twitter: Tattoo You: What do real estate and tattoos have in common? - 05/13/10 05:48 PM
Tattoos and Real Estate. Two things that don't sound like they have much in common, but based on several late night conversations via Twitter with some of the agents I know, not as mismatched as one might think. Tattooing is an ancient art that has really come into its own over the past decade. I come from a family that has tattooing in its blood - both my father and brother being Marines who have several well worn tattoos between them. Real estate is a passion for me, but so is the art of tattooing. But this post really isn't about

twitter: Why Twitter's One-Click ReTweet Feature Is Absolute Garbage. - 12/03/09 02:13 PM
photo courtesy of BenedictFrancis I'm unhappy with Twitter. Twitter recently introduced a new feature - a one click retweet feature. For those that have been using programs like TweetDeck and Seesmic Desktop, this is nothing new. I've long hoped Twitter would create a one-click feature for retweeting, as I do quite a bit of it on my RErockstar Twitter account. I use retweets to pass on interesting information, follow up on someone's comment, and share real estate news with my fellow agents and San Antonio locals. A few days ago, I tried the retweet feature. I clicked the button and

twitter: ActiveRain Brings The Press To My Door - Keep Blogging And They Will Find You - 12/01/09 09:55 AM
image courtesy of my Twitter account and @LaniAR's tweets ActiveRain helps me get quoted. Late last week I received a call from California. I had no idea what was waiting for me on the other end of the phone. It was Jenna V. Loceff. She explained she was a reporter for the North Bay Business Journal and wanted to speak with me a bit about social media and real estate. In researching her article, Jenna, had a few mentions of Flickr and while googling away, she came across my article, "A stern warning (or lack thereof) - Flickr is watching

twitter: What Do You Get When 166,213 People Take The Day Off? - 11/26/09 10:31 AM
Thanksgiving - a day of rest for most of us. Not many people write loans, shows houses, or close transactions on Thanksgiving Day here in America. I bet there's a few transactions occurring, but overall the real estate world is dead today. There's plenty of us checking our Twitter streams, sending emails, and blogging about Thanksgiving...but overall, the American real estate industry is silent. So what happens when so many people stop going about their normal routines? I'll let this screen shot explain it all: HAPPY THANKSGIVING ACTIVERAIN!

twitter: Quick thought: Disclosure on Twitter - 11/04/09 03:21 PM
image courtesy of Twitter, croncast, and rerockstar I'm not great at quick thoughts. I was having a discussion today with Doug Lazovick, Jeff Turner, and Kris Smith about Kris' (@croncast) useful tool, CMP.ly which I've written about previously, "A quick and easy way to satisfy new FTC disclosure requirements on your blog - CMP.ly" when a thought that had been in the back of my head for some time came to the surface. In the comment above, you can see Kris quotes "http://cmp.ly/4" at the end of his Tweet. This particular disclosure (CMP.ly Disclosure 4), states: Employee/shareholder/business relationship DISCLOSURE

twitter: Deed Street - A new way to make your real estate tweets work for you (and help consumers). - 10/28/09 08:25 PM
Take a walk on Deed Street. I was introduced to Deed Street at Blog World 2009 thanks to Doug Lazovick, the founder and man behind the curtain. During the conference I actually spent quite a bit of time with Doug and got to know him and chat with him about Deed Street. The idea of Deed Street is pretty simple. As you tweet about real estate in your local market, Deed Street pulls those tweets onto its site and lets users search through them in real time as they happen. Say for instance your a consumer in Phoenix, Arizona. You head

twitter: Ambassador Series: Soft Connecting With Consumers - 10/27/09 09:50 AM
image courtesy of Twitter, Gimp, and my own conversation with a local consumer Talking to the consumer...not at them. Recently, I had a conversation with a local about their home that resulted in a post about "For Sale By Owner" homes in San Antonio (and beyond). I was pretty proud of the post as I thought I covered the topic pretty well, but after walking away from the post, I realized something was missing. The person who had inspired the post would probably never read it. Sure, we talk on Twitter, but do they really pay attention to my posts?

