rhode island: Are New Englanders getting too complacent about Hurricanes? - 09/01/10 10:22 AM
I have lived in Rhode Island all my life and have seen many Hurricanes. Mostly I have seen many Hurricanes miss us! A few years ago, we were "watching" my neighbors waterfront home on Labor Day Weekend. As it happened, the National Weather wasn't too sure whether or not Hurricane Eduardo was going to hit us or not, so we figured we better shore up his house since we felt "responsible" for it. We bought plywood and proceeded to spend the Gorgeous weekend putting boards up. The Hurricane missed us. Last year, I don't remember the specifics, either a Hurricane or

rhode island: Conimicut Point, Warwick, Rhode Island - 10/20/07 10:04 PM
Did you know that Conimicut Point used to have a Casino? Or that the Lighthouse was being rowed to by Lighthouse keepers from across the bay at Nyatt Point? Or that people used to take a trolley car from Providence, pass through Conimicut, (or stay there), and then travel on to Rocky Point Park? Or that it was the site of an important Indian meeting? There's probably lots that you do not know about Conimicut Point. If you would like to read some interesting history about it, read Don D'Amatos "Conimicut, A Modern Village" on the city's web site. For me, Conimicut has always been the

rhode island: Tall Ships Newport Rhode Island - 07/03/07 10:32 AM
Sunday the Tall Ships paraded around Prudence Island passing by the Jamestown Bridge. I was lucky enough to have a front row seat on our good friends boat. Starting out on our trip with mimosas for the ride, we set up on the stern with food and drinks, soaking up the sun. Peggy, our hostess, served a muffaretto, which is like an Italian grinder on French bread with a New Orleans dressing. Delicious! We had left a little early to set anchor in a comfortable spot, from which we had a 360 view of the Jamestown Bridge, Jamestown, Prudence Island,

rhode island: What you should know about the Rhode Island Real Estate Market - 01/03/07 07:43 PM
Paul Silver wrote in his article on Active Rain that now is a great time to buy and I agree. This last year has had home buyers holding their breath trying to decide whether to buy now or wait out what was starting to appear to be a possible bubble burst for Rhode Island. Being in the business has helped me watch the home prices very carefully everyday in our local MLS program. As the year went on, the prices started falling, slowly at first, then a little more drastically. Homes began to wilt on the market for longer periods of time. Photo from

rhode island: Foreclosures Cheap Houses!!! - 12/27/06 07:02 PM
The REO fallacy. Are you looking for a great deal in an investment property. Or the quintessential flip? All you have to do is check the foreclosures online and in every paper and arrive at the auction. Yeah right! How many auctions have ended up with a non bank buyer? Okay, well I see them on the market all the time now. They must be cheap, they are bank owned. Nope, the bank wants fair market value, just like any seller of property. Today's market has substantially increased the foreclosure market. Right now this market is just a blur. A lot of

rhode island: Oakland Beach Warwick Rhode Island a beachfront community - 11/03/06 09:46 PM
Photo credit to http://www.rigreenways.com/ Oakland Beach Warwick Rhode Island This is the first in a series that I promised to do on all the little villages in Warwick, Rhode Island I am going to start with Oakland Beach. First, Oakland Beach has one of the lowest elevations in Rhode Island. Because of this, it was almost wiped out completely during the hurricane of "38. Oakland Beach used to be a great amusement park up until then. 40-50 years ago, Oakland Beach was the place to go for a summer vacation. People from Providence and surrounding areas would rent homes there and enjoy the beaches

rhode island: If you want it, I can find it..........!! - 10/12/06 02:11 PM
One my slogans is "If you want it, I can find it" I'm wondering if I should rethink this and add something else, like If you can afford it...... Why is it, that buyers call a Realtor with absolutely no clue to what they can afford or where the money will come from. Why is it that since they haven't worked for over 6 months and their Landlord is throwing them out, they think, "I'm buying my own house"! I am starting to think that we, as Realtors, may promise a bit too much. We say we can find the dream home, help with finding

rhode island: Your States' Alter Symbols - 10/01/06 09:01 AM
This is "Mr. Potato Head", Rhode Island's alter symbol. He is not the symbol of Rhode Island...."Rhode Island Red" a rooster, is our actual symbol. This picture was taken in Bristol, Rhode Island at the Wonderful 4th of July Parade held there each year. Mr. Potato Head comes in all different styles, or dress, I should say. I chose this one because he is Patriotic. Does your State have an "alter" symbol? It would be interesting to see them.

rhode island: A beautiful day in Rhode Island - 09/17/06 01:16 PM
I just wanted to say what a Gorgeous day it is here in the Ocean State! The sun is shining. It is warm and I can hear the boats on the bay while smelling the honeysuckle and the Ocean mixed in together. I can't be blogging on a day like today. But for all you Realtors who have clients looking for a great vacation home in the summer (and spring and fall), this is definitely the place to be. Yes!
