oakland beach: Oakland Beach Festival this Sunday! - 08/06/10 12:36 PM

I would like to take a moment to remind everyone that this Sunday, August 8th is the Annual Oakland Beach Festival!
I have heard a rumor that Mother Goose is going to make an appearance so you might want to make sure your children are there!
Sponsored by the Oakland Beach Association and JONAH (Join our Neighborhood and Help), this festival has been a Rhode Island tradition now for 27 years!
Of course there will be Food and crafts for sale, and Warwick Beacon is saying that raffles, a disc jockey, with a performance by the Aldrich cheerleaders and a karate … (8 comments)

Oakland Beach Warwick Rhode Island
This is the first in a series that I promised to do on all the little villages in Warwick, Rhode Island
I am going to start with Oakland Beach.
First, Oakland Beach has one of the lowest elevations in Rhode Island.
Because of this, it was almost wiped out completely during the hurricane of "38.
Oakland Beach used to be a great amusement park up until then.
40-50 years ago, Oakland Beach was the place to go for a summer vacation.
People from Providence and surrounding areas would rent homes there and enjoy the beaches … (12 comments)
