Safety Tips: Home Burglary Prevention - 06/27/10 11:19 PM
The first day of summer a family friend was robbed. They'd only been out of town 1 day, a relative across the street was checking on the home 2 x a day, but it still happened.
The RED ALERT should have been when a group of young men went door to door in the neighborhood asking people if they had alarm systems! (Supposedly they were selling systems and didn't want to bother someone who already had one...)
Sadly, 50 years worth of jewelry, war medals, even a locket with a photo of their dead grandchild were all stolen. Be safe.

I LOVE Loreena's post here.  I just lost a listing to someone who (without even hearing my presentation) chose a different agent "because of the network of a big company." Mr. X and Mr. Y who formed that large company (and died 50 years ago) are not going to be showing the home.
Like Loreena, I've primarily been with smaller, locally owned, independent brokerage firms. My first one wasn't, but the only thing the brokers at that franchise were interested in was their golf game! (I find a LOT of brokers at the big companies are the same way).

It's actually the 100th anniversary of the start of Father's Day. I miss my Daddy, too. It's hard to believe it's been 13 years since he passed away.

Having just reviewed several front photos looking for examples of the right kind of flowers for my new listing, David's post on Marketing 101: Taking a Better Photo was especially appreciated.
This is a useful post with simple, easy to follow tips for anyone to follow. I especially like the A, B, C format. This home looks lovely. Yet I know lots of people would make the mistake of shooting it front on.

What is the power of a branch? To me, an effective branch is one that is instantly recognizable, distinctive from the competition and immediately brings a particular image to mind. So what comes to mind with the word REALTOR®?
I'd like to think it brings to mind someone professional, above-average in savvy, skills and experience and hopefully includes a "SOLD" sign in that real estate lady's hands!

A recent post on points (and the comments generated) provoked my post. I agree with David Saks - Broker (The Real Estate Mart of Tennessee, Inc.): Active Rain Points Nectar From The Rain. Points help us to know how we as professionals are doing within a set system.

I agree with David. Points help us to know how we as professionals are doing within a set system. Of course, points without substance ARE relatively meaningless.
For example, commenting on a blog with a quote that has no relevance to the topic just to generate 20 points for commenting is counter-productive. It also makes colleagues like me wonder why a person would do this.
Why post something irrelevant or random? Also, there ARE quotes that could truly apply, no matter what. "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself," by FDR, for example. Or "The road to success … (3 comments)

In Silicon Valley, all of our cities run into each other. In putting up open house signs, we have to obey all of the (sometimes varying) city ordinances regarding size, placement and how long they can be up.
Has anyone in Santa Clara County (especially San Jose, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Campbell, Palo Alto) found a "one-size fits all" sign solution?
