christmas: Celebrate National Christmas Lights Day Dec. 1 - 12/02/22 01:04 PM
Who else remembers the excitement of piling into the family wagon all bundled up against the cold with a thermos full of hot chocolate to drive around the neighborhood to look at Christmas lights?
My husband Steve and I still enjoy celebrating National Christmas Lights Day all December long, not just on December 1st.
Locally, on NextDoor.com there is a "Cheer Map" where people who decorate their houses post up their addresses with the days and times the lights are on.
There are some houses and neighborhoods we traditionally visit in Campbell, Sunnyvale and West San Jose that also set … (0 comments)

christmas: Free Do-It-Yourself Advent Calendars Online - 12/01/20 03:40 PM
As a child I always loved Christmas and Advent calendars. Advent calendars are a fun way to help educate children about the meaning of the holiday while managing expectations, especially the burning question, "How many more days until Christmas?"
The calendar usually has 24 doors that open up to a picture and sometimes a Bible verse. There's one for each day in December leading up to Christmas Eve on the 24th.
When my brother and I were young, we took turns opening up the little doors. We felt rich when one year we each got our own Advent calendar! Then there was the year … (0 comments)

christmas: Insight from San Jose Dance Theatre's Nutcracker Ballet - 12/15/19 03:59 PM
Who doesn't enjoy a beautiful Christmastime production of the Nutcracker Ballet? Our family's enjoyed this particular group's production of the Nutcracker Ballet at the Center for the  Performing Arts in downtown San Jose for several of the last 54 years. It is the longest running Nutcracker production in San Jose. When I took ballet as a young girl, the ballet school I studied at was the Los Gatos Academy of Dance run by Shawn Stuart and Paul Curtiss (which later became the San Jose Dance Theatre). Everyone was welcome to audition, and even now the auditions are open to students from other schools. … (6 comments)

Happy Birthday Jesus Christ! Thank You for Being Born to Save Us!
by Michelle Carr Crowe
Today we honor the birthday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He came to earth and was born to lowly peasants (not privileged kings) in the form of a vulnerable human baby to save each and every one of us from sin and death.
By accepting the truth of his life, death on a cross in payment for our wrongs, and resurrection and victory over death, a person ensures freedom now and eternal life in heaven forever. This miracle and free gift of salvation is … (6 comments)

I love Jesus and the fact that everyone in God’s family around the world is celebrating His birthday this December 25th.
I enjoy decorating our Christmas tree at home and seeing other people's holiday decorations.
I also love learning new facts and interesting pieces of history, such as these “3 weird Christmas facts you probably don’t know”.
Sometimes I come across intriguing facts while reading our local San Jose Mercury News, Mental Floss or  Smithsonian Magazine. Other times I find articles online at DatesinHistory.com, The … (8 comments)

How Many Hugs a Day Do You Need to Survive, Grow and Thrive?
By Michelle Carr Crowe, REALTOR®
Back in college at San Jose State University, I remember learning people need a minimum of three hugs a day just to survive.
Hugging is good medicine. Best of all giving a hug costs no money, takes only seconds, and returns back at least as much joy and love to you as it does to the person you give a hug to.
Recently I saw on Facebook that Dr. Wayne Dyer posted people now need more hugs:
4 hugs a day to survive

christmas: How To Make A Fabulous Gift Bow Using Wrapping Paper - 12/06/13 11:23 AM

I LOVE this way to recycle wrapping paper (especially those remnants) and make beautiful bows. I remember my mother teaching me how to "curl ribbon" with safety scissors as a young girl and what fun it was to see it transform into something new and beautiful.
I encourage you Agents Moms and Agent Dads (as well as grandparents) to teach the young ones around your home how to do make these beautiful gift bows out of wrapping paper (especially the leftover pieces).
If you would like to make beautiful, original bows for your gifts this year, I've got just the tutorial … (9 comments)

You Can Now Say Merry Christmas in Any Language
By Michelle Carr-Crowe, Silicon Valley, Calif. guide and San Jose real estate agent
My Christmas wish is always the same-Peace on Earth, Good Will to Man. (As the Bible says, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”)
Of course saying Merry Christmas just sounds friendlier when it’s spoken (and heard) in someone’s native tongue. What I truly want to communicate with you and the people I care about by saying Merry Christmas to you are my good wishes for the season to you and people from all of the hundreds of countries of … (1 comments)

Yes You Do Have Room for a Christmas Tree
by Michelle Carr Crowe, Silicon Valley guide selling homes
With the Christmas season upon us, it's fun to decorate. Yet some people fear not having enough room to display a Christmas tree in their homes or offices.

You can see my simple solution. I installed this Christmas tree in my office in a matter of five minutes, and I'll be able to take it down and reuse it again next year just as quickly.
It's not the same as a real tree but it still makes me happy to have a … (8 comments)

christmas: Are You Sharing Your Best? - 12/11/12 02:51 PM
Are You Sharing Your Best?
During this Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s season, I, like you, feel and want to share the love and warmth of the holidays with people I know and those I’ve yet-to-meet. This little story shared with me from my By Referral Only reminds me of how much more loudly our actions speak than words, and how love is the loudest action of all.
A farmer’s superior corn won awards at the state fair year after year. A newspaper reporter who went out to interview him was surprised to discover that the farmer shared his seed corn … (7 comments)

Christmas Tree Decorating Secrets Made Easy with Cats
by Michelle Carr Crowe, Silicon Valley guide and San Jose home selling expert
This is the most hilarious true photo of a cat and a Christmas tree I've ever seen.
My friend Brenda Schillaci says it best here, "I don't need garlands, I just need more cats."

This so reminds me of when my daughters' kittens were young and their first Christmas trying to climb the Christmas tree, too. Brenda's kitty looks very much like my sweet Monique's late kitty King John Elvis Presley.
Can't you just picture a Christmas treeful of … (8 comments)