twitter: San Antonio Twitter Workshop - Tuesday, October 13th - Everyone's Welcome! - 10/02/09 11:38 AM
Gulp. So it appears that I will be appearing at this workshop to pass on some of my thoughts on Twitter. Yikes! This series of workshops/classes that RE/MAX Access has been doing have been a great success and I'm proud to be a) a part of the office, and b) part of this particular workshop. I hope to see a lot of new faces and have some fun. Bring your questions and we'll do our best to answer them. Don't forget your laptop! Things are best when learned hands on. twitter: I Need Your Help. Your Reward? Great Blogs With Great Info. REBlogworld/Blogworld Expo In Las Vegas! - 09/27/09 12:23 PM
photo courtesy of nodomain1 I love blogging. You may have noticed before, but it's a fact, I love to blog about real estate. It's good for my business, but I actually find it enjoyable too. In that vein, I would like to make it to this year's Blogworld and New Media Expo (including REBlogworld). Of course, these things cost money and there are expenses...blah blah blah. However, Alltop is sponsoring a contest to allow 3 lucky winners to attend this year's event. I entered, but I need your help. First of all, I misread a rule, which has seriously put

twitter: Brasserie Pavil - Twitter Specials All Day Long - San Antonio, Texas - 08/06/09 10:44 AM
Brasserie Pavil in San Antonio, Texas Everyone loves French Fries. Brasserie Pavil is so French, they even call them Frites. San Antonio's first true French-style Brasserie is taking over Twitter. Ask any social media user in San Antonio for a list of the hottest spots for food and drink and you'll hear the name Brasserie Pavil at the top of the list. I was introduced to the restaurant through the social circles of Twitter and loved what they were doing long before I entered their building. Brasserie Pavil tweets daily specials, what's fresh today (especially with their oysters and fish), and

twitter: Local San Antonio Businesses Effectively Using Twitter. - 06/23/09 03:26 PM
photo courtesy of Brasserie Pavil Twitter can be used for good or evil. Which do you choose? Ok, maybe not good and evil, but it can be used effectively or haphazardly. In light of my last post, "Re-defining ROI in the age of social media.," I've been thinking a lot about effective uses of social media and more specifically, Twitter. There's a consistent debate on how to manage it successfully for your business (no matter what business that may be) and I don't think there's anyone that can put a formula to it and give you the skeleton key to

twitter: Re-defining ROI in the age of social media. - 06/20/09 06:27 PM
1910-1920 photo of the Investment Building in Washington, D.C. courtesy of NCinDC What's the return on your investments? After attending, the SABOR Town Hall Meeting and listening to Sean Wood and Rich Teplitsky of KGBTexas speak on the topic of social media, I've been doing a lot of thinking about some of the things I noticed while I was there as well as some of the snippets of conversation that my ears overheard from other people's small groups as they were gathering and getting ready to go. Some of the audience was there to get an idea of what social

twitter: Twitter, Social Media, Town Hall Meeting, and ActiveRain Members. What A Day! - 06/18/09 03:18 PM
I'm in a great mood today. I attended the San Antonio Board Of Realtors® Town Hall meeting today for a special presentation on social media. I was excited to see so many agents there. I hope they all took something out of it and will join those of us already out and about in the social media world. The video will explain why I'm so excited, but I hate to just throw a video up without any text. People from Twitter I met face to face today: epodcaster (Jennifer Navarrete - Champion of All Things Social Media in San Antonio)

twitter: New to Twitter? A great resource for those in the dark. - 03/03/09 07:49 PM
image courtesy of @nik_nik I usually see at least one post a week on ActiveRain about Twitter. It seems that Twitter is getting hotter and hotter in real estate circles. Just today, an agent in my office was signing up and beginning his foray into Twitter. He's an experienced agent who I rely on for all sorts of things, so I was excited to help him out. Those of us that use Twitter know it can be powerful stuff (and a lot of fun), those that don't often ask, "Well...what exactly is it?" I remember when @LaniAR introduced me to

twitter: Using Twitter To Your Advantage When Writing Blogs - 02/26/09 04:58 PM
photo courtesy of EraPhernaliaVintage We all have heard about Twitter's usefulness in building local relationships for business, but what about for blogging? The other day, I was driving through a neighborhood near my house (Village In The Woods, between Mainland Rd. and Guilbeau Rd.) and I noticed something strange. There on the corner of Olde Village and Mainland road sat a bunch of construction vehicles, a camera crew, and Councilman Justin Rodriguez. Of course, I passed by it kind of quickly, so I wasn't 100% sure I had just seen the District 7 Councilman, but I was pretty sure it

twitter: Twitter Phishing Twalert - 01/04/09 06:04 PM
I know I keep re-blogging things, but I keep finding things that deserve attention. I'd mark this one as VERY important as I know a lot of people are still making their way through social media, internet, etc. I have been around phishing scams for a long time, so I know what I'm looking for and even then, I've been fooled before (luckily it wasn't a bank phishing scam). Watch yourselves out there, it can be easy to throw your username and password into a site like this without even thinking and next thing you know you're tweeting about the
