last two posts received a feature and they were about as different as monster trucks and the Grand Canyon. I've been doing alright in the feature category since coming to ActiveRain, so I thought I'd take a few moments to analyze some of the things I've learned about ActiveRain Featured Posts. 1. Don't be afraid to be yourself. - In one of my

conversation: The Tap Exhchange - San Antonio's Place For Beer, Food, and Conversation. - 07/31/09 10:45 AM
The Tap Exchange in San Antonio, Texas. The Tap Exchange isn't your typical "drink 'em as fast as you can pour them" bar. It isn't your typical "we're all wearing turtlenecks and drinking martinis while listening to ambient trance" bar. This isn't your typical "dive" bar. It's not even your typical Texas "icehouse." The Tap Exchange is a "pub" in the greatest sense of the word. Having traveled the globe and drank in some of the best pub's on earth, it's something I consider myself an expert on. Having an English wife only makes me a little more of a pub-aficionado.

conversation: Re-defining ROI in the age of social media. - 06/20/09 06:27 PM
1910-1920 photo of the Investment Building in Washington, D.C. courtesy of NCinDC What's the return on your investments? After attending, the SABOR Town Hall Meeting and listening to Sean Wood and Rich Teplitsky of KGBTexas speak on the topic of social media, I've been doing a lot of thinking about some of the things I noticed while I was there as well as some of the snippets of conversation that my ears overheard from other people's small groups as they were gathering and getting ready to go. Some of the audience was there to get an idea of what social

conversation: Thoughts From The Roundtable - My Thoughts On Jeff Belonger's Post - 06/17/09 02:22 PM
photo courtesy of ogilvyprworldwide Great posts, bring forth great ideas. This morning brought with it a new post by Jeff Belonger. I like Jeff. I don't know him other than his writing and some comments back and forth, but I like his style. He's one of those guys who has idealism, a sense of what's right and what's wrong, a strong opinion, and a desire to make real estate and more specifically lending better for all. At least that's my take on him. His post this morning, "Call to Action - We must fix the real estate market ourselves !!!,"

conversation: Video - Just How Many Uses Are There? - 06/15/09 09:05 PM
photo courtesy of Sue Richards Blogging can be a great connector. We all know we can connect with so many people through blogging. Many of us maintain two, three, even four blogs. Some people go beyond that and maintain even more. Then there's Twitter, Facebook, MyBlogLog, ActiveRain, forums, and odd little nooks of the internet that we find ourselves communicating in. The more you do, the more you're out there in the cyberworld...hopefully connecting, making meaningful relationships, and even generating business. Vlogging is a connector and can be used in a million ways. So far, I've used vlogging to speak

conversation: 31 Days To Build A Better Blog Challenge - Day 9 - 04/15/09 09:07 AM
photo courtesy of Eustaquio Santimano Forums, bulletin boards, and message boards. Today's task (well, yesterday's as of this post) was to join a forum in our niche and get involved. The theory is that its a great way to connect and grow your sphere of influence as well as "be yourself" and attract others to your blog. I did the task, but I have some mixed thoughts on it. Realtors® Not Welcome. I find most community forums are not super Realtor® friendly. I don't blame them either. Given the chance, most agents would flood the boards with their listings, advertisements

conversation: Home Stagers: Do You Offer a "Guaranteed to Sell" on your Home Staging Work? - 02/12/09 07:58 PM
I seem to be on a re-blog trend today. I got involved in this post recently when I happened upon it in the current posts. I read it and commented. My comments caused some more comments and the post has now become a very interesting discussion about staging. I know little about staging, so for me, this has been an exciting series of comments. Since I know some agents might have skipped over this blog because they didn't think it was something for them, I thought I'd re-blog it and hope that some more agents might join the conversation and

conversation: Honk if you love ActiveRain. - 01/20/09 01:36 PM
photo courtesy of Yogi I was still half asleep, but there he was. I've been following the tale of Richard Bowman lately as he blogs about his daily work on the streets of San Antonio. Richard is a local agent, just like me, but he's opted to do something a little different in order to generate interest, leads, and clients. At first I thought it sounded a bit crazy and odd, but the more I read his blog, the more I started to think of the simple genius that his idea really is. For those of you too lazy or

conversation: The Great ActiveRain Interactive Experiment - 12/26/08 09:56 AM
photo courtesy of YuviPanda I wrote recently about commenting on blogs and had an idea this morning. We all love to receive comments and some of us love to read them. After writing the post, I kept thinking about how commenting on ActiveRain and other blogs I read has benefited me and the others who have started interactive conversations in the comments. So the title of this post popped into my head. I had a title, but what was I going to do with it? I needed to use the title, that much I was certain of, but I had

conversation: The Danger of Being Prolific? - 12/17/08 06:32 AM
photo courtesy of Old Shoe Woman Recently I wrote more than normal. Over the course of two days I wrote a little more than normal. In those two days, I commented like mad and wrote 4 posts (2 a day) and even re-blogged one I thought more people should see (with permission of course). I was feeling good about my recent uptick in activity and was even prouder of the content. In all this good feeling (and flurry of commenting), I found true happiness in blogging. I knew I liked it, but the sense of accomplishment I felt over those
